Zero's ending. It's a bloody copy/paste of 64's, with only a few MINOR changes! XD

Then, I would give players the option to change the controls to a more traditional format, and improve the motion controls so that we DON'T need multiple buttons tied to just resetting the reticle.

Next, I would give the Training Mode a TON of more challenges, and in the Main Game, I would actually give the Roadmaster a mission to fight in (A really quick idea for example, the Fichinian base that got cut off after reporting something giant has just sent a distress signal. Due to a harsh blizzard however, Pepper has decided to let Star Fox take their new toy on a field run).

Finally, I would improve the music, Sound Test, and model viewer, by at LEAST getting a more heavy-hitting drumset, putting every single song, jingle and loop in the Sound Test, including the absolute MASTERPIECE that is the training menu, and putting all models in the model viewer, incorporating everything Star Fox, Cornerian Army, Venomian Army, Star Wolf, even Katt's fighter, and giving players more ways to interact with the models (at least more than just spinning them around).

I wouldn't try to improve the story so much as try to improve the dialogue exchanges between characters. Please refer to this topic for what I would do on that:

Biggest change that should happen to the story is to have a second alternative to the andross boss fight for a second ending like in 64

There's really nothing you can do to save Zeros story with how messed up it is. As VGM Lover said it's just 64. In fact here's a good description of Zeros story compared to 64s.

Dog ending, I think a dog ending would fix everything.

Zero really suffered from all hype and no payoff. It had minimalist story like 64, but with Battle Begins and more pre-release supplementary material, it really seemed like they had more to go with but didn't use it. The bonus levels being mostly devoid of cahracter interaction and kinda random adds to this: I really think there was gonna be something to connect all these dots and they ran out of time.

If you havent seen it, this explains a lot that's wrong about Zero. I also made an image that covers roughly the same stuff but with a little more additions such as the Fox and Falco Amiibos defeating the entire point in getting all medals to unlock the Retro and Black Arwing.

I prefer Game Maker's Toolkit's video on Zero myself. Much more to the point on core underlying problems with the game's design philosophy.

Either way this is a topic about story, not the game as a game.

I'm so tired of Nintendo rebooting the franchise. Are Nintendo of all people really that low on creativity? Breath of the Wild is a masterpiece and so is Mario Odyssey. So why does Star Fox get the short end of the stick?

Personally, I thought Assault was a great example of moving the story along and raising the stakes.
