ballisticwaffles
I know only about three of you actually know or play Crusader Kings 2, but this is important, so here is a brief rundown. Crusader Kings 2 was released February 14, 2012 to raving reviews and tremendous profit by Paradox Interactive, a Swedish company who's library includes Sword of the Stars, Magicka (The Mage Suicide Simulator), Mount and Blade, and Cities in Motion. Crusader Kings 2 is a game about Dynastic politics and killing people. Lots of people. Its about your family, a Family like the von Hapsburg's and the Capet's, and you and your descendants interactions with the time period. This game is different from other such Grand Strategy games like Total War is that in Total War you may decide to Declare war. In Crusader Kings, you COULD declare war, but all you would do is put a foreign king into power again because he fled into your court. But if you marry your Possessed Cannibal daughter with Female Inheritance to him you could press his claim on the throne and then wait until he dies (Or you could send a legion of increasingly incompetent and expensive assassins) to put the Newborn on the throne because your his last name is the same as yours. But good luck if you lose to many men because the neighboring kingdoms eye your land like a Turkey Dinner for Men with no self control. It has a learning Curve, but at the top of that Steep Curve is pure unmitigated Fun. So the reason i bring this up is because after release, Paradox hasn't stopped releasing Massive Expansion packs to the game, along with updates that have so far taken the game to version 2.04. These updates have completely changed how the game works, from simple things like how the Technology works to adding dozens of massive empires the player can form. The Expansion packs have so far added relatively simple things. Legacy of Rome adds mechanics for the Byzantine Empire Sword of Islam allows the playability of Muslims. Sunset Invasion adds an Aztec invasion of Europe (It also adds mechanics for Immortality.) The Republic adds Merchant Republics as playable factions The Old Gods adds Playable Pagans, like the Norse and the Zoroastrian Faith. Sons of Abraham adds the Jews. Also a College of Cardinals, but mostly the Jews. Simple stuff, especially for DLC released in a time span of 2 years. But Paradox announced after the release of the Sons of Abraham that the Crusader Kings 2 dev cycle was "half finished." Yesterday Paradox announced a brand new DLC that most likely is the beginning of the second half of this development cycle. With 300 New Provinces, which doubles the land Area of the Game, potentially 2 Brand new Faiths, a load of other mechanics that make my mouth water, Paradox is adding all of India to Crusader Kings 2. What i am Calling the "Holy Crap a New Subcontinent" DLC, this is a tremendous deal. The previous DLC have all been about expanding the realms of Medieval Europe and making each individual thing in the game worth at least playing once. All of which was one half of the development cycle of the game. This adding of both new geographical locations and new Non-Western faiths sparks a glimmer of hope inside me. While being tremendous in its own right, the New Subcontinent adds a huge potential for many other things to be added in game. Perhaps a northern expansion to allow a much larger Mongolian realm? Perhaps all of China? Perhaps Japan? Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps. Dis Gonna be Gud.
