My top favorites are Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Majora's Mask, for different reasons.

The Wind Waker.

The atmosphere is what does it. It creates something unique which no other game has. Ocarina doesn't even come close.

Wind Waker is amazing, absolutely brilliant!

The only Zelda game I played is Link's Awakening, I played it a lot with my cousin.

Ocarina of Time.

Any other answer, besides Link to the Past and the Original, is nil.

No other game can come anywhere CLOSE to these three. They are the Holy Trinity of gaming.

EDIT: I'd just like to add, that this obv. is an opinion post. Not trying to offend, I just got strong opinions on Zelda! k_e_smile.gif

lolno. LttP sits in this awkward spot where its not quite the Nintendo-Hard aimless exploration based adventure the Original was, but it's also not the story-based adventure game Ocarina of Time was. And honestly, its also a good deal boring, being fairly easy (aside from when you first go into the dark world and a few exceptional bosses) and very little direction in the game to motivate you to the next objective other than self interest. That's not saying its bad. Just saying its not enough of what made the other games stand out.

As for the Original and OoT, they have their flaws too. Like I said, the NES game is hard as hell and unforgiving, as well as being 100% directionless. Its good for its time and good as a dungeon crawl adventure game, but it honestly hasn't aged too well. Ocarina of Time is a bit similar. Its almost a bit too linear, and while there are side quests to do, there really isn't a whole lot to SEE in Hyrule or secrets to find. The story telling and characterization was topnotch for its time though on a Nintendo game. Objectively speaking, in terms of graphics and gameplay quality, Majora's Mask one-ups OoT in every department.

A. The original is golden because it is the ORIGINAL. Without the original, there is no OoT, MM, Oracles, etc.

B. OoT is, according to ~95% + of gamers and crtics, the GOAT.

C. Link to the Past is in the same boat as Ocarina of Time, actually.

Not gonna lie, you are the ONLY person who I've ever heard dislike OoT and LttP.

I have yet to beat ALttP because I'm stuck for now, but I disagree that there's not a drive to beat it. For a long time I kept playing it a TON because it was so fun and I wanted to get further.

Just because its the original doesn't mean its not flawed to hell. Ocarina of Time is not a bad game. It is an excellent game, fully deserving of its awards. But it is still flawed. Same for Link to the Past because OoT copied LittP. I do not dislike ANY of these games. I love the entire official Zelda franchise dearly, up there with Metroid and Fire Emblem. I just wholeheartedly refute the claims of OoT/LttP being these perfect heralds of gaming, because they're not. LttP is dull. in between dungeons and sidequests. OoT has very little to see outside of the railroading and Hyrule is exceptionally empty. But these are flaws people ignore because ZOMG BEST GAME EVAR. Majora's Mask took everything OoT did and did it better. Atmosphere, music, storytelling, interactivity, adventure, level design, originality, everything. Wind Waker is the only Zelda to truly instill a sense of adventure, if to a fault. The story was also contrastingly dark and compelling, and is very emotional. Twilight Princess perfected the story telling in 3D Zeldas, at the cost of having little sidequests (though it had more than OoT, they were all linear with the story), as well as the first main character to develop and grow over the course of the game in the form of Midna. Both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess boasted excellently done musical scores that I feel totally outshine any other game in the series's soundtrack. Now of course, these games have their flaws. They're not perfect, and these are of course my opinions, so you may ask, what am I getting at?

I am getting at that OoT and LttP are not perfect, contrary to what many believe. They have their strongpoints. They have their flaws. So do the other games in the series. Am I saying they can't be your favorites? No I'm not. I am saying you can not claim that any title in the series other than them is "nil" in comparison, because they're not. MM, WW, and TP alone all provide a great multitude of things LttP and OoT did NOT provide, and they being imperfect have their own share of flaws as well.

tl;dr OoT and LttP are flawed and other games did stuff better than they did.

It was fun. But it dragged in between dungeons. The overworld was nice to look at, but it was boring. There was no story other than the maidens talking to you at the end of each dungeon, so I had little incentive to save the world. Like I said, its not the dungeon crawl that the original was, but its also not the story-based game that OoT was, making it feel awkward and dull. The dungeons themselves were great though, and when you were actually DOING stuff it was fun, but the down time in between them made Wind Waker look like a Touhou game in comparison.

Majora's Mask is cool and all, but it DOES NOT hold up to OoT like, at all. 4 dungeons, kinda repetitive with the 3 days resetting everything, doesn't really fit into the main narrative etc. And this from someone who LOVES Majora's Mask!

Wind Waker is just bizarre and diverts too far from the Zelda-Style, IMO. It's fun and stuff, but too far out of left-field to really jive with the rest of the series.

And I really haven't played TP much yet, but what I have played has been OK, but not exactly superb.

OoT and LttP are the closest we'll ever get to perfection, as they are nearly there. Most feel that they are, in fact, perfect.

And Lttp has PLENTY of story, it just doesn't jump up and slap ya in tha face! k_e_lol.gif (Dunno why that phrase is so funny to me, probably how it rolls off the tongue, it really isn't meant to offend or anything) You gotta pay attention to the happenings and pick up the clues and really feel the story, you know?.

Basically, you gotta let the game suck you in and you'll never look back! k_e_smile.gif

Son u trollin me. :(

You have utterly missed the point of my post. Of course Majora's Mask has flaws (them being the 4 dungeons and time traveling being a tad awkward). Wind Waker has flaws too, namely the dragging sailing and the goddamn Triforce shard hunting, though I'm not sure what you mean by "left field", because the biggest change it made to the formula was adding a boat and an actual story narrative. Twilight Princess is similar to OoT, you're just letting your nostalgia goggles blind you there.

LttP does not have plenty of story. It has and I count....

-Opening of the game

-After saving a Maiden in the dark world

-Ahganim fight in Hyrule Castle

-Ganon fight at the end of the game

-Occasional moment with Sarashala.

Anything else is mostly null and void, and understandably so: it was adding more story to a model based more off of the NES games. Occasionally an NPC might have something going on (the father of the flute playing boy comes to mind), but for the most part the story is not the focus of the game. I do not need to "pick up the clues". I have beaten LttP countless times and know the whole game by heart, the story is effectively barebones with some postdungeon lore thrown at you to remind you why you're saving the world. It doesn't "suck me in" because there's nothing TO suck me in. Fun dungeons, good game, but very uninviting unless your adventure pants are on and worn high, and when mine are I'd rather play Wind Waker or the original game. Or better yet, Adventure of Link.

So, what is my point then? Not that WW or MM or TP are BETTER than OoT or LttP, but they are EQUALS. All of these games (and the franchise as whole) have their strong points (LttP's level design, OoT's story) AND their weaknesses (LttP's minimalist story, OoT's empty Hyrule). LttP and ooT are not perfect. Never will be perfect. Excellent, yes. perfect, no. Not even close. People have nostalgia blindness and give these games special treatment for reasons I do not even understand. Objectively, Twilight Princess is on par with OoT, but most reviewers called it disappointing or shallow because it wasn't as good as a "classic like OoT", or that it was "trying too hard to be OoT", even though it wasn't, it was its own game and it stands perfectly strong on its own. If you were to take OoT and TP and switch them around, have TP be released in 1998 and OoT in 2006, it would be TP whose names would be sung praises to and OoT that'd be stuck with the infamous 8.8 score.

In other words you can like LttP and OoT all you want but to call them perfect and nitpick the other games flaws while ignoring the previous two games own flaws is shallow, annoying and hypocritical of you, as well as blatant favoritism.

WW is totally different from the rest of the series.

OoT's Hyrule is breathtaking. So much beauty in so few polygons. OoT stands up to today's games in that regard. And the music, Mein Gott, it is just masterpiece after masterpiece.

Honestly, you're the only person I've ever seen who HASN'T been sucked in to LttP. Such an AMAZING game.

I really don't see any flaws in LttP and OoT. They are perfection in gaming form, really.

And I dunno, TP kinda is a letdown in my experience.
