Nintendo : Bring Star Fox 2 to the Virtual Console

Star Fox 2 was a complete game for SNES, but never released. Nintendo Power was hyping up the game for a Summer 1995, but it didn't make that date. Behind the scenes, the game was cancelled by Shigeru Miyamoto because he wanted a clean break between the 3D games on the Super Nintendo and the N64. Fans were disappointed when Star Fox 64 was announced, killing all hope for a release of Star Fox 2. There have re production carts and ROMs of the game, but people want that true Nintendo experience. So, I make this to show Nintendo that people want a release of Star Fox 2 in way, shape, or form. They can make it for the Virtual Console for the 3DS so it can be cheap for people to buy, or the remake the game for the 3DS and add extra features and emprove the visuals so they can make it 3D like Star Fox 64 3D. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

I just signed it. This wasn't a bad game at all and hopefully enough people will sign this too.

You know, because petitions have a great record of actually amounting to something.  I wish I could be less pessimistic, though I don't see any positive outcome coming from this.

Seeing as it's been such a long time and Star Fox has taken so many different turns, I see little purpose in signing it. It makes no difference whether it gets released or not for me. Also, if the released it, they will want to charge a fee on it. But why pay it? There's so many ROMs of the thing out there that you can just download and play! Plus, the second the game is released, the grey area in the ethic of downloading the game becomes legally a no-go, so downloading it becomes wrong. People would rather know they can get it for free and technically not break rules.

As for explaining it; good on you, but if it's just the lowdown on the game, it's old news. We may not talk a ton about Star Fox a ton around here, but we've got the knowledge somewhere in our heads.

Either way it would A: Be an easily realizable source of profit for Nintendo, as well as an opportunity to express still present recognition of the Franchise, as well as attract attention to a long, long-neglected franchise.

Well, they did release earthbound, even though it was impossible..

And also, consumers buying something or not has nothing to do with whether you can get it free somewhere.. Take tap water vs bottled water. Its a matter of whether someone is willing to pay for something. People have reasons to encourage content producers by giving them their money. Namely, the expectation of more of the same, along with getting the real official thing.

Plus, what sells usually between something free or the same thing not for free with extra convenience, is the most convenient of the two. Like, you can indeed build a car from scratch, and use scrap parts or materials people gave you for free, but its going to take a long time ! You're better off saving money, then buying one, given that you'll waste less time that way.

A threat from the legal system for being content with getting something for free or for less than the original seller would want(without depriving someone of the use of something) at a lesser convenience and value, is an unhealthy and completely worthless way of "promoting" the sale of your goods. It was proven many times over in the past, yet the same things keep happening..

In a way, the free alternatives are just like having competition. (competing with free is entirely possible, remember the bottled vs tap water example ?) Competition is what drives innovation. Its harsh, but forces people to adapt and improve, and keeps them from sitting on their ass reselling the same crap over and over again. [/rant]

No super FX game has been ported to VC. Probably because Nintendo doesn't find it cost effective to modify their emulator to run only a handful of games.

I'd be surprised if they did approve of it. However, it is extremely unlikely.

Who knows maybe SF1 & SF2 will be ported into the Wii U in the near future or might be ported a couple of months before Starfox WII U comes out to promote the game .

Seeing as the game can be downloaded for free, and be played on adequetely on a emulator, this does seem a bit pointless.

Far from it...

Releasing the game on VC means:

- More visibility for the SF franchise

- A bug fixed game

- A nod to the old canon, of probably one of the only franchises Nintendo has rebooted ( Besides Donkey Kong recently.. I want my kremlings back dammit !  )..

- A chance for Nintendo to sell a product that could be worth buying

As for the idea of paying for something free, think about this:

If water is free, why do people buy bottled water ?

Convenience and value, that's why ! Bottled water got an added value in the eye of the consumers, and it is convenient.

Downloading cultural content like that from the net, is hardly convenient, given you might just get viruses from ads and corrupted files and so on. You get no warranty either. And have to fine tune and setup everything yourself.

It might not sound like much to anybody experienced, but most people have no clue, and want things to be simple ( that's why they make the mistake of buying Macs :-P ), and they'll pay for convenience ! That's how a big part of the economy works !

Which is why you don't have to take university courses to build yourself a computer from scratch..

Well, I still don't know why the original SF isn't on VC but I like to think they would release that and follow it up with SF2.

I suppose the only way to experience it is via emulator. Just proves you can't always get what you want.

You know, given how they weren't even gonna release it, I think we got extremely lucky to even have the game in this form at all ! So, I wouldn't say you're not getting what you want, just not on a golden plate so to speak.

It was leaked during the collapse of Argonaut. I remember reading that the code itself was lost in the collapse, so if they were to every try to bring it back they'd h ave to start over.

Anyway, winners don't do warez. ROMs are bad.
