Why do you think Pigma betrayed James and Peppy?

Just a random thought while listening to the opening prologue of Star Fox 64.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was because of money, after all, when you shoot him down on Fortuna, he does say "My beautiful reward! *cries*" which makes me think he's just a greedy old hog.

What are your thoughts on this, fandom?

no really it was bacon

andross was all "if you betray star fox i'll give you this stuff which is really tasty"

so pigma did and he went to venom and he's all "yo andross where's that tasty shit hook me up bro"

and andross did and pigma experienced a new height of culinary joy the likes of which he never could have imagined

and, with grease dripping from his chin and bacon crumbs scattered around his mouth, he asked, "what is this heavenly substance"

and andross smiled and said, "it's you"

pigma was distraught, because he was a pig, and yet he had eaten bacon and discovered it to be the most delicious of all foods. he returned to his fellow pigs and cried out, "MY PEOPLE! I HAVE SEEN THE SECRET OF THE UNIVERSE! IT IS THAT WE ARE DELICIOUS!"

but the other pigs did not want to hear that, and they cast him out in shame and disgrace

and in his darkest hour, andross once again appeared to pigma, and said, "pigma, if you follow me as my loyal soldier, then i will supply you with bacon for the rest of your days"

and pigma looked up with tearful eyes and in a quavering, reverent voice, he said, "my emperor, i will follow you to the end of creation"

and he did THE END like this if you cried every time

I have to agree with Scourge, It does seem like he'd be in it for a heavy paycheck. XD

It's pretty evident throughout the Sequels he's a greedy swine, and even In SF64 when shot down he cries about his 'Reward'. So I wouldn't be surprised If he was bribed by andross or a subject of his to do the dirty deed.

Despite all it's flaws, I think the canon covers this quite nicely. Pigma is shown repeatedly to care of nothing but his own wealth and power. Pigma does what Pigma does for Pigma and only for Pigma.

If the game's heavy implication isn't enough, other materials have outright said so.

That seems understandable, Pigma is a pretty greedy hog.

Maybe he got tired of living in James's shadow. I've always thought that Peppy and Pigma must've been pretty amazing pilots to be part of the original Star Fox Team...and that meant Pigma must've been good as well. I suppose someone as good-natured and too nice for his own good like Peppy would never complain about taking the backseat to James.

But Pigma seems a little more materialistic susceptible to harsher feelings. He's infatuated with money, which could easily be an outlet for his sense of underachievement and jealousy than just straight-up greed. He probably harbors a great deal of disdain for James, perhaps an extreme version of the mild contempt Falco shows towards Fox in the Farewell, Beloved comic. Such an aggressive form of envy and loathing would also explain why he's so quick to voice such spite about James in the heat of combat: Too bad Dad's not here to see you FAIL! or Daddy screamed REAL good before he DIED.

Hell, he might mock Peppy for remaining on the Team, what with his hopeless dedication and loyalty causing him to remain clinging to it long after James had died and Pigma had left.

But that's just what I think. He might just be a greedy douchebag...I dunno.

I believe it was a canon fact that Pigma betrayed James and Peppy for money.

Please don't bump old threads. Especially if you're just going to repeat what was said back then.
