To render... I need?

Guest DRL

What?... Okay, sorry for the poor title, thread titles are not my strong point, I suppose...

Well, I have been thinking about doing random stuff with the Star Fox renders out there,

but hey, looks like I am lacking a few things (besides skill...).

What I want to know now is what I need, and how, to be able to modify

these renders. Of course I am aware of the fact that I need renders,

What I mean is:

What programs do you recommend?

How much time do you think a something like changing clothes

will take?

What about renders, what ones do you like the most/recommend?

...And anything else which you think is important, please tell me.

I'll assume you're thinking of the same kind of rendering as I'm doing.

In which case, you're pretty much stuck basing most of your work on Charleyfox's and Little Dragons Krystal model. Not that it is anything wrong with that. It's pretty much my favorite anthro model available, both for free and for a hefty fee. And as you can see in my DA gallery, its very versatile and adaptable.

But first of, you'll need the basic software to be able to create scenes and render them. I'm using Poser, which I got as a gift. Daz Studio however is about as good, and the basic version is free.

Click on: "New to 3D Start here", and you'll be presented with a number of options on what to do. Go trough the steps, learn how it basically works, play around a little and get familiar with the program.

Then, you'll want to go straight for the Krystal model. All releases, news, and a couple of tricks are in this thread.

You'll have plenty of stuff on your plate only with the official releases. Stick to that untill you start to feel familiar with the program, and want to start experiment a little more. Then come back to me, and I'll give you some feedback on how to improve, and take you to the next level with conforming objects not made for her to fit the model.

If you want to do this well, spend a month or two learning how and why computers are able to make the images at the lowest level. Doing so will give you an intuitive understanding of 3D graphics, which will allow you to do pretty much anything you would ever want to do.

I don't use it much, but I'll have to agree that you should probably go with DAZ 3D, just watch a few of the tutorials on YouTube and you should be posing and rendering in no time.

...Thank you, I will defiently try that.

I have heard good things about both

programs.

...O-Kay, I will try that too.

...

Another reason I want to make renders is because I want to port my...

2D ship collection into 3D. I like in 2D, but I want to be

able to admire it (and expand/modify it) in 3D.

As for programs, I think I am going to try and get both.

I think that I am going to start with DAZ Studio 3D.

I'm using Poser, which I got as a gift.

...Well, I was given as a gift a copy of Milkshape 3D, but

somehow I felt as if the program is lacking something...

but maybe it is just me. However it came with no tutorials,

which also left me in the "you have the tools, but do not know

how to use them..." situation.

Oh, you're talking about actually starting modelling? Now that's a totally different game.

Here, I'd advice you giving Blender a go. I've used it on a few ocasions, and it's among the best free 3D modeeling programs out there. It's more difficult to learn than Milkshape, but more versatile and powerfull once you get the hang of it.

I agree. Blender can do some bad-ass stuff, and it's open source to boot.

Blender did this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lone_House.jpg

And this: http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/ (Impressive fur shading. It actually looks more like hair than grass!)

It does have a learning curve, though. It's UI can be a bit daunting.

Um, well...

I have been practicing how to use Blender during

this weekend. I mean, just the basics, but I think

I am getting the hang of it...

I made 3 things so far. One is a tutorial, and the

2 others were attempts to create a 3D version

of the Black Sov. Ship in my avatar...

(And yeah, I know that it sucks and it is not

correctly proportioned... But still...)

Good job! It reminds me of the original Starfox, with all the polygons :D

Thanks!... Well, if you ask me,

I like the first attempt the most,

even through it has fewer polygons.

That's a nice start DRL. I'm sure you'll start getting the hang of it soon.

Thank you!...

Well, I was playing with the resizing tool

and a sphere and I came out with an idea

for a UFO... If I have the time to do it,

then I will post it here as soon as it is

finished.

Here they are! It did not come out as expected...

But it was fun anyaways.

I tried texturing them, this is the result:
