Drasiana
...why the English version of Assault decided to omit the facial expressions present in the Japanese version? No really I know the video says "Krystal" differences but you can clearly see the differences in the other characters too. I don't know if this has been brought up yet but I am honestly curious. Why would they remove the facial expressions in the translation? They don't even blink anymore. These scenes would have played out so much better if everyone hadn't been so creepily stonefaced. Wes
Damn. Krystal sounds hot speaking in Japanese.
Dublinthefox
This is a question even I'm still trying to figure out. I've seen games that are mouthed Japanese and dubbed English but why didn't they just do that? Damn. Krystal sounds hot speaking in Japanese. Damn straight. :8):
Guest Mr. Nintendo
Beats the hell out of me. I guess Nintendo is following Capcom's example. (Have bad lip-synching or have facial-less characters.)
DZComposer
Namco did this. It's called they wanted to fix the lip-sync, but they killed the expressions in the process. My guess is they wrote a script of some kind that re-programmed the lip-sync. That way they could do a batch process instead of taking all of the man-hours to do it manually. Drasiana
And they couldn't in any way re-add the facial expressions...? You know, to make moments like 0:17 of this video less hilariously wooden? Sigh. OH YOU, NAMCO.
Thu'um
ah it would have been nice but all i did was press A any way...
Drasiana
That doesn't shock me Also lol @ the English version going out of their way to make Krystal look lamer. Character-based bitterness or misogyny? YOU DECIDE
Rin
While it was to fix the lip syncing, it's still quite annoying that the facial expressions were axed as a result. It would have made the scenes a lot more believable had the facial expressions somehow survived.
Drasiana
I don't see why they couldn't have re-added them. Time/money I guess, but I would have much preferred the lip sync be a little off and have actual character expression than what we got. I mean, these characters talk with muzzles, not articulated people-lips, so it's not like what they did re-sync was horribly accurate anyway. Yarah
That doesn't shock me Also lol @ the English version going out of their way to make Krystal look lamer. Character-based bitterness or misogyny? YOU DECIDE I think it has something to do with the popularity of the characters. Slippy is more liked by the Japanese gamers, and Krystal more by the western gamers. If Slippy would have almost get hit in the English version, more people would have cheered than Krystal getting almost hit. So I would think they wanted you to care atleast a bit about the character getting shot at.
Harlow
Top rated comment on the vid doesn't surpise me: "is it me, or is krystal's boobs bigger in the japanese version?" On general media, everyone knows that the US are way more strict and have the compulsive habit of thinking anything's an insult.
Drasiana
...what here is insulting, exactly? I think it has something to do with the popularity of the characters. Slippy is more liked by the Japanese gamers, and Krystal more by the western gamers. If Slippy would have almost get hit in the English version, more people would have cheered than Krystal getting almost hit. So I would think they wanted you to care atleast a bit about the character getting shot at. It's actually probably due to American media sexism that glorifies the "women in peril" trope. Not saying Japan isn't sexist, mind you, but it's pretty undeniable what they were going for when you compare it to the trope in every other thing ever. Harlow
I'm not saying there IS somehting insulting, it's just that the American media tends to tone down various aspects from foreign media. And I agree with you and with Yarah on the shooting scene.

Harlow
Oooh, yeah. Yeah the political correctness has tried so hard not to offend people that it's roundabout become offensive. On a random note. If I was a midget, I'd think the "little person" tag would be as bad as "retard". IDK, "little person" sounds kinda stupid.
Drasiana
It sounds really condescending, IMO. I'm not even totally sure why "midget" is suddenly seen as offensive. It's like people who think "homosexual" is less offensive than "gay" for whatever reason. But this is getting a bit off-topic xD;
Fira-Astrali
To tell you the honest truth, i don't really see a whole lot of difference :S The only time I could tell them apart was during the bit where Fox got all embarassed after krystal said "a mission together at last"
Drasiana
The video says "Krystal facial expressions" but I found the most notable expression changes were in the other characters. It took me a couple times to pick up on that because I was staring at Krystal the entire time. Also, blinking.
Fira-Astrali
i did notice the blinking, maybe i just need to watch it agian. But if you need to watch it 4 times before you notice, is it really that big of a deal?
Drasiana
I don't think it's that bad in these scenes, necessarily, but there are some scenes where facial expressions would have reaaaaally helped. Even the one where Krystal is all *sadface* after Fox tells her she can't come does wonders for the previously-lacking emotional tone. Even Fox's faces in some of them (they omit most of them in the side-by-sides if Krystal isn't the focus; someone needs to do these comparisons with everyone) make him seem far less wooden. Remember the scene where they find out Corneria was invaded? And Fox is all "nooooo" while maintaining a perfectly neutral :I -face? And how rediculous it came off? Yeah.
