How do you like to see Krystal portrayed?

Showtime 1-1

Well, I got around to reading that "echoes of the future" or whatever that fanfic is called. You know the one I'm talking about, which takes place right after Adventures. It was entertaining, but I just couldn't read the whole thing because of the way Fox and Krystal's relationship was portrayed. It just seemed kinda... off, I guess. No offense against the author, but I didn't like it very much.

I narrowed the reason down to the fact that Fox was like a teenage pushover, falling head-over-heels for Krystal, and Krystal was like the stereotypical girl-in-love; so very sensitive.

Personally, I like to think of Krystal as a self-strong, confident, stubborn warrior-type with nowhere really to go. She doesn't have problems with kicking butt and blowing creatures to little bits, and the Starfox team doesn't give her any new experiences so much as it just gives her some direction.

I guess that's why I like to see pics like this:

I just don't like to see such a great character fall into the same old damsel-in-distress mold. Anybody else here with me?

yeah I have to agree with you there ,but addition things here Krystal while also being one of those girls who can kick butt also cares about her friends. she was only in the damsel in distress mold Once while on Sauria she should really never be in that spot again because honestly if she can fight a 50 foot aparoid on foot(See assault during the aparoid homworld mission) she can handle her self

The thing about the whole "getting-trapped-in-a-giant-crystal" ordeal is that you can tell she was jolly pissed off about it. Even then, she wasn't exactly Snow White. ;)

I don't think that monster was even trying to attack her, who would? :)

Probably my biggest beef with the way Krystal is currently portrayed is that she always seems to have to have some sort of man to validate her, whether it's Fox or Panther. One might argue that Kursed was her becoming independent, but the whole reason for it was because she overreacted to something Fox did and got ridiculed for it.

Can we picture Fox without a girlfriend? Yes we can. He didn't have one for two games.

Can we picture Krystal without a boyfriend? Only when she's emo and regretting what she did to her former boyfriend.

Another thing I'd like to see with Krystal, and I'll probably get a little crap for this, is her actually -doing- something. Although she's a telepath, none of the information she relays is ever useful. "Look out! Someone's waiting for us!" Gee...there's a closed door on a planet that renegades fled to. I wonder if they're behind that door. Don't need a psychic to tell us that. And while it's a good way to build the mood, Krystal's telling us of the Aparoid Queen's emotions wasn't particularly useful either.

Arguably, we could say that hearing the distress call from Sauria was useful, and to some extent it was, but it resulted in the near-destruction of Corneria while Fox and company were occupied saving, of all people, Tricky. *Shudder.*

Even in combat, Krystal's pretty worthless. In Assault, she's as good as Slippy. No more, no less. Everyone in that game who isn't Fox is useless and simply decreases your kill count a bit if you leave them alone long enough. In Command, Krystal's best ability is her twin lasers, which can do some damage, but don't compare to the more specialized ships such as the Cat's Paw and Sky Bunny.

In all, I think that Krystal is one of the few characters that fanfiction writers can portray better than the original source. I'd love to see her kick some rear and get over her emotional problems. Keep her on StarFox, but stop the romance between her and Fox, I say. Probably not exactly popular opinions, but I figured I'd get those out there.

While I agree that they need to get on with their lives and bury the hatchet, I don't think a romantic relationship is necessarily important. Fox and Falco aren't in a romantic relationship and they get along just fine, even if they give each other crap at times. I guess I'd prefer to just see Krystal as a member of the team and a friend of Fox's instead of having to be in love with him. Love causes complications and tends to separate friends to some extent. Friendship allows closeness without all the hormones.

So your saying Fox needs to be Gay?? Of course they get along well THEIR BOTH MEN Krystal is a girl so it's natural theres going to be a few knots ,but they need to work out those 'knots'

No. I'm saying he doesn't need to have any form of sexuality. He's friends with Falco, not boyfriends. He could be friends with Krystal in the same way.

Incidentally, it's entirely possible to have a simple friendly relationship between the opposite sexes. Just because Fox is male and Krystal is female doesn't mean they automatically need to become lovers or hate each other.

I beg to differ. (Cept on the hate part.)Fox saved Krystal after all why wouldn't she like him?

"Like" and "love" are two different things. Besides, if you base your love on being indebted to someone, then there isn't equality there. "You saved my life" is a reason for gratitude, but if it turns into a reason for love, then she'll be nothing but an attached puppy holding onto his leg. Fox may be fairly modest, but he will always have that over her until she saves his life in a similar fashion.

If you beg to differ  that a man and a woman can't simply have a friendship, please give your reasons why. I've seen it happen, and I have several opposite-sex friends I hang out with on a regular basis without any feelings of awkwardness or lust. That's only an anecdote from my  perspective, of course, and doesn't generate any real data, but it shows that it's possible to have a simple friendship between two opposite-sex people without romantic attraction.

krystal and Fox have feelings for each other and krystal being a telepath only complicates the problem. I personaly think the romance is Realistic although Command took it too far.

Those two do complicate the problem, yes, but this topic is about how you would like to see Krystal portrayed. My point was that I'd like to see her portrayed without having to be attached to Fox. Be her own person: A contributing member of the StarFox team and a friend to those in it.

As things stand, though, I do agree that it's pretty much impossible for them to have a normal friendship canonically. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that are canon that I don't like, but that can't be changed.

Also, I never said romance wasn't realistic. It actually looks very likely. All I was saying is that it's undesirable to me, and I'd prefer if Krystal weren't attached to anyone.

The Great Fox is pretty big. They can visit each other just fine, but there's plenty of room. :P

I explained it before, but it seems that Krystal always seems portrayed in relation to a man, whether it's Fox or Panther. It's really hard to picture her just by herself, because we haven't seen her just by herself much other than in the beginning of Adventures, and that was a very short period of time. For all the exposure we've had to her, do we really know Krystal as a person?

(*crawls out from behind hiding box*)

right, so we've decided that her character should be expanded past the token female figure. She's now a mercenary too, so cut the mushy romance stuff.

I would like to see one of those "relationship-via-denial" situations between Fox and Krystal, where both just try to get on with the missions and try to deny the connection between themselves, but everything falls into place anyways. That'd be cute. It would also add another layer to both characters, showing the difference between how they act and how they really feel. (It seems I keep going back the the "they're supposed to be cold-hearted mercenaries" thought line...)

But then again, there is only so much dexterity to the relationship that you can ask for out of a video game.

yeah well the term mercenary appears to hold alot more value than it does in starfox than anything else as usually bounty hunters and Mercenaries are considere low life scum no matter what side their on.

How would I like to se Krystal portrayed?

>=]

How about...

She's wearing a white, full length, halter dress...

she stands over a subway grate, and the breeze blows her skirt up around her,

exposing her underwear, and she pushes her skirt back down. :P (j/k)

Interestingly enough, we've already seen half of that "relationship-via-denial" situation in Assault. Krystal was pretty forward, but Fox kept denying the situation.

No, no...I was joking about wanting to see Krystal as a Marilyn Monroe sex symbol.
