Sorry, not going to happen. While I'm sure there are lots of great ideas with large potential out there, the odds that a single person can make a game good enough to compete with what the game industry giants churn out is microscopic.

If you're interested in hearing more about game developement, I think you should ask Mr. Krystal, which is getting an education at that field.

Wait, ask a college to make a game for you and then sell it to them?

I don't know if people have noticed, but Matt Macdowel, you have to brush up on your grammar a little. It bothers me a lot, and I'm a little of a grammar nazi. Most internet browsers have spell check now so illiteracy is not optional. I don't want to sound like a dick ether, but it bothers me much!

Responding to your question:

If YOU make the game at college or whatever, sure you can make a lot. Game programming is really tough, and to do it all by yourself is a pain in the ass. Trust me, been there, done that.

Mr. K is going to Digipen. https://www.digipen.edu/ They have a well-known game design school there. Apparently, they share some building space with Nintendo.

If you have specific questions about it, ask Mr. K.

In short, no.

In long, if you want to get paid for making games, you need effort and luck. Some put the effort in, but never have any luck. Some are very lucky and have contacts and education dropped at there feet, but they can't be arsed.

On Digipen, it's the same piss that every other college spurts out. Everyone believes theres is special, the best, ect ect ect. It's all bollocks.

However, if your just in games to make money, then a pox on you. I believe games are an artistic medium, so all these commitee designed pieces of crap are against my own beliefs. That rant is to long and more complecated then this post would allow without a derail.

Likely not. You most likely have to be enrolled as a student or in one of their summer camps to get any help from them. Another thing to note is that one of the criticisms of Digipen is that they make you sign over to them the copyrights to any games you make during your coursework there.

Matt. I'll be honest with you. I can not judge you of what you know and what you don't know because I don't know you. I barely have any info. on what your grades are and if you were to do well in computer programming, designs and other stuff. All I do know is that I have taken computer programming and it is hard. You need to be able to have a very creative mind and also be able to memorize many, many commands like "if, put, and, elsif, else, loop" etc. I respect your goal to become a video game maker/designer but just to let you know ahead that it will be quite hard. At least for me it was.

I've seen many people here on the internet going "I will be a game developer!" and stuff like, the truth is, making a game, on a console magnitude, is one of the most complex tasks ever. You need a lot of teams, working head to head to create something that will appeal to others, you can't create a game just because you "have an awesome idea" . If your idea doesn't appeal to the crowd, then you are up to see some red numbers. You need to know what the market needs, and most importantly, you need to be original, which is really hard right now.

Everything has a beginning, so, if you are REALLY interested on being a game developer, then start with the most basic stuff, which would be flash games, see if you like that first , and do it as a hobby for now, since this is really an elite profession. You either need a lot of contacts, or be "hot stuff" on making games to go to the big leagues. Or do something that could take you into that path one day, but it won't take you into a solo path, like software engineering or overall programmer.

So the game company is going to use your idea and pay for everything without you paying a cent?

It doesn't work like that. *Insert facepalm here

Still, you should be carefull about that. Nobody does anything free unless it is charity or a really simple thing... but if it is a game there is certainly small letters in the contract...

What I meant was that if you do ask the collegue, and the accept, chances are they have something in mind. Say, like holding the copyright (which effectively makes them the owner of said game) and if that happens they will like say "thanks for the idea!" and show you the door...

I'm sorry to pop your bubble, but reality is calling, you should answer. Really, get back to earth dude, if it was that easy, then we would all have our dream games already.

Like I (tried to) said before things are not as easy as they sound; it is easy to say: "Yeah, I will make my own game!". Now, comes the hard part, which is actually making it. I mean, you must have a relatively good knowledge of some coding language, make graphics, sounds, ect. I think it is too much for a single person to do, unless it is a relatively simple game or you have a good deal of experience...

Not to mention you have to organize staff, and bills, etc. for your company. You know, financial things normally your parents would do. You also have to commercialize, and rent a place for your business to take place. Are you ready for that?

I'm seeing a paturn. Matt. Why did you make this topic at all. When anyone gives you the information, you don't like it and claim you can do, when people smash that you claim something similar.

They are not the same thing.

The reason a school may fix your car with free labor is because the students need cars to work on. They can't make cars appear out of their asses. Note that they won't give you free parts. There is no "Auto Parts Fairy" that fills trade school part racks with free parts. Parts cost money, and they won't buy parts just to give them away. Many schools even make you bring your own parts.

Video games are intangible assets. What that means is that they are not physical things, but rather collections of computer code that represent ideas. You can get your team together in a brainstorming meeting and make up a game idea. That's a fancy way of saying they can pull a game idea out of their asses. There is no need for an external source of ideas.

Colleges like Digipen are more than willing to help you create games, provided you pay tuition, go to class, and sign over the rights to any games you make in the course of your studies.

They don't need external ideas like mechanic schools need external cars.

If you want to form your own company, great. Just realize something: No one else works for free.
