Vy'drach
I am very skeptical since it is being done by EA and DICE. I have lost all faith in those two due to Battlefield 3 and what they've shown of Battlefield 4. Sorry to say, but I expect this game to be a bigger disappointment than Duke Nukem Forever. I hope I am wrong, but my hype for this is practically nonexistant.

Arashikage
Star Wars Battlefield 3. That's what it's going to be. I'm not looking forward to this trainwreck. It's going to be DRM infested first off. EA will freak out about piracy and make it harder for the legitimate buyers to actually access their goddamn game when they buy it(SimCity anyone?). It'll be 60 bucks probably with Day 1 DLC not included in the price. Because of EA it will also have packs that you need to buy separately and a BattleFront III Platinum Edition for an extra 40 dollars about two months in. You won't get half the planets the Platinum users get, you won't get any of the armors they get, the weapon customizations, you won't get shit for vehicles, and you probably won't get to find many servers if you're not Platinum. Say goodbye to hosting a multiplayer game on the PC edition, because EA wants you to buy servers from their providers. You'll have to pay 15 dollars a month to rent a server if you want to play with some friends under your own terms. They might just remove the AI in the game and instead go with players only like the new Battlefield games. In short, I'm not excited for it. Call me skeptical, call me a cynic, call me a killjoy, but I want to bring some things to light. How excited were you guys when SimCity was announced? Hm? How about Mass Effect 3? How did that turn out? I always take any EA game being released with a grain of salt. So no, I'm not waiting with baited breath, I'm not excited. Apathetic. That's what I'd call myself.

Icy
I have 100% faith in this game, DICE, EA, and everything they touch from here on out. Love them, never had a reason to hate them, never been disappointed.. Battlefront will indeed live again in the glorious Frostbite 3 engine. Battlefield 4 is looking to be the best in the series to date. Mirror's Edge 2 is going to be phenomenal. This year cannot get any better, but it will in 8 hours with Nintendo's Direct. All the skeptics and haters can keep doing what they want, but my goodness... For me, at least, I can't help but say this: What a great time to be a gamer, and no one knows what secrets tomorrow's Direct holds.

StarFoxfan-FUR_ever
I think Purple hit the nail on the head with this one Dunno if I'll be hyped for this but I will say something... I hate modern games that have the same title as their classic game With that aside, I hope it doesn't turn into this... Granted the gameplay video Rebel posted looks good, almost good enough to convince me the product is complete and just about finalized as I type. The way I see it however, it seems to be a graphically improved (and I suppose also faster paced) version of Star Wars Shadows of the Empire. I would wait before jumping to buy this game when it comes out just to see what people find wrong with it.
Arashikage
I'm probably going to wait on this one a few weeks after it comes out to see how bad the backlash is. If it's not bad I'll consider buying it, but if it turns into ANYTHING like Battlefield besides the most basic of features they already shared in common, I will be cursing the name of DICE and EA forever. Oh wait. I already do that anyway. DICE used to be cool, their name used to mean something. Wayyyyyyy back in the days of Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 2. I enjoyed those games thoroughly, there was no story, the story was whatever you wanted it to be. Re-enact historical battles, or play completely different battles. There were at least 60 players per team with AI, the maps were huge, the vehicles were expansive and amazing. Now what do we have? Battlefield 3, but WAIT, you don't have all the maps, you need expansions A B and C to get these maps, and X Y and Z to get the rest of them, BUT you can go PREMIUM for 30 goddamn dollars to unlock all the maps that we SHOULD be giving you for free! Aren't we generous!? Oh and you only have two large maps that are worth anything without premium, none of the other maps have planes, only half of them have vehicles, and the ones without the tanks and planes are too small for larger teams. The same old maps get boring after barely ten rounds, even when you rotate teams. What about the upgrades? In 1942, there were no weapon upgrades. You didn't need to be a certain level to have all the cool stuff. You didn't even have a level. Everything was unlocked from the start. Want a Tommygun? There's your Tommygun. How about a Springfield? There's your goddamn Springfield. Adding an unlock feature makes people want to play more, but not when they have an M16, and the other guy is destroying you with his supercharged SCAR H with thermal scope, bipod, flashlight, laser sight, grenade launcher, forward handgrip, toaster, butterknife, tanning bed, taser, and game console that he got spending 300 hours playing Battlefield nonstop to get to Colonel rank. This is one of the reasons a lot of MMO games have different servers for a certain range of levels. But it could all be avoided by starting everyone off at level 1 at the start of a new game, and making the new weapons easy to unlock. They just don't to that though. I don't want these features in Battlefront 3. I don't want to see you have to get to a certain level to unlock a new blaster, I don't want any liberties taken either to add things that don't exist in the universe to the blasters, or to add new blasters that don't exist in the universe. I don't want to have to pay MORE freaking money to unlock more maps, I don't want Day 1 DLC. Basically, I don't want DICE to screw this up. DICE, where did you go wrong? I'm not impressed with your shitty bullet drop physics and "OMG WOW" lensflare, I want a good GAME. Don't get me wrong, Battlefield 3 is fun for a certain amount of time, but it's no 1942. I don't want to be right about my predictions, hell, I want to be proven wrong. I will GLADLY eat my words with a fork and spoon if this game is what everyone's expecting. But the proof is in the pudding, and until I actually see some evidence, some servers with players, PRICES even, I will not be swayed. These leaked videos do good to show off the graphics, some of the basic gameplay, and the weapons and vehicles, but it doesn't show whether or not the servers will be up full time, or if there's extra expansions, or if the game is going to have a story mode, or anything of the sort. TL:DR - I don't want DICE screwing up my childhood.
Vy'drach
Oh god no, it's worse than I thought. It looks like a cheap Battlefield 3 reskin so far. And even if the effects improve it's still going to have that horrible, rage inducing gameplay that was nearly responsible for several brain aneurysms. Also, this gif seems appropriate. Snys93
Well it can't be that bad considering that a certain "fruit rollup" is out of the way. I really don't understand why the Expanded Universe isn't canon but Jar Jar Binks is. The EU is the reason we bought all those comic books, novels, video games and action figures and not a trilogy that represents a failure to listen to the fans. Seriously, what does that tell you when the 501st Legion's backstory was better written than the Prequels? This game has to be good. For the sake of Star Wars, it has to be. And even if the effects improve it's still going to have that horrible, rage inducing gameplay that was nearly responsible for several brain aneurysms. That gameplay posted above is NOT from the DICE game. It honestly can't be. That's not Frostbite. It's either from the original Battlefront 3 that got cancelled, or from another Star Wars game entirely before the shutting down of LucasArts. It isn't what DICE is working on and you can see that if you're familiar with Frostbite. -- As for Kage's long post: Again, we don't usually disagree but I completely do. Long, drawn-out unlock systems are sometimes annoying to some people like yourself, sure, but if 1 person complains out of every 10, that is no reason whatsoever to just say Here's all the weapons to play around with and get bored with, then want more to unlock! People like unlocking things. It helps to keep people coming back. Not that hard to rank up, either. I admit Battlefield 3's unlock system is a bit daunting, and I expect they will make it a bit better for BF4 and Battlefront. DLC DLC DLC isn't really DLC DLC DLC like you're saying. Premium was a good idea and was well worth the price if you bought it early on before buying 2 or more expansions, but I'm not saying I -like- the idea of something like Premium, just that is really isn't that evil like some people seem to think. The expansions really are "expansions". They have maps with new vehicles, unlocks, weapons, etc. Assignments to keep you coming back to unlock things... The base maps do get old pretty quickly, but I still love to play on a lot of them. There's no reason they should've been handing out these large expansions for free. No reason whatsoever. You mentioned Battlefield 2 being back with the "good" DICE. That game had multiple expansions that were, I admit, slightly larger overall than each of BF3's expansions, but they were also way more expensive. I mean, come on, this is 2013, not 2003. Battlefield 1942 was released in 2003, back when people liked everything simple, back when sales and mass appeal weren't as big of a factor. Back when the economy was somewhat more stable. The video games industry is declining, you know. That's why a lot of companies are going down, and why a lot more are fighting to stay alive by doing things like DLC DLC DLC. It makes them money. They're not evil for trying to survive and keep on making games, no matter how annoying things like DLC may be. And also, ranks don't matter if the weapons are BALANCED. Being rank 1 or rank 50 is irrelevent in a lot of well-balanced games. Battlefield 3 isn't exactly one of them, sure. BF2 and 1942 certainly weren't balanced. That was back when gun balancing really didn't matter. But look at what they've shown from BF4. They have learned so much and listened to their community SO much. They were just experimenting with Frostbite 2 with BF3, lots of bugs and all. They were just experimenting with this huge unlock system. 100+ weapons, attachments, etc. It was all a bit much to pack into one game ESPECIALLY since EA rushed them through to a way-too-early release date. Both EA and DICE have done so much right since then, yet many people still continue to hate on them because they're too blind to see the changes that have been made. That said, I do honestly agree and hope that Battlefront doesn't have that huge unlock system. That would be pretty nice. I can understand why you might be upset about EA and DICE making this game, and I understand some of your concerns, and I admit I would love to have a good-old-fashioned game where there's nothing to unlock, free new maps for years, etc, etc, but that is not how video games work anymore, sadly. -- I know this game will be more than worthy of the Star Wars name because I know the developers put their hearts and souls into everything they make. It isn't what DICE is working on and you can see that if you're familiar with Frostbite. It looks exactly like Frostbite engine to mein eyes as well as to folks I showed it to given that it literally looks like Battlefield 3 with lasers and the rifle even has the same animations as the G3 from Battlefield 3. I mean, come on, this is 2013, not 2003. Battlefield 1942 was released in 2003, back when people liked everything simple, back when sales and mass appeal weren't as big of a factor. They're not evil for trying to survive and keep on making games, no matter how annoying things like DLC may be. You're implying that EA is really hurting from the economy when they really aren't. Any pain EA is feeling is from their own actions. They're not some starving little kid surviving from the little bit of profit from game to game. They're really a fat lord sitting there with all the food in the kingdom laid before them at a feast, stuffing their fat faces, purging once they reach their fill, then stuffing their faces once again while others are cowering in the corner, starving, waiting for a crumb to roll off their fat faces and land far enough away that they can grab it without being in range to be skewered by EA's "peasant fork" and devoured themselves. They were just experimenting with this huge unlock system. 100+ weapons, attachments, etc. It was all a bit much to pack into one game ESPECIALLY since EA rushed them through to a way-too-early release date. While EA undoubtedly rushed them for time, DICE is not innocent in the shit that was wrong with Battlefield 3. They dropped the ball with that game, hard. And to top it off, they refused to acknowledge it. Actually, that's not quite right, since refusing to acknowledge it implies that DICE knows what they did, but doesn't admit it. They just outright will not let the knowledge that they fucked up and how they fucked up enter their heads, so all they do is just sit in a big circle, jerk each other off, and brag about how they made the best fucking game ever and anyone who disagrees is a filthy peasant. While the Battlefield 4 gameplay footage, while heavily scripted (if it was even legitimate game footage), does show some neat features such as the return of commander, destruction, and knife countering, the fact that it looks like nothing more than a Battlefield 3 map pack with flare does not impress me. Even the commander looks like it's being overvalued given that in legitimate gameplay the commander will be done by a real player not operating off a script, so in the time that it'd take the guy to fire a tomahawk at the T-90s in the trailer, I would be able to parachute down to them as a support and C4 them. It looks good on paper but the execution is gonna be bad. What I'm expecting from it is the same damned problems as BF3. Shitty maps, poor weapon balancing, bad hitboxes, attachments that don't do what they're supposed to and are actually detrimental to the gun, vaulting over pebbles, bipoding into walls, headshots often doing less damage than body shots, glitched attachment combinations, and shotguns dealing only a single pellet's worth of damage point blank (all of these are major problems with Battlefield 3 btw, and still in AFAIK). Until they show me otherwise, I'm not going to believe a scripted, or worse, gameplay footage video, but will take their announcement trailer that has glaring problems as a sign of the care they're putting into it (Gods that helicopter that has rockets flying out the bottom of the pods is bad). Battlefield 4 was announced while Battlefield 3 was still a new game, that's not a good sign, and now it turns out they're working on Star Wars: Battlefront at the same time, also not a good sign. The same problems I'm expecting from Battlefield 4 I'm expecting from Battlefront. I hope I am wrong because if I'm right, one way or another this'll be the last chance for Battlefront. Either the game blows and no one buys it, and no one ever makes another one because of it, or the game blows and people do buy it, at which point EA/Dice maintain a stranglehold on it and keep rushing out shitty map packs sequels, at which point a legitimately good one doesn't get made.
