Sableye
It's odd to me that as time progresses, that games tend to be more sucky than the last generation. For Example, compare the SF64 to SFC.See the differences? That's why I am asking you.

Some games get worse, but most get better, and the minimum standard has risen. Personally, I liked assault alot.Designs change, and starfox would be considered a mini game by todays standards, hence all the on foot and objective stuff.EDIT: To clarify, by minimum standard, I mean the typical quality of most games. A good example of what I mean is movie licence games. Back in the day they were unplayable abominations, today they are average game, certainly playable and fun compaired to games of old, but still seen as bad in todays eyes.Even 'popular crap' like Modern Warfare and Halo have themes and mechanics much more balenced and complex then they typical "Jump around and grab coins" of the 2D era. The emotonal impact is greater, with games like MW2 and Mass Effect that have you think about the issues in the game during and after the fact. Us vs. SFC)
Sabre
But you're asking why games are getting worse, and they are not.Why do YOU think games are getting worse? Well, either notalgia in which case it's a bias based on your 'better' time of innocents before you hit puberty and found out you cant get a date, or it's personal taste for retro, in which case there's nothing to discuss, and your statment that games have declined is irrelivent. Asper Sarnoff
Well, I'd say that as a general, games are getting better. There are many old games I like better than the equivelant new ones, but that's solely nostaliga factor. Super Mario 64 vs Super Mario Galaxy being an excellent example. It's the new, innovative thinking that's getting rarer. More games means more will share similarities to each other. The good thing about this however, it that it spawns competition between game developers to put out the best product in their segment, which ultimately benefit us, the players. Big team games, finley balenced, no screen watching, big team based objective game modes, no playing on a screen the size of a postage stamp. It's like saying when we have VR "Games were better when you had to use a controler."

Guest DRL
Well, to me games are improving.Yes, I do like many old games, but that does not means later onesare bad or werse. For a modern example:Lord of The Rings: Battle for Middle Earthand take their I & II versions respectively.Yeah, in the I, you choosed the missionsin-campaing, but in the II, you can makea strategical campaing ("War of the Ring"),and customize it to your liking, choose anyspecial place as your base (I love doing that)...It's like saying when we have VR "Games were better when you had to use a controler."Yeah... I what I mean is that I enjoy both, but I am leaning towards the VR anytime .
