Upcoming Sheet Music project

I can't believe I haven't posted this here yet....

In honor of Star Fox 64's 10 year anniversary (coming up in April [Japan], June for the US), I am currently writing a piano reduction of SF64's ending credits music, with intent to post sheet music.

This is not simply taking an orchestral MIDI and setting instruments to piano, this is an actual piano reduction of the piece, taking into consideration the limitations and abilities of the instrument and an average piano player.

I would venture to say that it will be an intermediate level piece. I am simplifying things if I absolutely have to.

As of now, you need to be able to do:

tempo changes

read 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, and 6/8 music.

Understand quarter, eight, and sixteenth triplets

Understand 32nd notes (only a few in there)

Understand 1 and 2 note Grace note patterns

Play 16th notes at allegro with the left hand

play multiple parts with one hand (don't worry, it's nothing too complicated)

Pedaling techniques are a plus. There are a couple of parts where pedal use is required, or the song may sound choppy.

Here is a MIDI-Mockup preview of the arrangement:

http://www.corneriasound.com/betamusic/sf64preview.mp3 (Not a MIDI file, I'm not ready to give out potential sheet music just yet Wink )

The part at :53 will likely be the most complex one hand multi part section.

I am going to try to, by late June, to put up a live performance video of this piece. I may or may not be the performer as I am not a concert pianist.

---

Mockup is complete.

The sheet music is coming along. I just need to make a few corrections, fix some aesthetic spacing issues, and make it less than 10 pages.

Time signatures: 4/4, 2/4, 6/8. 5/4. 6/4

Tempo Range: 70-180bpm

Sounds great. Makes me want to learn how to play the piano again. I had no idea about the anniversary.

I think I'll learn this.  Though I don't have a way to record it, so no live performances, sorry!

...I better listen to the preview when NOT in class.  XD

I'll definitely be looking forward to the sheet music; the song sounds awesome.

I *could* submit a recording of the performance, but...well, I doubt I'll be the one; I'm sure you could find someone better anyway.

The mock up it self sounds wonderful, I am thrilled about the life performance!

I may be able to play it, but it would take intense practice that I may not have the patience for.

Also, here's a preview for the sheet music.

Sorry for the watermark, but this ain't final and I want people to know it. I didn't compress it much, though.

That is an on-screen size. On the print size, the ad libtum parts are legible.

A cookie to anyone who can identify this part of the song.

Two cookies to anyone who can find the mistake.

Oh, and for the record, I could only figure out how to make Overture do "Ped." (down) and "*" (up) pedal marks, so that's what I used. Though I prefer the ______/________/ type.

I played through this in my head, then went to the piano, and well, it's exactly as I suspected: it's the ceremonial entry in the credits (when the Star Fox team walks up to General Pepper).

The mistake? hmmm, I'm currently looking for it. :?

edit: the only mistake I can see, as of now, is that there's a repeated note in measure 65; D is played by the left hand, and it's also shown as played by the right hand; an unnecessary repetition.

This is simply awesome, keep up the good work!

You are awesome, can I make such thing in Guitar Pro, or you used a special program for that one?

How much time does it took you? weeks, months...

I used a sequencer called Cubase to do the actual arrangement and make the mockup. I then exported that as a MIDI file and imported it into a program called Overture to create the score.

Other sequencers include: Fruity Loops, Reason, Logic, Sonar, Pro Tools (considered industry standard), Ableton Live, Traktion, and many others.

Other notation programs include: Finale (considered industry standard), Sibelius, Noteworthy, and others.

I'm not familiar with Guitar Pro, so I can't say if it has the same abilities as Cubase or Overture or not.

I haven't worked on it much last week. Too much school work. But this week is spring break, so I should have a proof copy ready sometime within the next few days. The proof copy will mainly be for finding errors.

After that, and after I can figure out Ghostscript, I will then create the final PDF of it.

Sorry to DP, but I bring good news:

Here's proofreading version #1 of the score:

Please note that this is a proofreading version and may contain errors. If you notice anything weird or wrong, let me know. Please print it to paper if you are going to proofread it. Some things may look different on-screen than on paper.

This is a PDF file. I chose that format because it isn't easy to edit (I have to protect myself some way). If you need a PDF viewer: http://www.adobe.com/

Note that this is formatted for US Letter size paper. According the GSView, it should be printable on A4 paper, but I can't guarantee that it will look right.

Thanks for posting! I'll have a look, and possibly play through a bit of it tonight/tomorrow; I'll let you know what I think. :o
