Nope.
This is something I really need to spit out. It's just my opinion and I hope no one gets offended by this. You know what makes me rage? All the people screaming "REMEMBER WHEN YOU CULD WATCCH UTUBE VEEDEOS WITHOUT ADS?!" by copy-pasting the same comment of another person. Fun facts: YouTube is not a new and fresh site anymore, YouTube is now something HUGE, the ads are only on YouTube's partners videos, and "Mini ads" appear only in videos if they have small parts of Copyrighted material. I'll tell you, in my damn honest opinion, these people don't know a shit about how Internet works. Hell, Blip.tv and all of its users freaking live on ads, look at Nostalgia Critic and all the TGWTG staff. Okay, I know, sometimes ads can be annoying or/and uninteresting, but you have to realize that you can upload videos for free on both YouTube and Blip.tv. They're not asking anything to you, and yet they still allow you to upload your videos FOR FREE! NO CASH REQUIRED FOR YOUR NOT COMPRESSED 564 MEGABYTES VIDEO ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU LIKE APPLES... and then they still whine about a 10 seconds ad on YouTube's parterns videos. Maybe they don't realize that their favorite videos are not floating around a free alternative empty universe where all the Internet data is stored. If you still don't get what I'm talking about, I'll make you an example: Look at deviantART. See those ads? Everytime you visit the site, the deviantART staff makes a very very very little bit of money. It will help them to make their free service available, forever, to everyone. Now, try to click on the "X" near the ad. OH, LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN'T CLOSE THAT! WHY? ARE THEY TRYING TO ANNIHILATE YOUR FREEDOM OF FREE FREEDOMY DERP?! The quick answer is: No. The only way to get rid of those ads is to become a Premium member, a.k.a. pay money to have a LOT more powerful service. Now, do you realize why you can turn off the ads? If the answer is no, I'll tell you: because they don't care anymore. Why they don't care? Geez, really? They don't care because you're paying for their new and more powerful service. They don't need you to view the ads on your computer because you gave money to them. So, we can even say that Premium members are actually helping deviantArt to stay online and/or free. On deviantART, in a really similar fashion as YouTube, you can upload your 15 megabytes poorly-drawn MS paint Bitmap pictures for free. Let's cut it short. My point is, why people whine for a small video ad when the same site is giving them the "Internet ultimate video" service? They're just asking you to watch a 10-to-20 seconds ad ( and, on YT, not only it's only on partners videos, but you can even refresh the page untill the ad goes away ), and then you can do whatever you want. There's nothing to complain about!
Robert Monroe
I mostly agree with you. My only beef is when Deviantart puts ads in my DA messages telling me about clothes I don't care about that I get annoyed.
Gene Inari
I know where you're coming from. Paying for servers and bandwidth isn't free or cheap. If something on a site is free, it isn't really free, it's the advertisers or the goodness of someone else paying for you.
Icy
I have all ads blocked so I never have to worry about this. I feel bad sometimes, though. I feel like I should help pay by watching those ads. But…you know.

Nope.
Ads are annoying and unneeded in most situations that have them. Annoying? Yes. Unneeded? Oh God fuck no. You get money if you put Ads on your site, and your site, to allow more space and bandwidth, needs money to pay them. See how this comes in circle? No more space = users cannot upload anything. No more bandwidth = users cannot view nothing from the site 'till next week/month when it recharges.
Deploy
^ I think there should be a limit to the video's length to the ad. I don't want a 30 sec. ad just to watch a 1 min. video.

Refresh the page ( even if it's not a nice gesture ). They disappear most of the times. I think YouTube staff get its money exactly when the ad starts, so you don't even have to sit all the way through it, and the ads pop up only in YouTube partners' videos. The only site that put an ad before every video is Blip.tv, but it's like that because part of their money goes to the users that made the videos. If I'm not going insane, I remember that even YouTube partners get paid A BIT for the ads.
Drasiana
The problem I had with deviantArt's ads is not that they existed, but that for a long time they were giving people malware, which is something they've only recently acknowledged despite it being an on-and-off issue for years. Youtube ads are understandable, especially given copyright. But people have always whined about commercials and they always will, and that's not going to stop, because despite their understandable and necessary function....they are still pretty annoying in almost much every form. Yep, but it's like whining about a game engine that sometimes stops you for 2-3 seconds to load another area. You want your game to load faster? Then don't whine because you play a game that loads textures 1-5 minutes later after you start playing, or sometimes it doesn't even load them correctly ( Unreal Engine 3 and Second Life's engine ). The same thing could be applied to YouTube. You want this freedom, on this huge and popular site, without some ads here and there? Then don't whine when you will start paying for our service, we need funds for space, bandwidth and other stuff. Anyway, the main problem here is not the fact that Ads are annoying. 85,99% of the times, we all agree on that. The main problem here, it's that a lot of people think that webmasters put ads on their site just for fun, or to annoy users. No joke. There are people out there without even the concept idea of why the hell sites have ads.

Drasiana
I really don't think it's worth it getting worked up over some pussies on Youtube getting butthurt because their AMVs won't load faster. Really, whether or not they know the purpose for them, people are still gonna bitch. But bitching isn't going to get anywhere anyway. Oh god I remember when that happened. Almost busted my computer several times. They only just issued a statement saying they "don't allow" those ads and will prevent any they do see. But this is the same site that claimed that mass-exploitation of their security flaws that exposed their own favouritism was just because of "bad passwords", so... Prince Elite
AS you pointed out, Youtube is a big thing, and there are costs, the site has to pay for itself, and advertising is a way to do that. So these whiners can stop whining or they'd have no service at all.
ZM Anonymous
I don't really have a problem with Ads on websites. It's their only lifeline. The only complaint I have with Youtube is its new shitty layout
unoservix
ah, Adblock. have i told you that i love you recently? it's true. i do. i know i'm unappreciative sometimes and i take you for granted, but i really cherish our relationship. i would be more willing to unblock ads if i could be sure they weren't going to download shit into my computer or assault me with sound or video or get in the way of what i'm trying to do. Cobalt
^That, basically. Otherwise, the unobtrusive things like Google's purely link-based ads that are confined exclusively to a little banner or sidebar and don't pop out and make noises and shoot confetti up my nose and so on and so forth would be more than welcome to sit on my window. The ones that ARE guilty of those rather obnoxious actions I mentioned above... well, those are the reason I keep adBlock running.
Sabre
I play games. Whenever I see "ads" I think "Aim Down Sights" But yeah, adblock. The bandwidth excuse doesn't work much with the tech that invloves peer to peer stuff.
DZComposer
Sure, sites have the right to put up ads. But I reserve the right to filter out any damn thing I want to that comes into my network and my computer. Ads are often served from machines not owned by the website they are on, and sometimes said servers are slow. Not to mention the numerous instances of ad servers being compromised and turned into malware-spwers. I love my largely ad-free internet experience. Adblock Plus + NoScript FTW. When I use a public computer to get on the internet, I am like: On the original topic, what annoys me the most with ads are bullshit intrusive redirect ads and when you pay for a premium service and still have ads shoved down your throat. Fox-Shot
I'd understand and agree with ads if they actually sent to a site that doesn't put malware on me. Google Ads still does this a bit. I'd rather see game ads that lead me to Kongregate than game ads that take me to Gamevance, even if Kongregate's were the intrusive "Expand when you don't want to" kind of ads, because the site isn't there to destroy my pc. Give me ads that will actually get me to follow them since they are relevant and good-intentioned, and I'll click 'em.
Wolf O'Donnell
I mostly agree with you, Sergiroth. Some ads are alright, as long as they interest me. Although I really hate the intrusive ones. I use Adblock Plus and the HOSTS file, so I don't see them very often.
