  • Pestering kills Kamiya's interest in Star Fox.

    • Teaser Paragraph:

It's no secret in the fanbase that Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games, which recently released The Wonderful 101 on Wii U, has had a desire to work with Star Fox.

Well, he did. Unfortunately, people didn't leave him alone about it. Frustrated with people asking about it, he told Polygon "I've been known for saying I want to work on Star Fox but the tendency for this to spread and people constantly pestering me with questions, like 'How would you do this? How would you do that?' ... Quite frankly, I've decided I don't want to work on Star Fox anymore."

This isn't all bad news, though. Firstly, there never seemed to actually be a Star Fox project at Platinum games, and secondly, even though he may have been turned-off of it, there are plenty of people who want to see Star Fox again, and that gives me hope that a new game will come some day.

As long as fans exist for Star Fox, which we most certainly still do, then I believe that eventually another game will come. Just look at Arrested Development: fans had to wait seven years before it was eventually rescued by Netflix.
So keep your hopes up, soon enough Fox and the team will be back in business.

Well damn. Why do game companies do this? Capcom with Mega Man, Activision with Crash Bandicoot and now Nintendo with Starfox as well as a bunch of another franchises. Apparently nintendo isn't above this now I'm really starting to get depressed. My favorite games are either getting over used or under used and I want it to stop! I want to make my own game company one day and if that happens and starfox is still being neglected (hopefully not) I'm pulling off a Mighty No 9 with Starfox.

I would love to work on a Star Fox game for Nintendo if they would had made a next gen console and not some current one with a tablet as your controller. Yup Nintendo you are just depressing me.. One of your 90's retro fans.. Clearly they don't care about us.. Just the gaming market towards kids and families. We are inrelevant in their eyes..

Well, I wouldn't say that the state of Star Fox is as bad as Mega Man. Shigeru Miyamoto has stated that if there's any franchise at all he'd like to see on Wii U, it's Star Fox specifically.

Mega Man fell into the abyss after its creator left. Let's just thank our lucky stars most of Star Fox's original creators are still with Nintendo.

I think you're a bit uninformed. It's not like Keiji Inafune wanted to leave Megaman. I think it had to deal with different matters with the company. I believe Capcom has a personal grudge against Keiji-San, and cancelled all of the 4 Megaman games that were supposed to come out (Including Megman Legends 3, which they specifically promised to release the demo) in order just spite him. Megaman is still going strong especially in the creator's heart and us fans. Otherwise, Keiji wouldn't have responded to his fans (making Mighty No. 9) if he didn't love Megaman. So be entirely sure to check what really happened before making statements like that. There's definitely something fishy going on happening with Capcom. And I'm glad they're dying.

Strange. I'd like to think such high profile people wouldn't give much thought/take much input from regular day-to-day fans. This is stunning.

I wonder what kind of "advice" he received from dedicated fans... heck. Probably stuff about Command/Krystal/multiple endings. That must have been a laugh and a hat to hear again and again.

I wouldn't want Nintendo to outsource the franchise to another third party company again anyway. A new game needs to be developed by at least Retro Studios if not Nintendo EAD themselves.
