Opinions on Mature Subjects

It was brought-up in the image policy thread that there are some members of the community who would like to see a mature audience section of the community.

I want to gauge how many of you like the idea.

My ideal mature section would consist of three boards:

1. The Caucus and Pulpit Pub: The place for civilized discussion of politics, philosophy, and religion

2. Anything Goes: General discussion with an expected level of matuity.

3. NSFW: A place where things can be posted that may not be appropriate for work or school: IE: nude art, violent art or fanfics, etc.

I actually like the idea, as it could open us up to new members, but there are also some drawbacks:

The pub would require active moderation.

Anything Goes could get redundant.

NSFW would likely end up having porn posted in it. Not sure if I want to see it go that far.

The section would require membership in the mature users group. To qualify, a user would have to post their DOB in their profile, and be at least 18. This may only apply to NSFW, not sure.

I am pretty sure the majority opinion will be NO! but I want to ask anyway.

Also, what if a seperate SMF install were created for ClassicStarFox that had these sections?

Also, any suggestions are welcome.

I'd say yes. I think it would certainly be a nice addition to the forum, and would also give us who'd actually like to discuss things such as politics and religion some room to do so outside PM's.

As far as the problems with this go, it would require active moderation, as yourself stated.

While I can't guarantee I'd be able to be as active as I've become while I'm in the military after the summer, I'd like to fling out that if there arises a need for another moderator, I could be interested in applying for the position.

Also another thing, maybe you already considered this, but Quake Live forums has it where any images uploaded have to be approved first before it can be viewed by members...

That would require a mod to prevent use of the IMG bbcode, and another mod to allow moderator approval for attachments.

No. No no no no no no! This is a forum about Star Fox. There are THOUSANDS of 'mature' forums out there for people to discuss such topics on. Instead of focusing on becoming like other forums, we should be making ourselves more unique.

Yes, this community is unique, adding other forums for mature content isn't going to change that...

I vote yes for the first 2 (with the second one being carefully watched and with certain limits), however, I don't like the idea of having a NSFW place. If we are going to bring up mature level on art, let it stay on an artistic level, no porn, or anything too suggestive.

I would focus my staff powers on those 2 new subforums as well as suggest a new overall mod for them.

Numbers 1,2, & 3 all sound good to me, just as long as they are strictly moderated and policed. 

EDIT!: On second thought, I really wouldn't want to have suggestion number 1, I've seen too many flame wars get started over these topics  :oops:

Question: Would the politics one be opened to anyone not just 18+Up people, I'm 13 and trying to learn more about politics .

And for the other forums I have no say for 5 years until I'm 18 .

It will probably be age restricted, I wouldn't want to risk with the forum rules, angry parents or anything like that, like DZ pointed once.

For the record, outright porn would not be allowed in the NSFW board.

I'm not sure if I want to age restrict the politics board.

All of these boards would be opt-in. You have to ask to be added to the mature group. If you don't want to see them, you won't, just like those of you who are not staff members can't see the staff board.
