general scales boss fight

i think we can assume most of us were disappointed with the rushed ending and final bosses or, just the final boss, lets try and think how it could have and should have been.

 

lets try to assume he was an actual boss fight

 

what do we know about scales abilities?

 

well, he can turn invisible with a nifty button on his belt,

 

he's a good swordsmen,

 

he could grab and throw you

 

uses his fellow sharp claws as shields (now thats cruel)

 

it was also going to let you and falco actually team up for this fight, there are sound clips ripped from the game. now how can you make this a challenging boss fight if you have a helping A.I. with a blaster?

 

how would you hurt him? we see he had a heart bar on top of his head, so unless you would just wack him with your stick and damage him like any other bad guy, how'd he be so different?

 

maybe you could use your staff powers against him, freezing him then hitting him for damage, when he grabs your partner you can use the super quake,

 

he could grow and turn invisible for a second phase and you'd have to use your heat blast to shrink him down and make him visible again, also you'd have to use your sense of hearing.

 

so what more ideas could work?

I too was pretty disappointed I didn't get to take him down (but in my terrible fanfic he gets his just desserts ohohohohoho) and I have to admit I was looking forward to a good brawl with him.

 

I imagine him to just be a really strong Sharpclaw, maybe a little faster and having a few "pick up and bite/throw away/slam into the ground" attacks with inspiration from the Test of Fear. He'd deal more damage. I imagine having to stun him with something before being able to deal any damage.

I never really saw that much final boss potential for Scales. Even before I knew about the Andross ending bullshit he always seemed more as a Sharpclaw figurehead than a leader that gains respect out of fear and intimidation.

 

So with that in mind my imagination is certainly limited in it's elaboration, coupled with the games horrible combat system when basic enemies are concerned (think back to how much blocking you had to wait out while fighting the weakest grunts in the game), I'm imagining he would probably have some fancy attacks that are relatively easy to avoid and block, but as the fight went on he'd probably have some more scripted and elaborate attacks (as bosses tend to have) such as calling in more minions, some sort of ranged attack, or another one that you can't block.

 

All of this aside, I will admit that actually having fought him no matter what he was like would have been more fun than him just giving up and collapsing.

Killing that fucker personally would've been pretty awesome, and it woulda made more sense than an arwing segment

 

Using all the skills you'd attained for the staff to defeat Scales woulda made more sense from a design perspective because it was the payoff to the buildup of all the new staff abilities,as opposed to a random ass arwing segment which we had about 4 previous instances to use said star-fighter.

 

I'm not saying SF-AD needed less arwing, I'm saying it needed more so that the final boss fight felt like a challenge of skills attained throughout the game, as opposed to a shoe-horned in bossfight that just HAD to have for the sake of irrelevant tradition

I never really was that disappointed that I didn't get to fight him. Expected to, but wasn't terribly disappointed.

 

I was, however, puzzled recently when I played Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

At the end, you didn't fight the main bad guy the entire game built you up to fight... It just kinda ended.

Great game but that disappointed me more than the Adventures twist.

 

As for Scales. I imagine it would've been kind of like Drakor, in a way. Fighting at Krazoa Palace, probably. Scales with his sword(s) and Fox with his staff. Scales makes threats, toys with Fox, Scales zips around the arena stabbing at you while you try to take him down with some combination of your staff's abilities.

 

Probably would have been a lot of fun. I know Rare would've handled a boss fight with Scales very well.

I really enjoyed the Andross fight too, though.

But you don't suppose the fight above the lava on that small platform where you were chasing around Drakor and shooting endlessly at him was meant to be the actual final battle, in Dinosaur Planet? It wouldn't have been fitting for a final boss fight, especially not from Rare.

To be honest. The Dinosaur battle in the Sun Temple was more of a fight than the Andross battle. Looking back, I hated the Final Boss battle. Andross had no real part in the videogame and as a boss, it just seemed too old skool to be a actual challenge. I dunno, maybe to the younger audience it was. But if Gen. Scales was boss, it should be one of those series bosses where there are levels of fighting, be it grunts, cannons, whatever, before the 1v1 agianst Scales.
