Rapidfire
Let's say the year is 1997. Star Fox 64 has just proven to be a great commercial success, but Nintendo isn't happy. Sony and Sega are deeply engaged with the company in a three-way contest for market dominance, and Nintendo isn't winning, so top executives are calling Shigeru Miyamoto away from the StarFox franchise to work on other big ticket games. He's left control of the series up to you, right after the release of the seminal game in the series. Given that power, how would you develop and direct the series from 1997 to now?I ask because, while many of us have expressed our thoughts of what the next game should be like, it's an entirely different proposition to consider having total creative reign over the entire series from essentially a blank slate. Remember, at this point there is no Panther, no Krystal, no Sauria, no terrible disease afflicting General Pepper--all that exists is whatever was established in the course of SF64. There are a number of avenues that the series could have taken at that point, and I wonder how radically different things could have been had one of those routes been traversed.Certainly the one thing I'd do if presented with this situation is absolutely insist that the franchise remain in-house; farming it out to second- or third-party developers would never have come up for consideration. Such a thought would be an aberration of good judgment. I might petition Imamura and Sakurai to stick with the original idea for the FireFox technique in the original Smash Bros., in which Fox spirals around as he goes and proclaims he's doing a barrel roll (who doesn't love goofy bits of fanservice?) Also, I'd probably also look for voice actors who are more experienced at the trade but not quite as...lifeless as the current set. While I certainly haven't minded the scores of late, they are a bit lacking; perhaps I'd seek out a new composer if I couldn't track down Hajime Hirasawa (who did the SNES score). I wouldn't see fit to put so much emphasis on time; Peppy doesn't need to age so conspicuously and I wouldn't write eight years out of the timeline with a single sentence in a manual. Most Nintendo franchises don't bother acknowledging chronology so overtly (Metroid being the exception). The most jarring thing I'd do differently, though, is not have Krystal. At the risk of inviting displeasure, I would do so because I do not find that she, as a character, brings much to the table. She's just...the token female, and I wouldn't bother creating a character that hasn't already had a rightful place in the series, which would go a little like so:[list type=decimal][*]The next project would put slightly more emphasis on free-range dogfighting, a la the SF64 mission on Katina. The story would be about Fox and friends ending up on some remote planet in the Lylat System currently undergoing civil war. One side contracts StarFox as allies, but a series of battles shows the intense cruelty of the side StarFox is on, and they have to decide whether they value morals over money or not; it would be slated for release as a launch title for the GameCube. No dinosaurs, no female counterparts, no Andross returning from the dead, not even any StarWolf; just classic Arwing shoot-'em-up.[*]The game to follow would be set for release later in the GameCube's life cycle, likely 2004/5. This would tilt back to some of 64's more notable elements: StarWolf, a choose-your-own-path course, on-rails fighting, etc. The mission settings would include an on-rails battle through a meteor shower, inimical flora coming to life as hazardous bioweapons on Fortuna, and a race against StarWolf through Sector Y lest they get to some important plot maguffin before you do. Co-op would be a necessity by this time. Largely, it'd have to be in as high and grand a style as we could get, pushing the Cube to its programming limits.[*]Following that, I'd push for a DS title for around 2006/7. This game would partake in much of the technical aspects of Command such as stylus control. I would be a little more expansive with the controls, perhaps, giving some opportunity to control the Arwing with the D-pad and buttons, but I wouldn't stray far from where Command went technically. More of the same game style of 64, and a sandbox type feature of just you and your wingmen against some obscene number of enemies for a bonus. Making use of the DS microphone would entail being able to give vocal orders, such as Barrel Roll, Somersault, U-turn, and different flying orders to your wingmen. So yeah, in what direction would you have taken the series post-64? Kursed
I would defintly focus on assault style with a equal amount of on rails and on foot missionssecondly i'd make better wingman like Freespace where they actually help you possibly even give them orders I'd bring back Fay and Miyu and possibly Fara Krystal would be in as fox'es Fiancee or wife. missions will let you select a charater for some while otheres require a certain character be playedMultiplayer characters will have diffrent skills ,but their health will be the same. Guest FoXXX
I would combine SF64 and Assault, would have mostly arwing missions with a few on foot missions, would have different mission paths, Fox, Krystal, Peppy, Falco, and Slippy would still be the SF team with no one else, of course have Bill, Katt, etc, but not on every mission. The game would be a lot harder, and Andross would be the final boss. I could probably think of more, but this is what the core of the game would be if I would be in charge, also SFC WOULD NOT BE CANON, I would kill Dylan Cuthbert so he would never make SFC btw I would like to go back in time to 1997 Kinda like how they did on Lost, for those who know :)
StarFoxIII
I would kill Dylan Cuthbert so he would never make SFC So would I, but I'd cut up Cuthbert's remains and hide them in assorted locations from the time. Diabolical murder plot aside (PM me for details, FoXXX), I'd do a sequel to Star Fox 64 that takes place between 64 & Adventures, which would involve a new threat to Lylat (Andross's ghost fled to Sauria, unbeknownst to Star Fox at the time), more vehicles in addition to the Arwing, Landmaster and Blue Marine, and an awesome multiplayer mode that's like Assault's multiplayer mode, with maybe a few other cool things in the 64/Adventures midquel. After allowing the developpers to make Adventures and Assault the way they are now, I'd make my own vision of how the events after Assault should've been in my opinion. Also, I'd have a Star Fox arcade game made.
DZComposer
This is still an "I'd like the next SF game to be..." type thread....http://forums.starfox-online.net/index.php?topic=3424.
