I use both, depends on how formal I think I should be. Doughnut just comes off so much more formal don't you think?

Also Krispy Kreme says I should use doughnut and I wouldn't want to offend those people lest they refuse to sell me donuts. I mean doughnuts. I wrote donut out of habit.

Yum.

I was having this conversation with some friends a few days ago. We were deciding between, donut, dounut, and doughnut. I do the same thing as Sarita. Donut for standard use and doughnut to be a little more formal.

I use "donut." Dunkin' Donuts is one of the more popular chains around here [as opposed to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts], so that could explain the preference.

I use Doughnut. Always have, always will. Same thing with grey instead of gray and colour instead of color.

Doughnut in the context of baked goods.

Donut in the context of autosports, e.g. doing donuts in the buffalo wild wings parking lot.

Donut in the context of shape.

Monokuma's idea here.

Is this seriously worth making a poll over?

Yep. That's why I stay away from making threads, or participating in certain areas here. Thank you, Gestalt, for risking a tiny piece of your life (and reputation, perhaps). But 'donut' just seems so easy to spell and use, though...

You have me three kinds of wrong. Besides, I count an 8:1 useful to useless post ratio, we are doing great.

Doughnut. I always assumed that would be how it was spelled ever since I learned the word "dough".

It fits into the pronunciation better, and fits within the context of what doughnuts are made of as well.

Although I'm very big on proper spelling, I say "donut" because it's more like a new word. They're made of dough, yes, but they've always been spelled as "donut" and therefore I see that as a new name.

I say donut but I'm no English major.

Doughnut seems like an old fashioned way to spell it, like liquorice.

Dammit guys now I want donuts

Dammit guys now I want donuts

oh, oh: wanna, literally, run to the donut shop, cram a bunch in our faces, and see who can make it back first-- in an all out sprint?

sorry, high school memories.
