Star Fox: Reborn (PART 1)

10 years after the destruction of Andross (Star Fox 64).

Johnathan Smoke sat in his bunk, his bushy gray tail nestled by his side. Johnathan held his flight helmet and gleamed at it in happiness. His small black eyes couldn't look away from his achievement. He was now part of the infamous Husky Squadron. Years of grinding training at the CFT had finally brought him to this moment. Johnathan always dreamed of flying for Corneria. The war had brought such devastation to his home world, but also brought devastation to him. The war took the life of his mother. The only person in Johnathan's life that ever truly loved him. His mother always encouraged him to join the Cornerian Army, but because the death of his father, Johnathan felt obligated to take care of his mother. With her dying breath, she made him swear that he would follow his dreams and become a pilot. And here he was. Living the promise that he made to his mother. Johnathan Smoke could never be happier.

Suddenly a loud abrupt announcement rang out on the battle com.

"Husky Squadron report to battle room, Husky Squadron to battle room!"

Johnathan quickly rose and dressed in his flight suit, grabbed his helmet, and was out the door in a flash. As he walked by several soldiers in the hallway, Johnathan began to wonder why the summons of his squadron. He heard of pirates making hit and runs on merchant ships on the way to Katina, but that couldn't possibly be it. As he thought deeply on the matter, a large sparrow began to walk by him. Johnathan didn't notice until the large bird spoke to him.

"So I guess your new to the squadron?"

Johnathan looked at the bird. He wore the Husky Squadron insignia patch on his jump suit. Johnathan replied,

"I guess so."

The brown bird scoffed,

"Listen fur ball, you better not slow us down. I don't want to be protecting your bushy tail ass out in the black. Got it?"

"I won't be a problem." He stated nervously.

"The hell you won't. All of these newbie pilots get so jumpy they make dumb ass decisions. Just obey orders, OK?"

Johnathan nodded. As much of a jackass this pilot seemed, he spoke solid advice.

The two pilots walked toward the end of the hall and entered the elevator together. As the doors slid shut, only the silent hum of the elevator could be heard. Johnathan decided to break the awkward silence,

"Why do you think we got called up?"

"Hell if I know, I'm sure Bill will give us all the details when were in the battle room." The sparrow looked at the young pilot, he could see the fear in his eyes.

"You gotta name kid?"

Johnathan looked at the bird and replied,

"John Smoke, what about you?"

"Flint Dickson." Stated the bird firmly.

The elevator door quickly opened wide. The two pilots quickly paced down the hallway, sliding past other busy Cornerian soldiers.

"How long have you been a pilot?" questioned Johnathan with interest.

"A couple of years or so."

"Wow! Do you have a lot of kills?" Johnathan inquired.

Flint chuckled,

"Well I'm no Fox McCloud if that's what your asking, but I have a decent number of kills."

Johnathan and Flint suddenly stopped in front of a door, it slid open unveiling the massive battle room. In front was a large monitor displaying Meteo. Johnathan gazed at the screen, finally realizing the location of their mission. But what could possibly be going on in the Asteroid Belt? It was way to close for pirates and their weapon dealings. If it was pirates, why would they risk doing their dirty work so close to Cornerian space?

Out of the shadows of the room came Commander Bill Grey. He was just as magnificent as Johnathan's instructors described him in his flight training. He stood tall in his white and green Husky Squadron flight suit. His green helmet at his side. His long ears hung by his face, showing age. The pictures that Johnathan saw viewed a young vigorous Bill Grey. This Version of Bill Grey looked worn and aged, filled with experience.

"Welcome to Husky Sargent."

Bill's voice strangely didn't sound old, but young. It surprised Johnathan.

Johnathan saluted quickly,

"Thank you sir. It's a pleasure to fly with Husky Squadron."

Bill walked over to Flint. Flint smiled and saluted also,

"Pleasure to see you again sir."

Bill returned the friendly gesture and smiled back,

"Good to see you too Flint, how was your R&R?"

"It wasn't too bad sir, got some drinks in me, but i'm ready for combat. Sir, if I may ask, where is the rest of the Squadron?"

"I'll tell you all in good time, but let's get to our mission, take a seat gentleman."

Johnathan and Flint sat side by side as Bill walked up to the monitor and gave direction.

"Cornerian analysts have reported massive heat signatures in the depths of Meteo. We haven't seen activity like this since the war with Andross. Command is very concerned with what could be out there, but they're taking no chances. Our Mission at 0700, is to recon the area and report back to our two Cornerian battle cruisers, The Inceptor, and The Hawkeye that will be to our rear. We'll regroup with Husky and Bulldog squadron and await further instruction from General Pepper.

Flint spoke out,

"Sir, what the hell do you think is out there? Is it some sort of massive pirate attack?"

"My guess is no, Space Pirates are a shifty bunch, they don't tend to align themselves. However, one thing to note, is that we have been confirming reports on more and more activity on Venom as well. Do I know if this has any relevance to Meteo? Hell if I know. One thing is for sure, we better be flying wing to wing out there understand? We are not to engage. The whole Cornerian Army is on high alert. Get to your fighters, I'll see you out in the black. Good luck."

Bill gave a salute, the two pilots rose immediately and saluted Bill and the commander exited the battle room. The two pilots were now alone.

"Well Johnny boy, looks like you'll be seeing action for sure."

Flint gave a hardy chuckle and followed Bill out the room as well.

Johnathan sat back down in his chair and was left alone with his thoughts. If it wasn't Space Pirates, what was this mysterious enemy? And what was their motive?

Meanwhile near Venom....

Fox McCloud lay resting. However his mind was far off in a dream. Memories began to flow back into his consciousness. He saw fire, the inferno engulfing his small Arwing. Fox's sweat on his brow was uncontrollable. He thought it was the end, surely his life was now over. But far off in the distance, Fox saw an object. It looked to be another Arwing craft. An old familiar voice echoed in his com link.

"Follow me son...."

Fox rose from his bed quickly. Sweat dripping from his fur. He began to pant. Fox rose out of his bunk and walked into the bathroom, turned on the sink and began to wash his face, slurping water at the same time. Fox looked in the mirror. His face was damp from the water, and he looked tired. Every time he tried to sleep, he was haunted by his nightmares. He kept seeing his father escorting him out of Andross's lair. Just as he did ten years ago. Well at least Fox thought he saw his father leading him out of the explosion. Or did he see things? Or could it be that his father was still alive, and Andross never killed him? Fox shook his head quickly to purge the thought out of his head. No. His father was dead. He would never come back, Fox had to face this fact and move on.

Fox's thoughts were disrupted by a friendly familiar robotic voice on ships com,

"Fox, we are getting distress signal from Falco and Slippy on patrol."

Fox sprinted to his night table and put his com link in his ear, while also putting on his flight suit.

"What's wrong ROB? Did they encounter pirates?"

"I'm unaware of the enemy status. Stand by for further information."

"ROB, tell Peppy to meet me at the bridge! OK?"

"I will tell Peppy."

Fox dashed out of his quarters and sprinted down the hallway of the Great Fox toward the Bridge, Fox approached the door, activated the control panel, and entered Great Fox's Bridge. There in the center of the bridge stood the robot ROB. Fox ran toward the communication console.

"ROB, patch me into Falco quick!"

ROB tapped several buttons on different consoles with his large metal arms, finally he responded,

"We now have communications with Falco and Slippy."

Fox didn't hesitate, he began hollering into the com,

"Falco this is Fox, what's your situation?"

Static filled the room, until the voice of angry Falco Lombardi filled the bridge.

"Fox the situation is shit! That's what it is! This whole operation that General Pepper hired us to do is SNAFU!"

"Falco, you need to calm down, tell me what's wrong?!"

Well let's just say this Fox, good O'l Pepper told us to investigate this strange activity at Venom right? I'll tell you what the activity is, It's the whole frickn' Venomian Army at our heels."

In the midst of the static, a frightened Slippy Toad chimed in,

"And they sure don't look to happy to see us, That's for sure!"

Fox quickly asked,

"Have you two taken any damage?"

Falco replied,

"I've taken minor damage to my hull, Slippy is in worse shape than me. He lost his left wing. We'll be at your door step in ETA five minuets!"

"We'll be ready Falco!" Fox jumped out of the console seat,

"ROB, put Great Fox on full battle alert, I'm going to go help them in the Arwing, set a course for Corneria, we're getting the hell outa here!"

Fox ran out of the bridge and was suddenly joined by Peppy Hare in the hallway, running quickly by his side.

"What's all the commotion Fox?"

"Falco and Slippy are getting chased by Venomian fighters. Slippy's ship is hit, Falco can only hold on so long. Were going to go help them and get out of this place."

"Sounds good to me! How many fighters are after them Fox?"

"I hope Falco was sarcastic, but my bet he wasn't. He said there's quite a few ships headed our way."

Peppy shook his head,

"My bet it was Slippy's fault again."

The two turned right and opened the sliding door leading into the hanger. Their two blue Arwing fighters sat waiting for them. Fox and Peppy jumped in their cockpits and launched out of Great Fox within a minute. Fox quickly adjusted to his com frequency,

"Falco! Send Peppy and I your coordinates, were on our way!"

It only took moments before Fox's front screen shown the coordinates of Falco and Slippy's position.

"Slippy listen, Great Fox, Falco, Peppy and I will draw off their fire. Dock in the main hanger OK?"

Slippy replied nervously,

"OK, Fox. Make it quick! These guys will have me soon."

Peppy and Fox flew their Arwings at a fast speed until they saw them on their readings.

Peppy blurted out excitedly,

"Fox! Fox, I see them on my scope and their coming up fast!"

Peppy was indeed right. Up ahead flew Falco and wounded Slippy, zigzagging trying to dodge the continuous laser fire from the enemy pursuing behind them.

Falco yelled,

"Get ready boys! We brought the party!"

Fox glared down in front of him, gritted his teeth, charged his laser, locked a target, and fired. From then on, all hell broke loose.

All fighters weaved in and out of each other, firing red and green laser blasts everywhere. Fox shooting fighters anywhere he could see them. Falco yelled out in distress,

"Shit there all over me! I can't shake them off!"

Fox quickly barrel rolled and began to shoot his laser ferociously at the Venomian targets pursuing Falco. Falco quickly somersaulted out of further enemy fire. However, Fox picked up a horde of enemy fighters on his tail. Fox cursed under his breath and dove, but the fighters still stuck to him like glue. Falco's voice yelled on the com,

"Fox I'm coming around and ready to return the favor!"

Fox smiled,

"What took you so long! Are you tired or something?"

Falco flew directly at Fox's nose, until at the last second, Fox veered toward his right. Falco shot his charged laser, the impulse blast destroying all of the trailing fighters.

"Nice shot Falco!"

Peppy called to Fox,

"Fox! Watch your six! You just picked up horde of Venomian fighters!"

Fox looked behind him, Peppy was right. Fox pulled up into a climb, and his enemies pursued. He then let the break following into barrel roll, enemy fighters dodged past the spinning blue Arwing worried of having a collision. Fox seeing his targets, then fired his bomb. The small white plasma trailed forward, then creating a huge eruption of power, destroying all Venomian targets within it's path.

Falco chuckled,

"Always the fancy flyer Fox."

Peppy then screamed out in pain,

"ARGHHH!"

Fox's heart lept out of his stomach,

"Peppy! What's your status!"

"I got hit on my starboard side!"

"How bad is it?"

"I'm still in the fight Fox, I'm not leaving you two alone in this dogfight! Not yet!"

Fox flew in and shot off the fighters that shot up his wing man. He began to look at his scope, the enemy was everywhere. They wouldn't be able to hold them for long. Fear began to strike Fox, nothing like he had fealt before. What Falco said to him in Great Fox began to echo in his memory. Did General Pepper really bring the destruction of them all? Could this be the end of his team? Had he failed his friends, the only family he had left?

Fox called out to ROB on the com,

"ROB! What's the situation on Great Fox? Can we star travel to Corneria yet? We can't hold these guys off forever!"

ROB responded,

"Great Fox will be leaving in three minutes."

Fox suddenly realized that three minutes would feel like an eternity. And he wasn't wrong. The three members of the Star Fox team weaved in and out of Venomian ships, always trying to shoot off each other's enemies. It was crowded space.

"Slippy! ROB! Get ready on the gun turret! Great Fox can buy us some time when we dock, once were in ROB jet outa here! I don't care if were even fully attached in, go you understand?"

ROB replied,

"Great Fox will go."

The final minute ended and Slippy gave the signal,

"Go Fox! ROB and I got you guys covered!"

The three Arwings dived down toward their ship. Great Fox's guns began blaring at the trailing enemy fighters taking out a great many of them. Fox landed inside first, trying to be gentle, but not succeeding. Peppy crashed in followed by Falco giving Fox a massive whip lash. Fox woozy from the impact, summoned the strength and yelled,

"Now! Go now!"

Great Fox then went into star speed, leaving the attacking enemy Venomian fighters behind.
