Since we are all fans of a bunch of anthropomorphic beings in another system, I thought this question would be appropriate.  Do you think we humans are alone in the universe, or not?

Of course not! I mean, sure the circumstances on Earth are hard to get, but knowing how HUGE the universe is, you'd think they're other life out there as well, right? The possibilities are endless!

My reasoning is the same as Chiro's.  The universe is bigger than a human can even comprehend, and our searching ability as far as other life-bearing planets goes is very limited compared to the vastness of the cosmos.

I think there's a theorem out there that proves, via statistics, that Earth can't be the only planet with life. I don't remember its name offhand.

Oh, and I believe in aliens. DEY COMIN 4 OUR COWZ! D:

I say yes, there are aliens out there. But not as teeming as the Star Wars universe for sure.

It's an equation absolutely chock full of assumptions, and it's not provable, so it's a baseless, non-scientific equation.

I guess it doesn't matter.  Even if they did exist, we're never going to find them.

Why do we have a universe if there's nothing in it but us?

Yeah, as with most "scientific" things these days, it's more assumption, postulation, and theorizing than actual science....

Anyway, why a universe with nothing but us? Simple; earth is unique.

So basically, the rest of the universe is useless, is that it?  If there is no life in it, its existence is seemingly pointless.

well, I'd go into detail as to why I think it's there, but, well, I don't think very many people, here, anyway, would like that.

aside from that, it's beautiful to look at; and something for us to explore, map, research, and learn from.

You're looking at it all wrong. The rest of the universe isn't useless, it's chock full of space into which we can explore and expand. Do you know what we could build if we had an Earth's worth of raw materials for a single construction project?

So everybody makes up all of these UFO sightings?

The Death Star?!?

The Orbital Space Station?!?

Some people are delusional, some people are insane, and some just want attention.

Also, I have no doubt that some "UFO's" are simply advanced government research programs being put into action; after all, the Germans first pioneered prop and jetless flights, and the vehicles they chose to use? You got it; disk shaped aircraft. None of their vehicles were a huge success, but they did manage to get a small saucer to float by putting spinning disk around the saucer; evidently the field generated caused a local anomaly in the magnetic field, and thus, the "anti-gravity". Of course, this is all the further they got; it could only support it's own weight, it had no propulsion, and it couldn't float very far off the ground.

And naturally, we took all the documents pertaining to the research after the war....and now we have tons of "UFO" sightings...coincidence? I don't think so; government research in action.

So, we're all alone.  That sucks.

I wish there was more to this universe than just these humans I see everyday...

Just because I don't want to break my brain, I just say that humans are the only ones to exist.

Nope. UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. By definition, UFOs are not alien spacecraft, because that would be identifying them. There are several hundred things that a UFO may be.

I get it.  No aliens.  I didn't think my hopes would be torn to shreds when I made this poll...

Perhaps I should stay stuck in reality.

Holy cow! I convinced someone of something... ON THE INTERNET?! This has literally never happened before. I would be speechless if I wasn't screaming.

So, uh, do you really not believe in aliens now?

It's hard to say.  Solely relying on what little we know about the universe, I can't say anything.  But the matter is not affecting me physically in any form or fashion, so I should not worry about it.

But part of me doesn't want to let go of it, either...

*sigh*

There is lots I could say about the book of Genesis and scientific opinion, but I would probably single-handedly get this thread locked.  Saying stuff in defense of one or the other is beyond the scope of this message board.

But as a Christian, I find it acceptable to believe in sentient life "out there" in the universe, aside from God and the angels.  But any other humanoids on other planets would have been created on Day 4.  Our human family was created on Day 6.

In addition, any extraterrestrial worlds would not be in the same <fecal explitive> dump we are in.  Lucifer was successful on Earth only, and Christ died for us only.

------------

Ugh, I've said too much already.

*braces for philosophical uproar*
