Sabre
Thanks to Nanogrrr, we now have the krystal model from assault. It was posted on the krystal archives here. http://krystalarchive.com/3d/starfoxassaultmodel/ I don't have 3DSMax or Maya, so have been trying to get the model working in blender. I managed to get the Maya model imported, easy peasy. However, blender hasn't read the textures, fur or rigging. As a result I have only a clay model. The detail on the model is good, with a surprising amount of detail on the mouth. Even has a tounge from what I can tell. Remember this is ripped right from the game. The eyes seem to be simple paint ons as you would expect, but the images dwi- Mr Krystal showed on his site seemed to show them as separate balls that could move about, which is strange as there are not even any holes for them. In fact, Mr Krystals still renders don't have the V shaped cut in the fount of the collar, which is very strange. It could be a lighting issue (the renders do look a little hasty) but it is weird. (Still renders? What were they before? ) If I ever get the textures in, I can start rigging, and maybe make a new set of fur. No promises on that one though. Any results I'll post, and ask Mr Krystal to host if I think surficiant progress is made. To Mr Krystal - Do you have the software for extracting the models? If so, any chance of the weapons from the game? EDIT- It seems a name/posting error explains many of the model differences, as well as some of the more unusual details. Though the correct model has been uploaded, the same problems with texture and rigging persist.
Sabre
Discovered a missing face on the base of the thumb which, while only taking a click to fix, is going to be a problem with the UV map. I'm not great with UV or textures in general to be honest. Alot of the blender documentation is down due to the release of a high profile blender film. Other then that, the texture is pretty much done... sort of. I converted the original from TGA to JPG, and the original UV works minus the problem above, and the thumb being on sideways. Strangly, while the texture appears correct in the 3D view, when renders, it goes back to being a mess, scattered all over the place. I'll have to wait until the official documentation is online. UPDATE- The texture alignment problem problem is fixed. Turns out the textures were using object coordinates rather then the UV ones for a rendered texture. Strange, but I can't believe I missed it. Need to sort out the thumb, teeth, and work out how to get the eyes working. I'll do that tomorrow though. UPDATE 2- Nanogrrr released an updated version. Other then a new default material and everything being better aligined, I didn't notice any majour upgrades, but onwards and upwards. Thumb fixed. Not perfect, but it's good enough. I don't think anyone will notice unless the have her doing a British Gas advert or something. All that's left to do now it the eyes. The discs pop out of her head when moved. I'm sure there is a way round this, and I'm sure it involves using alpha and Z transparnecy in some way. I have to work out a way of making the discs invisable unless veiwed through the the over the eye socket. That or it's there of special effects reasons. Sabre
Over a month since an update. I appolagize, but I'm back working on it full speed. Technically it could be ready to go within the a hour. I could throw in a basic skeliton, and release it furless for all you Blender based Krystal fans, but that would be lazy and half arsed. (hmm, the firefox spellcheck thinks arsed should be arched.) I am currently working on the rig. After some minour teething problems, it's going perfect. One problem I do have at the moment is the hips/upper theigh/arse. Having never rigged a woman before, or anyone in a tight jumpsuit, so it's all a bit of a mystery to me, so getting it to look good is tough going (advice welcome). I would make a joke about how staring at Krystal arse is slowing progress, but since I can't think of a good one atm, and the fact I'd like to rise above that kind of base humour, I'm not going to think of one. Doing the tail should be easy with tools designed for such a purpose, (hopefully that hasn't jinxed it) but I can't decide on the level of control to implement. :leon:

Sabre
Legs are finally weight painted and working properly. About bloody time too! These things took ages to get right, and combined with the little time I've worked on it (mainly due to anger and playing Supreme Commander) it's taken far longer then it should have. Hips are a bit dodgy, but other then that, champion. Hopfully the rest will go quicker. All I need to do is add some controls, and I can move onto the tail... or body... probley the tail as it's below the central mass. Sabre
Tail is mostly done. Only got to tweak the weights and then it is done. I think it could be better. Maybe when I get more experience I can redo it, but that time is not now though. Current setup is pretty cool. One ball controls to tip, the other controls the midpoint. It's a very flexable system that lets you pose the tail is 3d without moving each bone individually. My first attempt was to be all fancy and use a curve. It didn't work, and kind of broke it. I managed to get it working somewhat, but it was rubbish, and I could barely work it. I also got some clipping on the top of the thighs during extreme posing. Dunno where it's come from, what's causing it, or how to fix it. The ankle is fine, and iirc it has never gone wrong. So why are the thighs being a pain in the arse? I can't really cheat either as she is wearing that skintight cat suit, or should that be vixen suit? Anyway, anyone with more exp in rigging ladies/skin tight stuff help me out here? The odd glitches might be the same thing that Nanogrrr experienced when he ripped it. He said that some of the leg polys were extremely messed up. Maybe his fixes didn't all hold. As for rigging experience, talk to Little_Dragon. He works miracles.
Sabre
He said that some of the leg polys were extremely messed up. That might explain it. I have tried adding a groin bone to track the knee. This seems to stop the clipping, but the bone itself keeps twisting, making it look horrible. Currently trying to find a way to stop that. One strange thing about the leg, and other parts, is that the faces are not uniform, so there is the occational massive face. Nothing major, but still weird. Sabre
I'm starting to think this might be more hassle then it's worth. I do the left foot, everything is fine, I do the right foot in exactly the same way, it breaks. The data block shows no extra bones, no misnamed ones, nothing. I rig my own stuff no problem, but this throws a wobbler whenever anything moves. I posted a picture of the working setup without the controls on it, and it was fine. Now it squashes the foot. If the legs keep on acting up, then I might give in as there is no way I'm gonna take this kind of hassle when I'm doing he face. They are hard enough already. Have you tried removing all bones and down-converting the whole thing into a simple mesh? Starting from scratch like that should guarantee it works correctly. Sabre
Long time no update. Truth is I haven't been working on it. I am currently trying to get hold of a tutorial DVD for one of my other projects, so when (if) I manage to get it, I will hopfully be able to return at increased pace and quality. One thing I was doing was playing with light and glow effects, including this light sabre thingy. I used the Krystal model as something to test it on. Though you might want to see it. Mr. Krystal
Looks like you have normal surface smoothing turned off.
Sabre
Looks like you have normal surface smoothing turned off. Correct. She is also in the rest position, but I was just messing about and letting people know that this isn't dead, just broken until my skill increases. Update- Given up on rigging the model. I can't do it, hopfully someone else will.
