Japanese people have a lot of time on their hands

Steve and I were talking about our longest times on games, and in the end, it came down to JRPGs where we clocked the most time. Which made me curious; what's the longest time you have clocked on a save file? What game was it? Was it all actual play time, or did you accidentally leave the game open all night?

My personal record on a single file is about 80 hours on Final Fantasy 9. All of it actual game time. Under it was my Okage: Shadow King file, which was at 56 hours. I left it paused for like, 30 hours of the total time on accident, though.

The only games I've played that record play-time are console games. Console games take me about 8 hours to clock, which is why I don't buy many console games. I remember Musashi2 took me 32 hours to clock, but that included 15 hours of grinding.

I haven't really given that much thought, once I get some free time on my hands, I'll check through my save files and give you an answer.

318 hours on Final Fantasy X. Not sure how much of that was actual game time, but it was enough to grind max stats for all the bonus bosses.

Pokémon consumed over 1000+ hours of my time. Besides those, the longest amount of time I've spent in a non Pokémon game was the 45 hours and 41 minutes I spent on completing the GBA version of Final Fantasy II (counting the bonus mode).

... I forgot about that game :T I had a file with 106 hours on it, and didn't even think about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if 90 hours of that was on pure grind, seriously that was a really bad RPG. Rikku was actually my Favorite character in the FF series, but unfortunately the game was too dodgy. Not even my friend could beat the last part, and he's an ace at RPGs.

Without a doubt World of Warcraft, but that used to be such a time-sink, so I don't think that counts. Apart from that, either Black Hawk Down or Aliens vs. Predator 2. Don't know the times on them, but I played them religiously for the better part of two years (two years each).

FFX is weird. It's BAD, but not for gameplay reasons. It's plot is kinda strange and oftentimes makes no sense and makes asspulls all over the place, and no overworld or optional towns to visit is </3. That said, it's generally agreed that it's the most fun to PLAY. The battle system is damn nice, offering a lot of variety and strategy with the switch-out system and there's almost no such thing as underleveled as long as you have the right spells and skills (and the only way you wouldn't is if you seriously been negelcting yourself)

That all said, yes, to take down Nemesis like I have at the very end of the monster arena (capture 10 of every monster, then beat the 34 or so bonus bosses it opens to finally have a shot at him) it requires lots and lots of work. First there's the task of unlocking him gone into above, then there's gil farming to bribe enemies and buy empty armors to create ultimate armors. After that there's sphere farming to add nodes to the sphere grid in order to achieve max stats (although you can skip out on magic as it's only needed for one boss) and finally, the EXP to actually get to those nodes. It took a long, long time but I actually enjoyed it for some reason.

Just like ever other JRPG then.

I actually like JRPGs myself. For the game-play AND the odd-ball story line.

A couple of JRPGs do have a good story - several games from the Tales series come to mind - but they also have several that are boring, cliched, or otherwise just pretty bad in my opinion.

As for most time clocked in a game... TF2. Milky and I both have logged countless hours on that game.
