Solid gameplay (for the most part)

Splendid graphics

Pretty good voice acting

Excellent Music

A pretty good story (it's very much written like an anime, which I like in particular)

Lengthy missions

Good multiplayer (if you have people to play with)

Dislikes:

REALLY short (my biggest complaint)

Strafing isn't all that useful, and wasn't implemented very well

Not enough Arwing action

Team mates are basically retarded. No, really. Just play it and see for yourself. They're completely helpless and actually rely on you to save them when you're on foot when there's already someone else flying around as well. Plus, somersaulting is apparently rocket science to them.

Again, there really isn't enough missions. There should have been at least five more.

I agree..I was really happy when I first got Assault but I think I finished it in less than 5 horus on the hardest mode of play. I had intended it to be somthing like SF64 on steroids, but u couldn't even choose ur path on this game that was the major downfall for me. These are some of the other faults I think it had:

  • The Arwing was to slow (on multiplayer u could run on foot right beside the guy in the air)
  • The objectives where like playing target practice over and over and over
  • At times ur so called "help" was just standing there in the corner doing nothing
  • Only a few of the Bosses where acually original

...other than that I kinda enjoyed the story and liked the cutscenes (made me feel like I was watching an SF movie  ).

On the plus side, Falco was less bitchy and kind of a friend... :falco:

Physics pretty much nonexistent

Aparoids had a really unimaginative design

I loved the game. Its my 3rd favorite SF game (if you consider Lylatwars and SF643D as 2 different games) and one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. I personally didn't find any flaws in the game, except that it was too short.

Just hold L or R and you strafe just fine.

If you're talking about the roll you do when you first press it, then ohohohoho, you have yet to master the art of Homing Launcher dodging, as you can dodge every shot every time once you're able to roll correctly.

It was graphically pleasant, but gameplay-wise, so slooooooow. I mean, ok, anti-grav G-Diffuser stuff, but hell, we're talking about aircrafts, some speed please! You could nearly stop, in mid-air!

Fundamentally, the game was irritating in the way that it knew how to let you glance at epic awesomeness (like the first mission) and then... bleh! Video footages of on-foot missions/MP looked fun, but when you actually got to it... bleh!

Too short of course, and with highly approximative storyline and weird-behaving characters (Fox turning mellow, and Wolf not being much better...).

BUT:

+ Epic Peppy!

+ Arwing-only multiplayer levels were excellent

+ An excellent soundtrack \o/

+ Epic first mission!

+ Graphically good

(Are we gonna have all the love/hate threads all over again because of the ¢¢? :troll:)

Well, I actually meant with enemies that you have to use the R button to aim at. It doesn't always work. Plus, I wish Fox could kind of run around the enemies similar to how Mega Man works in the Legends series.

- Extremely fun

- Was the perfect blend of on-foot and in-Arwing action

- Story was pretty awesome

- Great VA

- Missions were nice and long

- Great graphics

- Too short

- Could've used a bit of polish

- Inclusion of ground missions

- Multiplayer (Dear lord if that had had online it would have been AWESOME)

- Good graphics

- All range mode Landmaster

- Variety of weapons

- You can fly the Wolfen in multiplayer

- Awesome music

Dislikes:

- Too short

- Aparoids were a cheap rip off of the Borg

- Grenades were pretty much worthless

- Turning Fox around was tedious

- Wingmen were once again useless

- Too few classic on rails levels

I liked the vehicle models, but the character models fail in comparison to Adventures'. I liked being able to see each hair on the bodies and there was a lot more facial expression rather than just the mouth moving up and down like some robot (okay, so ROB64 is an exception).

The art department outdid themselves

The arwing looked amazing

Inclusion of rails missions into the series again

more character development

Greatfox looked AMAZING

actually entertaining multiplayer

If done properly, you could actually wing ride in multiplayer

THE WOLFEN LOOKED AMAZING

The soundtrack *moan*

Dislikes-

The arwing was too slow, you had to use boost constantly to actually get anywhere

Try turining a full 360 on foot, it'll take you a good 30 seconds

The coding team outdid themselves

The aparoids seemed pulled out of bloody nowhere

Useless teammates

THEY BROKE, GREATFOX

Everyone's outfits seemed like they were stolen from a Mass Effect artbook and then made a little worse

Ill come back and add more complaints as I think of them.

I wish they offered some explanation as to why Starwolf was still alive in this game and Andross was not...

Um......He blew up in Adventures remember?

Well Star Wolv "blew up" in SF64.

Andross blew up in SF 64 and Adventures, yet why would he be really dead jsut from being blown up in adventures? Why should that be the death that actually killed him?

Hm... my turn!

Likes:

A nice division between Arwing and on-foot missions.

Interesting enemies - something about the Aparoids really tickled my fancy.

Wonderful, streamlined designs for the Arwings/Greatfox/Landmaster.

Beautiful and emotional cutscenes. Great humor, albeit a little cheesy.

Insanely addictive multiplayer with tons of weapons, huge maps and vehicles to choose from.

Powerful orchestral soundtrack.

Dislikes:

Aparoids could have used a little more development, which could have subsequently added to the length of the game. 10 missions just isn't long enough.

In-game graphics seemed unpolished, with texture glitches here and there.

Unbalanced character multiplayer stats (Wolf. I mean, seriously?).

Inability to replay cutscenes.

I enjoyed this game, but my biggest gripe is the length. I know Nintendo have been churning out a lot of remakes lately but I'd love to see this remade with co-op missions and online multiplayer. Similar to Halo, perhaps. I've always thought Assault's multiplayer is a bit like a premature version of Halo's.

I wish they offered some explanation as to why Starwolf was still alive in this game and Andross was not...

Just because you got shot down dosent mean your dead, plus, they may've been disturbingly injured in the crashes, but this is also a futuristic society-ish type thing so they could've either A, undergone surgery, or B, been revived. A good explination for this I believe was mentioned in one of Kit-Karamak's fanfictions.

Another Dislike: Starwolf especially Pigma and Leon. I kind of liked Pigma as a New yorker from the 20s, rather than just a slobbering pig. Also, neither Peppy nor Fox seeme particularly angry or vengeful at him.

I also liked Leon better as an elegent assassin rather than the spaz he was in Assault. He just seemed scarier in N64.

I disliked the pacing and speed of the Arwings. The whole flight experience seems very slow and peaceful, more like a sunday drive than a real dogfight. Correct me if wrong, but from what I have seen, its rare that you or your teammates are ever in real danger. Also, Peppy shouldnt have been made to give up his arwing. He is only late 50 early 60s.

I kinda liked Wolf though and some of the cutscenes

It had really good ending credits music, as well as other fantastic pieces in the soundtrack.

Dislikes:

it was a pretty shit game in almost every respect, with the exception perhaps of the first, last and meteo level, especially when compared with other games that had similar content and gameplay at the time.

Actually, I think Assault in my overall favorite in the series thus far, though I haven't given much time to Adventures or the SNES game(s). Anyway;

Likes;

-Visuals are incredible for the Gamecube. Characters, machines, the scenery, everything is wonderful sci-fi eye-candy that I just devour.

-Soundtrack. Epic orchestral for the main game, jumpy, techy, and fun for the multi-player.

-The Arwing.

-Gameplay variety.

-The cheesy sci-fi storyline. Guilty pleasure, yes, plot-holes and all.

-Slippy's voice actor. If he has to have a high and screechy voice, this guy needs to continue to do it. He pulls it off without being either feminine or annoying.

Dislikes;

-Length! If only we had a few more missions!

-Lack of playable Leon and Panther in multi-player.

-Non-emotive cut-scenes in the English version.

-The fact that an on-foot ally essentially means they serve zero purpose. At least in an Arwing they can actually hit stuff when they shoot.

-Characters move at one speed when they run on foot. It takes getting used to.

-The Arwing feels good. The Landmaster doesn't. I shudder at what the Bluemarine would've felt like if Aquas were a real level!
