X-Gamer
Today, I was quietly reading a book downstairs on my couch. I was enjoying this lovely time of relaxation when suddenly, I heard a buzzing sound. It took me less than 2 seconds to figure out what it was. This annoying buzz was created by a bee. It also was coming from my fireplace, across from my couch. You see, every spring/summer, at least 5 bees "drop in" from the chimney of my house and land inside my fireplace. Now my fireplace is quite old and has a few lots of cracks that make it easy for the bee to escape out of the fireplace and enter my basement. The problem is...I DUNNO HOW TO GET RID OF IT. I know I sound like a scaredy-cat when I say this but, I'm scared of bees. Ever since last summer when a bee stung me TWICE on my bike - while riding it at a very fast speed - and I fell. It left quite a few deeeep scars on my body. Anyway, the problem is that it is currently right now dominating my basement. No one in my family either has the ability or the guts to capture or kill that bee. So, that is why I am asking anyone here if they know how I can lure/kill/trap the bee so it can get the heck out of my basement.I would very much appreciate help. Everything is stashed downstairs in my basement including my video games, main computer, DS, pictures of Krystal book, and more I want to use today. Again, I appreciate any help or ideas that can take this bee out.
CrypticQuery
I'd call an exterminator, A VERY BRAVE EXTERMINATOR. (Don't feel bad, I'm scared sh*tless of bees too ). Seriously though, don't try going down there, the total number of bees is unknown. Also, get that chimney/fireplace fixed up if you can.

Sarita
Spray extremely highly concentrated Raid on it. That's what my dad does and it kills them instantly. And cheaper than an exterminator. And best of all, no angry bees.
Asper Sarnoff
I just resort to a curled up newspaper. It happens quite often during the summer that bees find their way into my room, due to my mother actually having taken up honey-production, and the three large beehives are only a couple of hundred metres away. But, since you're not feeling for going into close combat with them, I'm afraid I don't know what advice to give you. Matt Macdowel
x gamer just try to avoid them best as you can or close up the fire place so they can't really get in.
Star Fox Runner
I'd go with what Sissy said, get a can of Raid, and go downstairs and spray the bees, it's amazing how fast that stuff kills bees. If it's an infestation, you'll have to call an exterminator, it wouldn't be safe to go at it by yourself. (I'm afraid of bees too, you're not alone.)Speaking of bees, there are these really weird looking bees that burrow out a massive hive in the dirt under my deck every year, and no matter how many times we get rid of them, they always come back. They're bees, but they are completely black, we don't know what they are. And the scary thing is, Raid won't kill them, we spray them until they are soaked with the stuff, and they won't die. ThePointingMan
I dunno how to cancel one, but I know how to prevent one in the first place, if you hang a brown paper lunch bag somewhere on your house er something, the bees may mistake it for a hive. It's worked for us, no bees .

X-Gamer
Thanks guys, for the tips. I don't think I have Bee Killer Raid with me right now. The only Raid I have is Ant killer Raid. Does that work too? If not I'm going to have to tell my family before I go back downstairs: I'll go it alone from here!

Water from your garden hose and various raid products will only piss them off. What I do to get rid of wasp nests I put a Hefty bag over the hive and then wack the nest off with a shovel doping it in the bag along with the wasps inside. Sarita
I only said Raid because what my dad uses is super concentrated. I think he mixes it himself. Store raid and bug killer really does only make them mad, be careful. :)
Chrono Reaper
I only said Raid because what my dad uses is super concentrated. I think he mixes it himself. Store raid and bug killer really does only make them mad, be careful. I have been working at a hardware store for a very longtime and I hardly seen anyone have success repelling bees with insecticides, mainly because there are so many and they are hive minded, kill a few and the whole nest gets aggravated. Hence you have better odds smoking them out. Bee Keepers smoke out their bee farms with carbon dioxide when extracting honey, which changes their behavior and Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that works very fast and kills everything in the hive. if their aren't as many bees and its just the hive you can do what I did in my previous reply, which is take a bag over the nest and knock it in the bag and tie it up real good. Otherwise if its a big infestation you will have to call in the fire department and they will use a fire hose to douse the bees out with water. X-Gamer
Heh! Thanks Chrono, but it's a minor infestation. All it is is really one or two bees falling from the top of my house's chimney to the bottom - which is my fire place, once every week. Then, they escape out. This leads to me being very scared and turn into wussy mode. But thanks for telling me not to use insecticides. I would've been done for if I did use it and piss them off. Anyway, a bee news update. I just finished going back downstairs equipping plastic bags like chrono reaper said, to trap the bees inside. I also wore a plastic rain coat with the hood on, a cap on top of the hood, and a pair of wooly socks so the bee can't sting my legs. Paranoid, I know. But that's besides the point. The point is that the bee was only heard for less than 30 seconds, then it was no where to be found. What do you do when you can't find a bee that is dominating your basement? DZComposer
If you don't get the queen, the colony will survive. If you don't get the hive structure, a new colony will make use of it.You best solution is to call a beekeeper. Sadly, if they've taken up residence inside part of your building, large holes will need to be cut to remove them, but it is the only way to get rid of them for good. Though this can lead to some delicious honey made right in your building! We had a bee infestation several years ago. The beekeeper removed the hive and they never came back.Don't do it yourself. If they're Africanized bees, you'll be in a world of trouble if you piss them off.

European bee = your standard bee.Africanized bee = More agressive, more attacks, more pain.Special Brazilian Bee = I like these. They are HARMLESS!...Or like 3 species of them, duh. Sabre
Also, bee tip. Smoke makes them mellow and unlikely to attack. Getting tangled in loose clothes makes them mad. Also, if it all goes wrong and swarm chese you, don't rip off your clothes. Leaves you unprotected. Get the ones inside your clothes when you are safe. Also, a bees sting is an attack beacon, be(e) sure to wash that stuff off.Fun fact. You might see bees fully covered in pollen just sitting on the floor. The reason. Pollen is heavy, and they are taking a break.
Sabre
From a site about UK pests. (I'm currently having a minor adult clothes moth issue)BeesThese are not harmful unless provoked, trapped or you are unfortunately in their line of flight.Best not to attempt to remove yourself, contact the experts, details of which can be found in libraries, local authorities etc.*******If you have bees in a chimney, light a fire in the grate and this should remove them safely and harmlessly. Some bumble bees are endangered species. ******** I have been sent the following by Tom Varley- I keep a few bees and I thought you might like to know that The British Beekeepers Association has a list of beekeepers who will collect swarms at http://www.britishbee.org.uk/swarm_collection.php Also, from my own experience, rather small looking bees wandering around inside a house early in the year are nearly always solitary bees. X-Gamer
Alright folks. As I said before, the bee is nowhere to be found. I've come up with 3 theories as of why:1. It is merely sleeping and hiding2. It is dead3. It has gone back the way it has gone in (not so sure on that one.)I have read all your helpful tips (thanks so very much for replying guys!) and I have come up with a few solutions:- Make a fire in my fireplace- Put a brown paper bag on the table next to the fireplace so I can trick the bees into thinking it is a hive.- Become a man and hunt it down myself. (It's just one bee. How harmful can it get? Don't tell me it's harmful or I'll get scared again.)Again, I thank you to those who shared their helpful tips to me. Each one has given me information on how to take it out.Now there is one more problem. I now have a spider infestation in my room, basement, hallway, and family room. I think it is because it is...1. Spring. Spider season is coming back as fast as misquitos are.2. We haven't cleaned the house in a while so...3. Spiders are taking their revenge on me for killing more than 20 a month.Today I haven't been on due to spring cleaning around the house. Wait. G2G. I see another spider I have to kill at the corner of my room. 'Till next time.
