Your take on: Fox McCloud

As something to try and kick of the discussion in this new board, I figured I'll be gradually setting up topics where we can give our opinions on anyone else of the various characters that inhabit the Lylat system.

For now, I've put up this for Fox, the main character after all. More will come later if this catches on.

So, whats your take on Fox McCloud? Do you like/dislike him, and why? What could have been better with him, and other things related to this character.

I like Fox a lot.

He was kinda sucky sounding in SF64 "Th-thay your prayerth, Androth!"

He looked great, in Adventures, but sounded like Michael J. Fox (no pun intended) from BTTF.  :fox: "This is heavy!"

In Assault, he looked okay, and he seemed pretty awesome, but a bit...sterile, and under-dramatized in his behavior/personality....

But all in all, I like him!

I'll let the good General P. speak for me on my perfect envisionment of James McCloud Jr:

I do personally think he's been portrayed as to... bland in most of the games so far. I did like how he was portrayed in Adventures though. He might have sounded and acted a little childish, but I think that was all for the better compared with the zombie of Assault.

He's amazing. He can BELCH ON COMMAND.

What is my take on Fox McCloud, you ask? I just love the guy. :D He is my favorite Nintendo character.

He is just great. He is likable, a tough as nails fighter, a great team leader, and just a joy to play. He has great friends and has great relationships with them (Command excluded). He also gets really cool designs (again minus Command), and perfect voices for each installment (my personal favorite on both counts is Assault).

The only really big thing that I did not like about him was how he was used in Command.

Other than that, Fox just rocks! :D He has more story and character potential to be seen in my opinion. Unlike other Nintendo characters, he ages and matures with his teammates, making his story more interesting.

Had he had more dialogue in 64, he would've been great. What little he does say hints to a smartass and charismatic leader. Too bad he only talks at the start and end of a level.

I know a lot of people on this board who would like to belch on Command.

/play on words

Anyway, I think Fox is a very variable character. Oddly enough, in my least favorite entry in the series (Adventures), I like his personality the most because he's sarcastic, smart, and really together (at least, until the end when he more or less loses his personality).

As said before, in Assault, he's a robot, and in Command he lost all semblance of intelligence, which is too bad.

There isn't much to him in SF64, but there doesn't really have to be because that game wasn't nearly as character-focused as the others were. The action's what mattered there.

He's cool, but I hate how they keep changing fox's face. Did he get plastic surgery that many times?

I wish they would have kept the face like they had in Super Smash Bros. Mellee. Wich yes it was just a rendered SF64 face since Adventures wasn't even made yet.

Fox did look best in Starfox Adventures, but I wish they kept his eyes blue :

I'm sure I'll comment again later when new things come to mind, but right now I'll just say this:  I liked Fox best in Adventures.  How he looked, his personality--it was all great to me.  That's not to say that I don't like the other versions, but the Adventures version was my favorite.

the sudden maturity in Assault was a surprise that i wasn't expecting, (heh look whose talking)

I saw him as my childhood hero, i always used to imagine myself as member when i was kid. But i lost interest in the series around a year or 2 after Assault was released. But after something happened in Febuary, everything just suddenly came back to mind like i just finished adventures all over again.

So he's Number 2 out of my top 5 favorite character's of nintendo. So pretty much gives him a 9.5/10

Heh, I think that's one of the reasons I liked Adventures Fox better.

he is one of my favorite characters, at first i must admit i was not a StarFox fan, but because of Fox i grew more into the games, at times he is silly like when fighting with Tricky, and other times serious like fighting the Aparoids.

Fox was not mature in Assault. He was a piece of cardboard. There's a difference.

Either that or it was a girl that voice acted as him.

An exceptional leader? I think so.

Thing is, I wish he would display more of a palette of emotion. Not alluding to the emo-tastic Command style though. Although some can argue that to withdraw such emotions is a quality that leaders must have in order to successfully lead a team to victory; I'd think it would make a helluva more interesting story if Fox would counter Pigma's lines in SF64. Like pulling a Metroid Other M, I believe.

I want to see ANGER! Not those anti-climatic lines in Assault with the Aparoid Queen.

When I first played Assault I was like, "Really Fox? That's how mad you are? You lightly bang on the arwing's console. Psssh...."

true signs of a leader is to control your emotions, if Fox was to let anger, dispear, and revenge consume him, we would have a Fox version of aniken skywalker on our hands (Seeing Fox as Darth Vader.......xD) anyway, yeah it seems dissapointing to see Fox lightly hitting his Arwing to show anger, but again, he wouldn't have as clear of thinking if Emotion was to get in the way. Kinda why at some point i understand the Spider-man rip off of him sending Kyrstal away in command, one: yeah the whole enemy, and two: if anything happened to the one he loved he knew he would lose it.

Take a glance at the scene when Peppy sacrificed himself to bash through the gate to the Aparoid queen, Fox came so close to losing it, like losing a second father, but he was forced to pull it together to get the mission done, knowing what he was losing.

He is a great leader because of that,

thank you for reading my been-awake-24-hours-still-wired-rant....im here all week xD
