So there's going to be a movie where Adam Sandler fights video games

Rather, Adam Sandler, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and Tyrion Lannister fight video games

I can't believe this

this is literally just one of those jokey "gritty reboot" fake fan trailer things only it's actually real and starring actors

You know Sandler and Hart need dope money when they're making an animation movie ... again.

I did like Hotel Transylvania tho'.

I do like Pacman.

This looks so beautifully campy that it might just turn out to be a decent film.  Only time will tell, but I would like to harbor some cautious optimism.

Also, you get brownie points for the title of this thread. :-P

I'm.....I'm not sure what to expect. On one hand, Adam Sandler, on the other hand, real-life Pac Man destroying a city while being chased by product placement Ghost-cars (although maybe missed opportunity?). At least they got the real name of Pac-Man's creator, instead of just saying Miyamoto or coming up with some fake Japanesey-sounding name.

Definitely confuzzled.

Why the hell is everyone so focused on Adam Sandler

When Peter Dinklage is there too

Come on people. He's a midget. Midgets are funny. Therefore this movie = funny. It's just basic math.

But Adam Sandler = not funny, so it cancels out.

Hollywood making yet another movie 'based on video games'? Can't wait to see how out of touch they are with vidya yet again.

Especially with Sandler being a part of this

yeah hollywood is probably going to ruin pac-man's rich characterization and lore with this one :/

Pacman lore? Is that even a thing? I thought he just ran around eating pellets and dodging ghosts.

Not even, because it isn't adapting anything. If you actually read the plot summary it isn't even a "video game movie", the entire premise is that shapeshifting aliens misinterpreted "feeds of classic arcade games" (what) as declarations of war and attack earth in the form of those characters. It's literally just an excuse to have a giant alien Pac-Man munching his way through a city, and it 100% knows it's going to be gloriously stupid.

So did Pacific Rim and it was awesome! So will this movie despite Adam Sandlers!

yeah like I honestly kind of want to see this just because it looks so damn goofy and fun. it's the kind of movie the internet would invent as a joke that then became real

Regardless of whether this movie turns out to be good or bad, I would love to hear the story of how this idea was thought up in the first place. I went ahead and decided to look up the people involved in the film and I found a couple of interesting tidbits.

Story by: Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler. Oh boy...something tells me Sandler's going to add his special touch to the film and ruin anything good Herlihy may offer.

Now the good news. Director: Chris Columbus. I honestly had to check if that was a joke.

According to Wikipedia this is the guy who is known "for directing such movies as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)"

Now I'm optimistic again somehow.

Missed out on some details there:

While Sandler is listed under the "writers", there is no clarification as to what his role on the writing team actually was. He has neither a screenplay nor story credit. He's just kind of listed there. Don't expect a major influence there.

Tim Herlihy is the one you want to be paying attention to, as he's the guy responsible for a handful of the few not-shitty Adam Sandler movies out there, like Happy Gilmore.

Agreed.  The funniest part of the trailer was when it stopped taking itself seriously at the end.
