Chapter 16

As I slept that night, next to Misty in our room, I had what I though was a dream, at first.  I suddenly realized it wasn't a dream.  There, at the foot of my bed, was James McCloud, standing there.  I sat up, and he whispered "Keep quiet, Julius. I shouldn't be here, I mean that in more ways than one...Now listen...You guys are going into a trap.  You need to be most alert when you're done with your job.  Only when you defeat whom you don't expect to encounter here, will you be victorious.". 

I nodded, and tried to get out of bed without disturbing Misty, and that's when James headed out the door, into the corridor.  I followed him out of the room, and he turned a dark corner in the corridor, at the end farthest from me. I ran to that turn, but when I went around it, there was no one there.  What the hell? As I headed back to my room, I saw him again.  "HEY!"  I shouted.  "Hey!"  Todd stared at me. 

"Oh!  Todd....I could've sworn I saw..." I paused.  Todd, in his boxer shorts, said to me "You saw my uncle James, didn't you?  It wasn't a dream, if that's what you want to know.  I've seen him, my cousin's seen him...I saw him tonight, and I'm sure you did too. I heard you saw him when you were on Venom, during your exile." said Todd.

"Saw who?" asked Fox, coming into the corridor, wearing his pajamas.  Todd and I told him what we saw.  Fox nodded, and said "Better not to mention it, no one would believe us....even if they did, like, with Krystal or Tigress reading our minds, it's still not something we should talk about, not now anyways." he said. 

All three of us agreed on this.  We also discussed what James had told us, after seeing him tonight, and it turns out James McCloud told all three of us different versions of the same thing.  Fox told us just to take James advice to heart, but don't talk about seeing him to the others, this mission was the thing we should focus on, especially since we were on the last leg of it.

"Get some sleep, you two, and Julius, for crying out loud, PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!" Fox made a grossed out face, after staring at my body up and down, and shielding his eyes.  Todd laughed, and I said "Sorry, Fox." and we went back to our rooms.

We got up, ate, got our weapons and gear ready, and got into our fighters, those of us not in our fighters got into Todd's Malestrom.  We then headed down to Kew City, to the deluxe hotel where Shao Di Gong was now residing inside of.  We landed outside, in the parking lot, and Fox went over the plan with us. 

"Good work so far, team!  Shao Di Gong had been backed into a corner, and he can feel the noose tightening around his neck!  Now we got him right where we want him.

Julius!  Todd.  You two have volunteered to go in, Todd, you need to steal a security guard's disguise, Julius, get a chef's disguise.  Krystal has read the mind of Shao Di Gong, and has learned that he has placed the Gold Figurine into 1 of four safes in that hotel, although she's certain it was the safe in the security office downstairs. 

Shao has hired a professional bodyguard named Jindao.  He's this enormous Panda, who packs serious heat, and is always together with Shao.  Jindao sees and hears everything going on wherever he and his boss are.  He checks all the rooms, even tastes Shao's food for him to insure it's not poisoned.  Remember what Shao Di Gong looks like..."

Fox showed us a holographic projected picture, of an aging Chow-Chow dog, with a hideous six-inch scar running up the left side of his head and face.  We also saw Jindao, a huge, mean looking Panda in a red robe and black pants and sandals.

"Todd, Krystal has learned the safe combo from reading Shao's mind.  Once you're in the guard's quarters, Krystal will telepathically tel you the combo.  Julius, I recommend spiking Shao's food, but not with poison.  Leave your weapons, save your Fiber Wire, and your stun gun, which you can give to Todd."

Fox handed me a bottle of laxative.

"When Jindao tastes the food, he'll ingest the laxative, and run off to the toilet, leaving you with Shao.  They eat at the Hotel restaurant, in the back VIP area, and the guards protecting that area will search you for a weapon, using metal detectors, and your Fiber wire is the only thing that can get past a checkpoint like that.

You'll both need to create a diversion or two to get the disguises, and maybe another to carry out your objectives.  Be creative, but careful, and discreet.  Good luck!" Fox smiled at Todd and me.

Todd and I nodded, I left my weapons with Fox (except for my garrote, along with my Cratt Shultz style lock pick, which didn't trigger metal detectors) I handed my stun gun to Todd, and he and I headed inside the hotel...

We were in a beautiful, opulent lobby.  The inside of it, had waterfalls on faux rock and boulder landscapes.  There were fragrant plants, ponds with islands in the middle of them, one or two of those islands had a gazebo on them.  There were rivers under arched wooden and wide, curving stone bridges.  We saw glass elevators, with gilded trim, and these winding hallways, overlooking the lobby as they wound around like loggias.  There were Blood Moon gang members patrolling everywhere.

"Wow!" Todd and I said simultaneously.

We walked around, and looked at it all.  Todd nudged me "Let's get going." he said. I nodded.  We went into the bathroom, and found a locked door on the other end.  "STAFF ONLY", read a small sign next to it.  I picked the lock, and we sneaked into the hallway, and we walked down is, and found a door, which was also locked...I picked the lock, and we entered the room.  It was a locker room.  We found Security Guard Uniforms, Chef Uniforms, and other uniforms, in cabinets, on clothes racks, and in lockers.

Todd put on the guard uniform, and took my stun gun.  I put on a chef's uniform.  We put our clothes in a laundry bag.  We walked back into the lobby, and I saw Lola there.  "Here."  I handed her the laundry bag.  She took it, blew me and Todd a kiss, and then left with our clothes.

"I still got my laser pistol, but you're nearly unarmed.  Be careful, Julius."  Todd told me quietly as I headed for the kitchen.  I nodded.  I went into the kitchen, and made my way to the center of the room.  "Hey!  You!  New kid!" a chef said to me. I turned to him.  "Take this soup to Mr. Gong, before it gets cold!" the chef said to me.  I nodded, and took the soup.  When I was out of sight from the other staff, I poured the laxative into the soup.

I walked to the dining room, which had Blood Moon thugs everywhere, and towards the VIP area.  The two Blood Moon guards, armed with Laser Assault Rifles stopped me.  "We need to search you!" one of them said. He ran a metal detector wand up and down my body, and it didn't go off in alarm.  "Go on." the guard said.  I walked into the VIP dining room, and saw Shao Di Gong and Jindao sitting down, having just come down from the penthouse suite in the hotel.  Sure enough, Jindao was a ferocious large panda, and Shao was a mean looking Chow Chow dog, with the six inch scar on the left side of his face. 

Jindao had a deep, booming voice, and wore a red robe, with black pants and sandals.  Shao Di Gong wore a long, Chinese Emperor style, brocaded ornate black robe, and a raspy voice.

I walked up to their table, listening to their conversation.  "The racing hot rods I bet on are losing." complained Jindao.  "How many times do I have to tell you, quit pissing away your money at the hot rod races!?" asked Shao, irritably.  "Mr. Bancroft said to bet on Racer #8, he gave him an 18:1 odds ratio..." said Jindao.  "Tell Mr. Bancroft to go eat a steaming pile of crap!" snarled Shao.  "But he won a ton of money." replied Jindao.  "He won a ton of your money, Jindao.  Mr. Bancroft fixes those races." said Shao.  "Oh.  I'm gonna break his neck the next time we see that prick!" snarled Jindao.

Fortunately, the VIP room was only occupied by me, Jindao, and Shao Di Gong.  I served the soup.  Shao smiled and reached for it, but Jindao took it from him. "I'm hungry!" said Shao in protest, but Jindao said "I have to taste everything before you eat it, to make sure it's safe." he said, holding the soup bowl with one large hand.  He slurped down a portion of the soup.  "Mmm, delicious, I-ooohh!"  as Jindao spoke, a large rumbling noise came from his stomach.  I stepped back, behind Shao as he sat in his chair.

Jindao said to me "Don't move!".  I nodded, and Jindao left the room for the toilet.  After he left, the lights on this floor went out.  Todd had pulled the fuses, in the utility room, power fuse box, blanketing the whole first floor in darkness.  I took out my Garrote, and strangled Shao Di Gong, breaking his windpipe.

I dragged his body, across the VIP area and hid him behind a wooden panel screen.  I put away my Garrote, and sneaked out of the VIP and the dining room, and headed towards the lobby.  Julius, get out of there, Todd has successfully stolen the gold figurine, and he's waiting for you outside the service entrance, at the end of the staff corridor behind the lavatory you two were in earlier.  Hurry, a guard is fixing the fuse box Todd broke.  You won't have much time." Krystal told me.

I did just that.  I headed out into the parking lot, joined me friends, and changed back into my clothes.  We did it!  "Congratulations, you two!" said Fox.  "Good going!" said Falco.  "Excellent work!" said Krystal.  "Yipppee!" Slippy jumped up and gave Todd and me each a high five.  Misty hugged me, and we exchanged a deep kiss, Misty kicked back her foot as she kissed me.  Todd held up the golden figurine.  It was in the shape of a Z-Serpent from Zoness.  "COOL!" we all said. 

Todd handed Lola the golden figurine, and we all got into our ships.  As we took off into space, we piloted towards the Galatae.  "We'll take this back to Corneria, and melt it down.  That will guarantee the destruction of the Blood Moon." said Fox over the comm channel to us.  Three familiar voices and faces came over the communication channel, in our speakers, and on our screens.

"Can't let you do that, Star Fox!"

"The Blood Moon has hired us to take you down!"

"We're gonna reduce you to space dust, and snort you up afterward!"

Chapter 17

"We got company!" said Falco.  "That's 'We Have Company!  Grammar, Grammar! F!  See Me After Class Young Man!'..." Lola said, doing the perfect stuffy, debutante prep school teacher voice and accent.  We all laughed.  "I'll handle them!  Todd, get out of here NOW!  Slippy, Miyu, Edge, Fara, Fay, escort them back.  The rest of you fall in!  We're gonna take on Wolf!" said Fox.

"Oh, really, pup!?  You didn't think we came unprepared!?  Are you that stupid!?"  Wolf jeered over the comm channel.  "Compared to you, he's an astrophysicist!" I retorted back to Wolf.  "Shut up, Julius!" he snarled at me, and I replied "YOU SHUT UP!".  I fired a charged shot into him as I said this, and hit the lower left wing of his Wolfen, causing damage to him already.

"RRGH!" Wolf shouted.

"Heh heh...I'm gonna take my ninja star and shove your face through the little hole in the center of it!"  Leon said, firing at me.  I barrel rolled to deflect his shots.  Falco took Leon off of me by shooting a well placed charged shot into Leon's fuselage.  "Who do you think I am!?" Leon sneered.

Todd piloted the Malestrom away from the battle, Slippy, Miyu, Edge, Fara, and Fay escorted him in their fighters.

"Stop the Malestrom!  Todd's getting away with that gold figurine!"  A Blood Moon lieutenant appeared on the screen.  Several attack ships, Invader III surplus, no doubt, came flying towards us.  "We got to hold them off, and take out Star Wolf!" said Krystal.  "It's on, then!  Bring it, chumps!" shouted Falco.

The battle raged on...

"Remember, protect Todd and take out Star Wolf.  Target them primarily, but make sure you take out the Blood Moon soldiers too."

"We can't let them overwhelm the Malestrom or block its escape route!"

"Fara, Edge, Fay, Miyu and I will do our best to protect the Malestrom, Fox!"

Todd: "Good luck, Team!"

Misty: "Be careful, Julius!"

Fara: "Focus on Star Wolf, don't let the others distract you, if they attack, We'll fight them off."

Edge: "We got the Malestrom covered!"

As the battle raged on, I barrel rolled to deflect shots, and downed a few Blood Moon gang members.  I then had a realization.

Julius: "Guys!  We have to take out Star Wolf ASAP! Otherwise, this might become a battle of attrition!" I said, looking around at the arriving reinforcements of Blood Moon gang members.

"Brilliant, Jules!"

"Don't bother, we're gonna kick your tails!"

"Your efforts are noble, but futile my space jockey friends!"

I fired several charged shots, taking out more Blood Moon thugs, then I aimed for Wolf.

"Help!"

Krystal was being pursued by six Blood Moon ships.  "Damn..." I said, and chased after them.  One by one, I fired charged shots and several regular shots, and withing moments, saved Krystal. 

"Thanks Julius!"

Julius: "No prob'!"

I did an Immelman automatically, and sure enough, Panther's bomb missed me.

"Damn!"

"HA!  You suck, Panther!"

I turned and fired through a swarm of Blood Moon fighters, and aimed for Leon's ship. I fired a charged shot, but he barrel rolled, deflecting my shot.  I fired some more shots towards him, keeping on him.  It wasn't easy, his aerial maneuvers were VERY hard to keep on him.  With a little effort, I got him down to one third power with my shots. 

"Who do you think I am!?"

I pursued him, but then I had ten Blood Moon ships after me.  TEN!  Oh damn..I boosted ahead, barrel rolled, and did an Immelman when my boost power refilled.  I fired, hitting half of them, and destroying those half in minutes, but the others broke away, three of them still on my six as I flew towards Wolf.

They were shooting, damaging my ship, since I couldn't keep barrel rolling.  Something must have gone wrong with my G-Diffuser!  I managed to barrel roll some more, and the G-Diffuser kicked in, and deflected their shots, but I couldn't keep this up forever.  I did another Immelman, and then I took one of those guys out.  The other two got behind me and attacked me again, but Fox took them out.  "Thanks, Fox!" I said.  My shield was at half power. Damn!

I flew through the sliver rings left behind by some of the Blood Moon thugs I shot down, after they had shot at me.  I was at two thirds power now.  I saw Wolf chasing Akasha. 

Akasha: *growling* "Leave me alone!"

*making fun of Akasha*  "Ha!  Stupid cat! 'Lemme alone!'!  You have the most annoying whine I have ever heard!"

Julius: "Screw You, Wolf!"  I fired a Nova Bomb at Wolf's rear engine.  I missed!

Wolf had Immelman looped away.  But at least I got him off of Akasha's back.  But Kylie was right on him, firing shot after shot, depleting Wolf's shield.

Kylie: "Wolf, you stupid @#$%&, that's my cat you're talking to!  I'll kill you!"

"Make way for Katt!"

Katt fired several blasts past me, and hit Leon, who was sneaking up behind me.  She had been facing me, but then she passed me and pursued Leon as he Immelman looped, and she shot him down.

"Me!? ME!?"

Falco launched a Nova Bomb into Panther's fuselage, and down he went.

"How can this be!?  I've been..."

Tigress: "Yeah, yeah, piss off Panther.  Hey, we got the other fighters on the run!"

We had cleared out the quadrant.  The Blood Moon gang members were gone now, those who weren't blasted were fleeing.

But where did Wolf go?

"BOO!"

Wolf came at my right side, and fired a Nova Bomb into my fuselage.  I Barrel Rolled, but to no avail.  The bomb blast impacted my Arwing by damaging it to shield level 8%.  Oh shoot!  My cabin lit up with warning lights, and warning buzzes from my instruments.    My right arm wasn't working!  I couldn't feel my right arm!

Julius: "AHHHH!  @#$%, @#&*, AHHH!"

I chased after Wolf, and fired one charged shot after another at him.  I was enraged, furious.  Everything went to a red, blurry tinge with me.  I kept on Wolf, who apparently underestimated me.  I looped to avoid his attacks, and successfully did so.  We circled each other in a vicious dogfight, and I hit the brakes, as Wolf passed me.

I came at Wolf, head to head as he circled around me again, and fired a stream of shots at him.  As he tried to flee, he looped, I braked again, and looped.  I had him ahead of me in a few minutes, and fired a charged shot.

*BOOM!*

"I can't believe I'd get beat!"

Julius: "Believe it, mother ****er!  I beat you with just one arm!"

As I said this, I flew past Wolf's Wolfen, we could see each other through our canopies, and I pointed to my limp right arm, with my left hand, and then I flipped Wolf the finger with my left hand after taunting him over the comm channel.  Wolf slapped his palm to his face.

"WOW!  Julius, Damn!" 

"Nice Job, Julius, I'm impressed!"

"Nice work, Julius!"

"Way to go, Julius!"

Akasha: "Are you okay, Julius?  What did you mean by 'one arm?'..."

Tigress: "Good going, kid!"

Kylie: "Cheers, Julius!"

Julius: "Thanks, guys...I...can't feel my right arm..."

We were back in the hangar of the Galatae.  Tigress lifted me out of my damaged Arwing. Misty ran up to us, and saw how messed up I was, the bruises, cuts, blood, my arm.

"Holy s***!  Lookit his arm!" yelled Todd.  "Shut up, Todd!" Tigress growled at Todd, as she lay me on the stretcher.  "What's wrong with my arm!?" I asked in a panic. "Your arm's fine." Misty reassured me.  "But the rest of you is facing the wrong way!" Slippy declared.  "WHHHAAAT!?" I screamed, and Tigress swiped at Slippy.  "Shut up, Toad!" she shouted at Slippy.

"Your arm is dislocated, that's all." said Fay.  "What do we do?" I asked.  Fara checked me out, and said "Well, in my opinion, Julius, all you need is a good thirty c c 's of -GRAB HIM!" she shouted to Tigress and Fay, and as I lay on the stretcher, they grabbed my arm and body, popping my dislocated shoulder back into place

*POP!*  *CRACK!*

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"You're welcome!" Tigress said sarcastically.

Chapter 18

I thanked my teammates for their concern, and I especially thanked Misty for caring, Tigress, Fara, and Fay for popping my shoulder back into place, Fox for saving me, and Slippy, Akasha, and Tigress as they helped me fix my Arwing.

"It was the least I could do, considering you got Wolf off my back." said Akasha.  Krystal, and Kylie thanked me for that especially, as did they, along with Akasha, thank me for saving Krystal.  I helped fix all the fighters that took damage during our battle.  It helped pass the time on our way home, and I learned a lot about mechanics, maintenance, and repairs on the Arwings and Aritech fighters.

When we arrived back at McCloud Ranch to dry dock, Todd and Fox took the golden figurine to a foundry to be melted down and sold off, and the rest of us got settled in.  "I'm gonna go to my house and clean it up, after that party." I said.  "I'll come too...can you wait for me?" asked Misty. "How long you gonna be?" I asked.  "Well, there's this TV program that I, Lola, and the others wanna see...you can watch it with us if you want." Misty said, smiling at me as I held her in my arms. 

"It's an hour long." Lola said, passing us in the corridor. "Thanks just the same, but you and the others can enjoy it, I wanna see my house, get a head start on cleaning it, you can join me when your TV show's done." I said.  "Okay." said Misty.

I headed towards my house....I left my Arwing at McCloud Ranch, and I took my car.  When I got to my house, I saw it was on fire!

"What the HELL!?" I shouted, getting out.

I took cover as my house exploded in a final burst of flames, and the shed out in front, along with the house and the fence, burned to nothing but ashes.

I walked up to the smoldering ruins.

"Such a tragic loss." a sarcastic, sneering voice behind me said.  I turned around to see Danny, Joey, Tony, Freddie, and Luther Foxglove, Lola's brothers, standing there with fuel canisters.  I had recognized them all, by either meeting them in person in the past, or from  the computer files Todd and Lola had shown me of not only the Foxglove Crime Family, but also the "Corneria Nostra" crime families network. 

"Dat's what happens when you tattle on us..." Joey said, throwing a fuel canister at me.  I successfully ducked what he threw at me, and flipped him and his brothers the middle fingers with both hands.  "I never said a word." I said.  "I know, you let the psychics pick your brain, which is just as bad!  You got your little friends to trick Joey into talkin'..." said Danny.  "...and now you're gonna pay!" Freddie jeered.  "...you cost us the warheads, and what profit we coulda turned from 'em." said Luther. 

Lola's brothers advanced on me.  I used what unarmed combat I knew to fight them off, for a least ten minutes, but being outnumbered five to one, and with one of your opponents being as big and strong as Joey, it wasn't easy for me to keep it up. Joey stuck me with a two fist-ed sledgehammer punch.

"OOOFFF!"

I fell to the ground, and Joey lifted me up from behind, and pinned my arms behind me as Lola's brothers took turns punching me.

"Let him go!"

The boys turned to see Misty, holding her hyper laser sub-machine gun, pointing it at Lola's brothers.  "Oh, having a girl fight your battles for you, Julius?  Some man you are!" sneered Danny.  "She's not alone!"  Todd said, aiming his hyper laser assault rifle, as he stood next to Misty.  "That's right!" said Pal.  He had his laser pistol held at the ready.

Tigress, Akasha, Kylie, Krystal, Fox, Falco, Slippy, All of them showed up, armed with their weapons.  "You mess with Julius, you mess with us!" said Falco, aiming his sniper rifle at the Foxglove brothers.  Lola showed up,, strutting up to her brothers.  "What, did you all come here on a bus!?" Freddie asked irritably.

"No, The Malestrom.  Although Tigress, Krystal, Akasha, Kylie, Fox, Falco, Slippy, Fara, Fay, and Miyu used their Aritech fighters or their Arwings" Lola said.  "Well, this is between Julius and us!" Danny sneered.  "Not anymore it isn't" Lola declared.  She turned and glared at her brothers.  "Do what Misty said, and let him go!" she snarled at her brothers.  Wow!  Lola could be frighteningly fierce!  I never saw her get so mad before...

"I'm telling mom who broke her telescope in the observatory of our mansion, and I'll tell daddy who broke his astrolabe in his study!  Also, they'll know who put that dent in the limo door opening it too fast, who clogged the toilet in the master bathroom, or who broke the window in the belfry!" Lola said, looking from Danny, to Joey, to each of the rest of her brothers as she listed the secret crime of each brother.

Lola's brothers hung their heads in shame.  "I'll be quiet about what you've done, if you leave Julius alone!" Lola said.  "Okay...but just don't tell mom and dad, or anyone else.  None of you, in fact!"  Danny said, looking at the rest of us.  We said we wouldn't, and Lola's brothers promised to leave me alone, all of us alone, in fact.

"But what about Julius' house!?  You burned it down!" Fox said to Lola's brothers.  "I got insurance, Fox." I said.  "Duh, yeah, we was gonna trash it, but it looked like someone beat us to the job." commented Joey, as he and his brothers piled into their limo.  They left, and Todd said to me "You and Misty can stay with me and Lola until you get things back to square one." he said to me.

"Thank you...all of you..." I said.

"We saw the smoke, on the way back from the foundry, and called ahead to McCloud Ranch." said Fox.  "I appreciate it, and thank you, Todd, for letting me crash with you."  I replied.  Let's go..." Todd said.  Misty got into the car with me, and we drove to McCloud Hall.  Todd and Lola met us there, and we got settled in.  Todd and Lola picked up Misty's and my stuff at the loft, and we unpacked it and settled into one of the guest suites.

The next day, we got a call from Fox.  "Get ready!  Fara Phoenix's dad has a job for us!" he said.  "We're on it, cuz!" said Todd.  We got packed, ready, and headed to McCloud Ranch.
