Star Fox 64 3D is a remake of the Nintendo 64 Classic Star Fox 64. Interestingly, the game was released under the title Star Fox 64 3D worldwide, despite the original being released under the title Lylat Wars in Europe and Australia. This version of the game features updated graphics and sound, incuding completely re-recorded voicework and a re-arranged musical score. There are also available motion controls and a completely revamped WLAN multiplayer designed to leverage the 3DS's features.
Star Fox 64 is an arcade-style space shooter. Again player controls the Arwing of Fox McCloud, but also a tank, the Landmaster, and a submarine, the Blue Marine. Again the game is based on power-ups for lasers and bombs as well as the ability to increase the power of the shield to take more hits. The barrel roll and wing damage also return. The main difference is the introduction of "all range mode," a hold-over from Star Fox 2's free flight. In this mode, the player can fly in any direction confined with a predefined boundary. Approaching this boundary will cause the player's ship to automatically be turned around.
Once again, difficulty is controlled by the choice of route, though this time there are many more choices, including warps. Each route has its own set of missions and boss battles.
Dr. Andross, a former research scientist, is exiled to the barren planet Venom for conducting dangerous experiments. While in exile, Andross builds an army. This does not go unnoticed, and General Pepper of the Cornerian Defence Force sends the Star Fox team, James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar, to investigate the matter. Pigma, however, was secretly working for Andross and betrayed his teammates leading to their capture. Only Peppy would escape alive.
Andross' forces continue to grow until he declares war. His forces advanced quickly, and General Pepper calles upon a new Star Fox team, led by James' son, Fox McCloud with teammates Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad.
The main difference between this game and the original is the multiplayer. The original multiplayer mode was entirely scrapped in favor of this new mode that offers differnt match types as well as the ability to use the rear-facing camera on the 3DS to watch your opponents' facial expressions throughout the battle.
