Recommended Posts

Hey there SF fans I have some interesting political news for you. Since the 3rd major 2-Party debate is over last night there's going to be a Third Party debate going on tonight! I don't know if any of you are aware of other party candidates but they are:

Gary Johnson - Libertarian Party

Jill Stein - Green Party

Virgil Goode - Constitution Party

Rocky Anderson - Justice Party

I have the links below. Here's a short clip that summarizes it all:

Here is the link from Free&Equal if you don't have cable or satellite if you are interested in watching the third party debate online. It airs tonight 8pm CST.

it's the one you settle on when you went to one party, it was boring so you bailed, you went to another party, and it was also boring and you bailed, but you don't want to just spend the night cruising for parties, you want to actually bust it out, so you just settle on the third one you reach

The fact that any of these people exist is news to me; a shame you have to have millions to even be recognized during campaigning by the public.

In general, the nature of two-party rule is to exclude the possibility for third parties to aspire to political relevance and power. This sad state of affairs can largely be traced from the way political victory is gained from votes in America, which follows a 'first past the post' or FPP system of counting votes towards victory. The core characteristic of FPP is that the party or person with the most votes wins executive office to the exclusion of other parties and candidates. I'm no political scientist so I'll turn to some enlightening simple-simon explanations through this series of youtube videos, the episode in question of which explains what I'm trying to get at much better than I ever could:

I have the third party debate video if you guys are still interested in watching the whole clip.

After watching it live on C-SPAN I thought it was good. All of the third party candidates were injecting real issues compared to Mitt & Obama.

Who Won The 3rd Party Presidential Debate?! from Matlarson10

Before you watch his commentary try to watch the third party debate!

Whats so sad about third parties is that it costs lots of money just to be on state ballots, mainstream media outlets, and campaign travels. We know for sure that the main two party system are heavily funded by Super PACs, lobbyists, and better yet Wall Street. Link for that: http://www.opensecre...2/index.php?ql3

I do appreciate all (especially Ajc ;)) of your inputs on third party candidates. And there's going to be a third party debate again next week on Tuesday, Oct 30th. I think it's going to be on C-SPAN1 again.
