sniper
hey guys, so I got one of the xbox slims in the "buy a laptop over 699 and get an xbox free" deal. I took the old 60gb hard drive out of the original 360 and put it into the new slim and started it up. When I try to connect to the internet, it says I have a moderate NAT setting. I know you have to forward ports to get around this so here's what I've done: Actiontec M1000 Modem Netgear N600 Dual-Band Wifi Router ROUTER CHANGES DHCP Address Reservation: my xbox's IP Ports opened on router for my xbox's IP: 3074 TCP/UDP 88 UDP 80 TCP 53 TCP/UDP 1863 TCP/UDP In WAN settings, Default DMZ Server set to my xbox's IP In WAN settings, NAT set to open UPNP turned on MODEM CHANGES All of the previous ports opened on the router for my xbox's IP are now opened on my modem for my router's IP At this point, I'm at my wit's end... My old xbox 360 worked just fine with the DHCP address reservation and the ports opened and UPNP on. I can't figure out what the heck is going on. You guys have any suggestions? Edit: I'm getting an error status report of W: 0000-0021 X: 0000-F001 Y:20A8-4860 Z:8007-2746
Sabre
2 tips 1- DMZ your xbox, even if it's only temporery. I've seen alot of games and machines report a strict or closed NAT, only for that to not be the case. DMZ it and see if it still gives an error 2- Check, double check, and triple check your ports and make sure they are going to your Xbox. Time and time again I've heard of some XBLive issue where the person said it wasn't the ports, and it turned out it was the wrong ports, or it was forwarded to the wrong machine, ect. sniper
well I already have it set as the default DMZ server but I'll hafta double check the ports again... My buddy has a slim who's mac address starts as 00 but mine starts with 7C. all the other xbox's I've seen have a 00 starting the mac address so I dunno whats up with that. Other than double checking my ports again (for probably the 5th time haha) I have no idea what it could be.
StarFoxfan-FUR_ever
The other alternative to fix this issue is to buy an ethernet cable and hook it up directly from your Xbox to your modem. It should instantly recongnize the connection and automatically sign you into Live unless there is a server error within the Live service.
sniper
well I would do that but I'd hafta have like a 50 foot (at least) ethernet cable Maybe I'll see if I can put the modem and router in the basement... I'd really rather get it working wifi though. I have no Idea what happened during the switch between the old 360 and the new slim... I might switch back to the old 360 haha

Guest
do you have a usb modem and an ethernet cable? you need those too if not then i think there is a way you can do it without the usb modem. but you need the ethernet cable for it to work.here is the vid for the usb modem:
sniper
the problem with that is that it's not wifi. I'm looking for a way to fix wifi since I can't run any cords that are 50 ft long (my xbox is in the basement and my modem is upstairs)

LoneWolf
[PSfanboy] Another alternative fix to this is buy a PS3. [/PSfanboy] Problem, Micro$oft?

DZComposer
Do NOT turn UPNP on on your router unless you want some malware to infect it. There are a couple of DNS-poisoning worms going around to routers via UPNP. Basically, they will redirect banking sites and other ID theft goldmines to phishing sites. You're much safer configuring the router manually. Also, make sure you understand what a DMZ is. Your XBox is naked on the internet without protection. Proper port-forwarding should solve the issue, provided there is not something wrong with your Xbox's network stack. You did mention a HDD swap, which could be culprit. I doubt a HDD swap would do it. As far as Xbox is concerned, it's just a really big memory card. DMZ should be used to identify where the problem is. It's not an ideal long term sollution, but worth it to see if your xbox is muddled or simply lying.
sniper
thanks for the info on UPnP DZ. I'll turn it off. I do know the risks of DMZ, but it was the only thing I hadn't tried so I wanted to see if it would work. The funny thing was that I switched back to my old xbox and it works perfectly without any port forwarding :-/
