Sakurai Considered Star Fox BEFORE Kid Icarus!

This piece of news is a little old, but I am not sure how many people have really acknowledged it. Anyway, apparently, Masahiro Sakurai – the man behind Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series – recently had an interview with Techland, and in that interview he was talking about Project Sora’s first game for the Nintendo 3DSKid Icarus: Uprising. Now where is the relation to Star Fox here? I will tell you in a minute.

Before I continue, let me tell you about my personal feelings towards the game: I am seriously looking so forward to it! In fact, it had been confirmed in my mind that this is the game I wanna get when I first get my hands on a Nintendo 3DS! I had decided this from the very moment I saw the teaser video demo at the E3 event this year! Therefore, no matter what I am about to reveal next, I want to let you know that I still consider Kid Icarus: Uprising an awesome game, and that fact that it is coming is going to be amazing, especially since the game revives one of Nintendo’s oldest franchises which has been dormant for almost two decades!

So, continuing on, what did Sakurai say in that interview? Well, the interviewer asked Sakurai a question. The question was if there were other Nintendo characters Sakurai would have loved to work with other than Pit of Kid Icarus, and Sakurai responded he definitely had other characters in mind, and he specifically said it was Star Fox! In fact, Sakurai revealed that the game play concept he based Kid Icarus: Uprising with was formerly meant for a brand new Star Fox game he originally had in mind, but apparently this concept turned out to work a lot better with Kid Icarus than Star Fox, so he went with it!

So, apparently, it turns out we ALMOST had a brand new core Star Fox game, but eh… look how things turned out. Again, I want to say I may have been a little disappointed when I learned this myself, however I have no regrets about getting excited for Kid Icarus: Uprising! So there! What about you? If you are interested in learning more about this fact (and Kid Icarus: Uprising in general), you can find the full interview with Masahiro Sakurai over here.

Now, spill your own thoughts about this situation. :|

I bet if we really knew what happens behind closed doors, we'd find out how many SF concepts were considered before the projects went in a different direction. There are probably several.

I wish he would've let us be the judge of that.

Well at least we still have the remake of SF64. Maybe if they sell enough copies, they'll hurry up and come out with a totally new game.

Because we know what works for the series better than the creators amirite?

Well, honestly, I can't really trust devs or fans with Starfox anymore. You get failure either way.

Besidesm hell yeah Kid Icarus.
