Star Fox Runner
Seeing how Steam is on Mac now, I've made the decision to get the Orange Box, particularly Half Life 2, but I have a question. If I were to buy the retail version of the Orange Box, would I be able to run it using the Mac version of Steam? Or am I gonna have to buy it and download it? Because I don't have a credit or debit card.
Scott7
Thats a question i'd like to know myself, but i don't think its worth the risk.Aperrently Gift cards from credit card company's work like actual credit cards. You could just buy $50 dollar gift card, it doesn't really matter wether its visa or american express. I don't have a mac, but I assume you could download the mac version from steam.

Guest DRL
Not always an option, and sometimes quite expencive.*Cought*Piracy*Cought*...Jokes aside, CD/DVD versions are usually easierto carry around. If you buy thorough Steam, you haveto download every time to reinstall it, where CD installsare usually faster.

Mr. Foxer
I'll give a helpful reply. Anyway, you might be able to enter the CD key on the retail version into Steam but I'd say just buy the Steam version. Just go to a drugstore and buy a pre-paid credit card. Sabre
Orange Box off Steam is 20 bucks. Not expensive.Newsflash AMERICA ISNT THE CENTRE OF EARTH!The global polatics of steam I can't really go into and don't really want to anyway, but tricks like price fixing, regional pricing ($20 = £20 to valve sometimes, which is a mark up in most EU countries) censorship and so on. I occationally act as a middle man for a german because he only has an over priced cut to crap version of the games we play.Plus, not everyone has a credit card, paypal ect. Again, this isn't America where everyone get's one at age 12.I'll give a helpful reply. Anyway, you might be able to enter the CD key on the retail version into Steam but I'd say just buy the Steam version. Just go to a drugstore and buy a pre-paid credit card.Yes you definatly can. Most Steam retail games work this way. You put in your key, then you can either install from disk or download from steam. If steam play is to be believed that means he can just buy and DL.Also, from the mouth of valveIf I purchase "The Orange Box" in real life, Can I use the code to download the Mac version?Yes. The code links the software with your Steam account. This means that you can download the game pack onto your PC or Mac.Sourcehttp://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1269939So, from the sounds of things you can buy it retail, but can't install from disk, and thus will have to download each game. They are a few Gb each so make sure you have the connection for it.

Stop being so butthurt and act a little mature. Obviously an American is going to speak from his point of view, as I am a poor man who can't afford to fly to Europe or Asia and monitor the video game buying rituals there, so you'll have to excuse my "ignorance" on such a "subject", because you know, there's more informative ways you can tell people this shit. Go buy a pre-paid card, it's not that difficult. As far as I can tell, where I'm at, you can't just go to the store and buy a prepaid card, you gotta set up an account that you can load the money into, so if I'm gonna do that, I'd rather wait until my bank account is set up and I just use a debit card.
