About the Wolfen II's

Am I the only starfox fan who thought that these ships were really ugly? I just don't like the way they're designed, to me they're really squat and short. The designers went verboard with them and there's much to be desired.

I liked the Wolfens, but the Wolfen II's, to me, were a sad attempt at an awesome makeover. The designers went overboard with them and there's much left to be desired.

Look at a Wolfen and a Wolfen II side by side and tell me with a straight face that the II is better. :D

Yes you are. How is the wolfen II Ugly? I mena, any wolfen is great looking.

you ight not be the only one that hates it, but the majority loeves it.

I'll admit it could be a lot better-less random cumbersome pointy things- but I wouldn't say it's repulsive. It's quite similar to the Wolfen in many ways. Nor is it exaclty a beautiful design, but it's tolerable.

I still disagree, you didn't really give me much of a reason to change my mind either... :x

Oh no, it's tolerable, I just never quite understood the fanbase around it since it seems that the design is just so jaged and well, ugly.

The only word I can think of for it.

The original Wolfens were sharp and had a lot of edges and the like, it was a good look for an "anti arwing" but the II's on the other hand looked more like a big gob of spikes and thrusters.

Normally I like spikes and sharp edges on fighter crafts but the execution of the Wolfen II's design went overboard big time.

Another smaller reason I don't like it, is because the Wolfen's design, to me, was beautiful and didn't need improving. [why fix what isn't broken right?]

I think it would have been better if the designers had just added a few small things to the original craft. Not the almost complete redesign they had done.

If you want a reason, then ask XG Fox, he will show you the light!

Well, let's hope comes on in to this topic so that I can better understand what is SO great about these ships.

I've looked at this ship from many angles, thanks to emulator VRML dumping (I think James' avatar might actually be one of my dumps). It isn't a blob with spikes. It looks more like the Wolfen than you think. Well, like a Wolfen on it's side. :x

It's not that bad. Perhaps if it were done in a higher poly model it would look better.

That would make it better.

And is it just me or does the wolfen II look like it can fly foreword or backward?.

It looks like a wolfen except it's bulkier, has bigger wings, and has 2 engines. Plus I agree with master Jal

The idea with the wolfen II may of been to make them look feirce more than sleek and glorious. Plus, the wolfen II was designed to take on the arwing and hopefully have a feild advantage... Andross was probably not looking into making them look nice lol.

^ They say looks is it all, but the heavy beam blasters say otherwise...

I just NOW saw that after the topic came back up to the top... XD

Basically, the Wolfen II was designed to be a massive improvement over the original Wolfen. In a way it was, but the prime reason for the slightly awkward design is that the fuselage now houses a second engine, which greatly boosts the Wolfen II's top speed over the original design. The Wolfen II fires the same type of double lasers as the Wolfen I, and has a much better turning radius than the original.

Granted, it isn't the best looking fighter in the skies, but after comparing the specs, it shows that you don't necessarily have to look good to kick some serious ass.

Ever heard of the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover"?

Well, the Wolfen's beautiful to me too. I love that ship.

But, I can say this:

You fight StarWolf at Fortuna, Bolse Defense Station, and Venom Alternate (via Area 6) in StarFox 64. Now, here's how it works out:

*If you bypassed Fortuna and continued through Bolse Defense Station, you fought StarWolf at Bolse in their original Wolfens.

*If you DIDN'T bypass Fortuna and continued through Bolse Defense Station, if you destroyed StarWolf at Fortuna, then they appear in their new Wolfen IIs at Bolse.

*If you bypassed both Fortuna AND Bolse Defense Station and continued on to Venom Alternate via Area 6 (Venom Air Defense), you never see the original Wolfen during the game. You go straight to fighting against the Wolfen IIs.

*Heh, if you bypassed Fortuna AND Bolse Defense Station AND Area 6 (Venom Air Defense), you never see ANY Wolfens during the game. Kinda strange how THAT works out... XD

Kinda depends on which path you take if the original Wolfens are "broken" or not.

If you beat Star Wolf at Fortuna and go to Bolse they don't show up at all. If you didn't beat them or went a different way to Bolse they still show up in there original Wolfens.
