Pay no attention to the art styles - imagine the necklace being there (or not being there) no matter who the artist is or what the style is.

Note that these are not pearls - they look to me more like Buddhist prayer beads.  To me, they make Slippy look like a spiritual person.

OK, now I am definitely confused about Slippy's gender.

..... But seriously, he looks better without it. It's less misleading for sure.

You do realize that Slippy had a deep voice in the SNES days when he had his necklace. :P

Also, the necklace aren't pearls - they look more like Buddhist prayer beads.

I say he should have lots of golden necklaces, tons of them. And a mohawk.

Considering I never even noticed that 'till now, I guess I have no preference.

Weeeeelllll, here's a possibility, both Slippy and Amanda are capable of reproducing asexually. Gender has no role. :P I don't know how they get orange, blue and violet kids from just pink and green. Must be a genetic thing.

To the question at hand, Slippy looks ugly the same with or without the necklace so I chose "I don't care". I think we all can say that his hat is more of his trademark look.

The only game I know of where Slippy had a high-pitched voice, was Star Fox 64.  In Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Star Fox Assault, etc., his voice is recognizably male, and even baritone.  Star Fox 64 was also the first game where his necklace was absent.  It's not a girl's necklace, it's a necklace of prayer beads. XD

Whoops meant to say prayer beads, because typically when I say necklace I think the common "girl-fashion" necklace. Most of the pearl like styles all the beads are the same size. There are some styles that look like prayer beads but they are still kept at a small size. Prayer beads are 5x the size of a common necklace.

Well -I- like his prayer beads Dermot. Hell, Miyamoto thought up Starfox when he was at a Shrine in Japan afterall didn't he? That's probably where it comes from.

But I'm the only one who voted for them. XD

To be REALLY honest...

I did not even notice he

had those beads.

Yeah, feel free to bash

on me now .

I don't really mind any of the "I don't care" votes. :3

No, it is not that 'I do not care'...

I did NOT SEE them.

I have to admit that the SNES

version suits him. Not sure how

he would look like in SF64 had he

used it here.

Phearps they removed

it to contribute to the

'Gender confusion'...

I loved Slippy's necklace of beads. Even moreso when you remember they're full of KNOCKOUT GAS.

Slippy is a hell of a motherhumper.

I was hoping someone would remember this! If you're going to be a dude wearing any sort of beads, they kind of have to be badass, or you just get pegged as a dude wearing a pearl necklace (as this poll kind of proved).

It's only a pearl necklace if they are pearls.  They didn't look like pearls. X3

I actually forgot they were full of knockout gas. O_o I ought to dig up the old Itoh comic and read it again some time.
