Meiryu no Shugan
Hi! I noticed there was a community on non- SF related works and I decided to show my other stuff to you guys! I'm not all just SF of course. I do a lot of other stuff, but I mostly am focusing on a Pokémon fan manga designed to make it a little more teen- oriented. Here's a heavy inked in drawing of my OC, The Blue-Eyed Carnage KirÅ!
Meiryu no Shugan
Here's some more pictures they're older concepts of KirÅ and his weapon, the Aura sword ZanpakutÅ. No not the Bleach kind it's way different. Hope you like and please make any comments you want on it. I will happily respond :)
sjrathbun812
Some of your art reminded me of Fire Emblem. But, it is manga/anime style, so go figure. This stuff is good, too! Definitely keep at it.
Meiryu no Shugan
Thanx! For KirÅ's most recent design, I was going for a teenage samurai version of Sir Aaron from Movie 8: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. The sword he carries is one of Sir Aaron's creations. More on that next entry ;D
Meiryu no Shugan
Well, here it is -- the Aura Sword, ZanpakutÅ. Forged by Sir Aaron at the end of the Kanto Civil War, it is the ultimate Aura-channeling instrument. Its most notable ability is the power to literally cut Aura, bypassing one's physical being to affect the Soul (aka Aura) directly -- hence it's moniker: ZanpakutÅ, the "Soul-Slaying Sword." Sir Aaron himself, however, only wielded it once, and for good reason: at the battle he set off to stop in Movie 8, with one swing of this sword he literally OBLITERATED both armies. This was due to the fact that he loaded almost all of his Aura, which was comparable to a ShinjÅ« ( Top-level Legendary like Mew for instance) in power. This act was what ultimately caused his death, since to save the Tree of Beginning, he had to use his own life-force to compensate for his all but depleted Aura. Now in the hands of KirÅ, Sir Aaron's eldest living descendant, this blade will see battle again after hundreds of years of dormancy. Sorry bout the long lecture, but passing over that, what do you think? Please reply with your opinions. I shall await with great anticipation. :D
Meiryu no Shugan
Here is a pose shot of KirÅ I made some time ago. It was also good practice with perspective on the ZanpakutÅ. What's your guys' opinion? Please, do tell. :D
Meiryu no Shugan
Here's one I did some time last school year with dip pen, depicting a shot of KirÅ charging forward with an old version of ZanpakutÅ, and Ash right below him, seemingly bellowing a command to an unseen Pokémon. It was inspired by a promo poster for my favorite feature-length anime flick, Sword of the Stranger. Enjoy!
sjrathbun812
Good concepts and figure drawings. Really ought to keep at it.
Meiryu no Shugan
Thanx! Next post I will give an example of the Aura Guardian's most powerful technique -- the HadÅka.
Meiryu no Shugan
This is an example of a HadÅka (lit. "Wave Transformation) -- the Ågi or ultimate jutsu of the HadÅkishi (lit. Wave Knight, Aura Guardians who specialize in combat and warfare.). It involves externalizing one's Aura, which molds into a physical, corporeal shape, unique to every individual. It usually entails a physical change in the user's body, such as an extra eye or limbs such as wings or a tail, and so on, hence the name, HadÅka. It can also take the form of a suit of armor, as with KirÅ's Miyamoto Musashi, as shown below. Each HadÅka bears a specific ability. For instance, the Miyamoto Musashi channels KirÅ's monstrous Aura( which is comparable to a TenshijÅ« [midlevel Legendary, ie Suicine]) into various forms, using his two swords as the channeling focus. Other HadÅka take the form of augmented weapons, such as Ash Ketchum's HadÅka (yes, he has one!) -- Tachibana DÅsetsu, which I will elaborate on later. For now, enjoy this drawing of KirÅ's HadÅka: Miyamoto Musashi!
sjrathbun812
I like how it's overall detailed. The thing that caught my eye more than anything else is probably the sword in his right hand (viewer's left). You achieved the perspective quite nicely. The other hand though is more faded and doesn't protrude as much, causing it to not really match the proportions of the other, but still a nice work of art! Meiryu no Shugan
Well the left hand sword is a wakizashi (lit. "side insertion"), a sort of sidearm for samurai. Tough the length varies with individual blades, they fall between 30-60 cm (12-23.5 in.) while the katana or longsword is 60 cm ( 23.5 in) and up. That's why the other one is so short. Together they form the daishÅ (big-little), which is a symbol of the samurai's social status and power. In fact, only samurai and daimyÅ (feudal lords) were permitted to carry daishÅ. Civilians were only able to carry Å-wakizashi ( wakizashi just under katana length.) in the open, if anything at all. Putting that aside, I really appreciate your compliments in my threads. Thanx! :D
sjrathbun812
Aw, your welcome. Actually, now that you've explained it, it makes more sense now. Even so I'm pleased to see you don't take slight criticism really hard or anything. Perhaps in future posts I will give things that are more critical. Still constructive and supportive, but I want to aim to give you more help then just encouragement. After all, encouragement is always nice, but I find I really prefer people to point out my errors more than anything else, as that helps me improve. Meiryu no Shugan
To all Pokémon fans: Can anyone guess who the dude on the lower left is? Hint: take a good long look at his clothes and especially his hat. You should get it. ;)
