The "Holy Grail" of Star Fox

I'm curious as to what your take on what the "Holy Grail of Star Fox" is.

And I don't mean it in the Monty Python way. (Five is right out!)

As an example, there was a genuine "Holy Grail" in the fanbase prior to the Great Exodus. It was the Japanese Itoh comic. Rumors of it's existence persist to this day, yet no English-speaker has yet to either produce it or provide positive proof of it's existence. That's not to say no one tried. Many spent many long hours trawling Japanese fansites in search of it. Yes, I was one of them.

Supposedly, it was sold as a stand-alone Manga, and was not colored. It allegedly followed the same basic story of the Nintendo Power Itoh Comic, but went deeper into some elements of the story, in particular the relationship between Fox and Fara. The supposedly even got engaged.

Sadly, the only thing anyone ever found that Itoh work on in Japan was a quick-reference of sorts that had information about all of the enemies in SFSNES. Of course, Hoshikitsunuki (I think that's what she calls herself now :nervous: ) at AL has a copy of it  . I tell you, what would be more fascinating to me would be a list of SF stuff that she DOESN'T have, lol. Seriously, I think she has the larges Star Fox collection in the world (she posted a pic here when she stopped by one time: http://forums.starfox-online.net/index.php?topic=2502.msg110050#msg110050 ). You can view scans here: http://www.arwinglanding.net/starfox/index.php?page=mfp

As for my SF grail, I suppose I would still say the Japanese Itoh comic. Either that or an authentic Super Famicom SF2 dev cart.

So, what is your "Holy Grail" of Star Fox?

It's a metaphor. It means something you seek, but you haven't ever found, and it is possible that it doesn't even exist. Just like the Holy Grail itself (they didn't even find it in the MP movie).

Though for this thread I will accept a "really really want" of something that exists. Though at least try to make it something rare.

IE, I would prefer you don't ask for a game watch, as you can get one off of ebay easily.

And don't ask for a SF64 cart. Those things are too easy to find.

Star Fox Wii? :nervous:

lol, I guess I can count that as there are rumors of it's existence. XD

BTW, I don't mean things like "SFC with better Story." It has to be something that has a chance to exist.

The "Holy Grail" was one of the many legends that appeared during the middle ages. Say, much like Excalibur, the one who could find it would gain fame, power, and glory.

-BUT- consider that it was a legend, and DZ refers to the Itoh comic as the "Holy Grail" of Star Fox, I think that chances are it might not exist at all... Maybe it was something Nintendo planned to do but never actually came into existence, -OR- maybe it exists, but it was sold in very limited numbers to the point that it might now be, much like the "Holy Grail" lost forever... Or maybe not. Try going more to large-scale conventions. Say, I never believed that a military version of Battlezone (maybe you heard of it) until I went to a convention and I saw it with my own eyes...

What about Star Fox 2 for the SNES, or Virtual Console?

As for my SF grail, I suppose I would still say the Japanese Itoh comic.

BTW, it was understood at starfox.org/lylat.net that whomever found the Japanese Itoh Comic would be the God of the Internet.

I won't lie, I sometimes dream of finding it and making it an SFO-exclusive piece of content that no one else has (Wathermarked PDF  ).

Yeah.  That would be awesome  :D

You and me both.  I, and my friend Russell, even with his connections, have yet to find it.

Regarding the Itoh comic, the rumor I heard was that some guy got a copy in a run-down store in Japan. Maybe this is the place to look at  -but you have to go to Japan, undestand Japanesse clearly and find those small comic stores... And there are many of them. From my prespective, you will have to search through entire Japan before adquiring it if it actually exists...

As for the SF2 Cart, the number of Betas leaked show clearly that it was never made a reality... Although maybe, among one of Nintendo´s depots, you might find one of them... But I doubt it.

Russell searched Japan for it once.  He heard a similar rumor.  He tracked down a dude in Odori Park in Saporro, Japan, but it turns out the guy there didn't have it, he (the Odori Park guy) was looking for it too...Russell also heard a rich guy in Tokyo was offering a 50 Million Yen reward for that Itoh comic. (approx. $250,000)

Maybe we should try to look for real facts and not that much for rumours. Say, there we should try to link up some things, and then try check if rumors are true...

Thanks, Kursed!

Yeah, a Krystal plushie would be cute! <3

Star Fox Wii would rock!

Russell and Moe told me they heard a rumor that a Yakuza kingpin in Osaka is also searching all over Japan for the Itoh comic (in his spare time).  Might not be true...

just tellin' ya' what I heard.   this guy is kinda offering the reward as an "under the table deal".  it's not altogether impossible, it is well sought after.  Japan is a pretty intense/excessive place.

I did not seem to explain very clearly. Take the role of a scientist or a private investigator. You start with the idea, your main goal, no initial evidence -but- some real facts... And your theory. I mean, if the comic actually exists, someone had to publish it; someone else to distribute it, ect. A relatively-high-level Nintendo contact would also help, if you ask me.

I mean, we have the theory; the Itoh Comic. But now we should try to link up the facts. Come on, also there had to be a commisioner for it, I mean, the guy who handed the money and made sure copyrights went to Nintendo. There are a few other guys/gals as well who might have some answers, or clues if you want to call them that way. But like I said, unless you try to work your way in the material world, chances are a theory will remain a theory...

Oh...

Well, sorry to piss you off or make you hate me.  :(  Maybe it is just a rumor, since Russell told me that the guy he tracked to Odori Park had told him this rumor, but he wasn't 100% sure.  That Odori Park guy seemed a little...spacey (no pun intended).

As for the Yakuza kingpin in Osaka after it, I think that was mainly Moe jerking our chains (mine and Russell's)

If the comic is still out there, if it's ever found, it's a needle in a haystack

What?, do not worry about it, -I- though I had angered you... Sorry if so.

But like I said, we should try to get info from Nintendo... Unless somebody knows someone from there... Anyone here works for the C.I.A. or the K.G.B.?

no, it's okay.  I shouldn't take things the wrong way

(sorry, I've been under excessive amounts of stress)

I tried searching via Google for Mr. Itoh, and that comic...

but nothing came up that I didn't already know, or held any solid foundation, sadly.

As for the Krystal Plushie, I been trying to find one of those for

Russell's sister, but so far no dice.

  I can't even find unlicensed Krystal plushies.

Damn... This is the kind of mystery where a lone guys is murdered in middle of nowhere, has no family or friends and nobody knows him... You know, finding the murderer is a HARD thing to do... if you get my point. But we should keep searching... eventually someone would come up with something... I hope.

Yeah...btw, DRL, I'm sorry for overreacting, I just been under a blindingly high amount of stress lately.

I'm hoping to one day find

-the Itoh comic (highly unlikely)

-Star Fox II for VC (unlikely)

-a [licensed] Krystal plushie or figurine (dunno)

No problem about that, I am too now in a difficult situation. And I do not know if things will go according to plan (and if they do not, the result will be really bad).

As for the rare items, again it just a rumor, but I heard there was a SF for the N64 with foot misions... Aparently an Alpha, scratched before it came to anything.
