Sigs

I've noticed a trend as of late regarding signatures.

Many of you have sigs that are above the image total height specified in the rules and there are a lot of flashy GIFs in sigs now.

Please remember that post content is what is important, not your GIF of dancing hamsters at a rave or large picture of a My Little Pony eating an apple.

I fully admit that we haven't really been enforcing the sig policy lately, so some of you have had technically illegal sigs for a while now. I have asked to staff to step-up enforcement in this area, so please check your sigs and make the necessary changes.

For reference, here is the sig policy:

1. Signatures must abide by the main posting rules.

2. Please keep the image sizes reasonable. Total height of all images shall be no taller than 200 pixels. Total width of all images shall be no wider than 800 pixels.

3. Signatures have a 300 character limit (including bbcode tags) enforced by the forum software.

4. You may not use any form of script in your signature, server-side or otherwise. This is for security reasons.

5. You may not have more than one animated GIF in your sig, and it may not be distracting to people reading posts.

6. If a staff member tells you to change your signature, please do so. Refusal will result in an admin removing your signature.

EDIT: Clarified size rule both here and on rules page.

Also, don't say 200px is too short. It isn't. My sig is 512px x 200px and it is plenty large even on 1920 x 1080 resolution. The rules give you 160,000 pixels of image space. You can fit a lot in there. Hell, back in the day when 800 x 600 was common that would fill the content area of a web browser.

Also: You know my sig is just too perfect!

It would be nice if your sig could auto shrink instead of having to shrink it manually or finding a small enough picture.
