Didn't we JUST have a thread about this?

and it's been 9 years since the last canon game in the series that isnt a remake. Everyone's played it all, spoilers aren't a problem.

I didn't see another thread on this subject, but I submitted this somewhat late at night, so maybe I totally missed it.

As for the spoiler tags, I tend to be on the really cautious end, but I can remove them if there isn't a risk of spoiling plot details any longer.

EDIT: Done.

He's dead. Him not being dead would discount the entirety of the only thing resembling a character arc that Fox has been through.

Well if we are going by the n64 canon.. James was captured by the betrayal of Pigma Dangar on planet Venom. Peppy barely escaped. So it's clear that James was in captivity under Andross.. James would be the biggest threat to Andross at the time, so the only reasonable thing to do would be to kill him.

If James survived he would of had plenty of time to escape. I believe the intro states a few years pass after the events of the sabotaged scout mission. Then Fox makes his new Starfox team.

In my opinion I think the disembodied spirit of James helped Fox escape the base. Or possibly Fox had a near death experience, and his mind compensated an apparition to keep his wits about him in survival mode.

As much as I want James to be alive, Nintendo never has done much with it, and any view otherwise is just speculation.

Instead of killing James, I imagine Andross as having been more clever than that.

Then wouldn't he just, you know, kill him? Get the most prominent threat out of your life for good? I don't think necromancy or whatever it is you're thinking was really on Andross' "to-do" list.

The JP SF64 manual says James is dead. Not it stops him from showing up alive somewhere. What with how everybody in Star Wolf died in 64.

Except that Andross knew James had a son, Fox, who would eventually come after him. I'm thinking Andross planned to use James against Fox somehow when that happened, but didn't count on James being able to resist his influence.

I have to give it to you, this is the silliest headcanon in this fandom that I've ever seen. I honestly don't see how any of this works and as far as canon goes, James is dead. It's fun to speculate what happened but this is just a little too absurd.

Would be a fun fanfic idea but there's no way that's what they were getting at in canon, sorry. It's too huge of a behind-the-scenes thing to never at all be mentioned by anyone in the actual game.

The English version doesn't outrank the Japanese verson.

More importantly, though, is that we can all get what we want out of the story.

Agreed wholeheartedly, as long as we actually acknowledge what the story is trying to tell us. It's also important to heed and respect what the writers have actually written.

I really wish Nintendo would of kept the snes Itoh comics as canon to the series. The black hole idea is really awesome. I suppose James being trapped in a parrell dimension would be a plausible way this theory could work.

There's always been holes to fill in the plot for starfox. It makes it fun to think about it though.

Joseph.

If James is dead then what did Fox actually see, hear, and follow?

My guess: Nintendo just likes to mess around with the players head. Stating he's dead in the game but later appearing creates in-depth thoughts. Thoughts that'll make the player come back and revisit the game to probably figure out if he's dead/alive or allow fans to exchange thoughts with one another. This makes the ending more meaningful rather then just being dull.

I think he is dead i have not played SF64 in awhile so my memory is hazy but i am pretty sure he left the same way fox left the tunnel and if he was alive why didn't rob or any other member of Star Fox not spot him while he was exiting out with fox

I provide alternative explanations to that and more in the Reddit thread I created: http://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/2jrmx6/spoilers_could_james_mccloud_still_be_alive/

No worries, though I'm not sure why you are apologizing, since I don't see how you would even know that thread existed until now. Anyway, I'm frequenty adding to and improving that thread, so if you're interested, you should check back there often.

Again, no worries. But back to the topic: In the Reddit thread, I explain (among other things) how James could be alive yet also realistically go unnoticed.

      Teaser trailer is here!

      What is it?
Star Fox 2: HD is an ongoing work to remaster and add new features to the SNES Star Fox, the unreleased Star Fox 2 and potentially Star Fox 64.
Currently, this project is being worked on by only one person. However, development positions may open in the future to help work on the game. As only simple scripting knowledge is known, this means there will definitely be spots open for CSharp and JS developers in the future.
The game was originally developed under the working title of 'Electric Boogaloo' (yes, i understand where that comes from) however the name was changed for obvious reasons after the development became a serious project. The game is also going to have its own soundtrack, composed of the SNES Star Fox 1 and 2 soundtrack re-mastered.
Unlike the SNES Star Fox 1, which had a linear 'corridor' mode for most of its levels, Star Fox 2: HD will be more open, allowing you to fly around and explore, maybe find an easter egg or two.

Nothing has been asked yet, however I've brewed up a couple you might wonder.
"What game engine does this use?"
      -The game uses Unity 5.
"What if you get a cease and desist or anything like that?"
      -meh.
"How is the soundtrack going to be done?"
-The Star Fox .spc songs are going to exported from the .sfc as MIDI, then played through a custom soundfont after instrument and channel tweaks are done.
"How can I contribute to the development of the game?"
-You can find me on discord (Revolver Ocelot#6732) and then you can explain how you want to help the game.

      Hello everyone. ^^
My name is MidnightMike, and I'm here to show you my tribute animation to the original Star Fox, which celebrated it's 25th anniversary this past March.
I know it might not be as good as you were hoping, but I had fun making it. Here it is. :)

Since around 2010, I’ve been developing a fanmade animated series based around the unreleased video game Dinosaur Planet.

Most of you guys probably know about Dinosaur Planet and how it transitioned to Star Fox Adventures. If not, Dinosaur Planet was a game that was developed by Rareware and Nintendo and was supposed to be the Nintendo 64's swansong before Rare went on to developing next-gen titles on the Gamecube. The original project was soon rebranded into a Star Fox title after Nintendo saw similarities between DP protagonist Sabre and Star Fox's own Fox McCloud. Dinosaur Planet became a Gamecube title now known as Star Fox Adventures, with many differences besides the setting and cast changes. Nearly 1/2 of DP's original content was cut in the transition, and the new storyline of Starfox Adventures became a plothole ridden mess. Shortly after SFA's release, Rareware was purchased by Microsoft, spelling the end of Rare and Nintendo's partnership to this day.

Despite these events, the story of what would've been Rareware's last and greatest game on Nintendo 64 has not been forgotten. Even after many years, gamers and beta enthusiasts continued to look into the mysteries surrounding Dinosaur Planet and its transition into SFA. Now me and my team are here to pay tribute to one of the greatest lost Nintendo 64 games of all time.

The story of Dinosaur Planet follows two characters who must save a planet in peril. Along their journey they face many challenges, such as an evil reptilian tyrant, a destructive dragon, the mysterious Quan Ata Lachu, and many more.

We have planned out a total of 13 episodes. We currently have four of the episodes written out, but right now we are in the need of a new head writer, as our previous one had to leave due to unfortunate situations she needed to take care of. We are also in need of more animators. We have about 5 animators so far, but we are still looking for more who are skilled in either traditional or computer animation. The animation we plan for the series will be mostly traditional animation, mixed with minor CG bits used to enhance a few scenes. As for voice actors, we pretty much have most of the entire cast selected, but we are still in need of a few more minor roles.

As of right now, we have no budget for this project since we are trying to work around the copyright issues with Nintendo. Because of this, the work is mainly volunteering until further notice.

Below is an animated clip of the upcoming teaser trailer we plan to release later this Spring.

For more info on the series, visit http://dpfanseries.webs.com

PS: I wasn't quite sure which section of the forum this topic fitted in since I wanted to include the link to the project's website and some of the rules are a bit confusing for me.

As evidenced by my profile picture, quote, and actions, I love spy fiction movies and television shows. James Bond being my favorite but also movie series such as the Bourne franchise, the Mission: Impossible franchise, The November Man, and and T.V. series such as The Blacklist and Burn Notice. Any other spy fiction lovers here?
