I am looking forward to both of those. That's actually it. I haven't been interested in most of these new games in a long time. They just seem to rub together these days.

Skyrim, even if I'm a bit disappointed about the stuff that got removed while it could have been simply fixed.

What did they remove?

For me. RAGE!

Guest Mr. Nintendo

There's already a topic for this although I can't give the link to it because my 3DS doesn't like copying/pasting.

Anyhoo, to keep on topic: Counter-Strike 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Devil's Third.

Athletics, Acrobatics, probably Spellmaking, goddamn Attributes ( people say they were "useless", always taking Oblivion as an example, which is technically a logical fallacy simply because the series didn't start with Oblivion ), Hand-to-Hand, Mysticism ( which got merged ), Mercantile ( which got merged too ), Pickpocketing and Lockpicking are separate skills now, Greaves and Cuirass are merged ( you cannot wear Leather Greaves and a shirt for example, which was pretty cool looking, especially for Ranger-type characters ), and the list goes on. Also, some of the features I didn't really like from Oblivion are back.

I think I'm probably still buying the game though. The rest is... nice.

EDIT: I don't really hate Oblivion by the way.

Erm, did you see any interviews about oblivion and skyrim? If not, you can find them easy enough, so I'll give you quick explaination.

It's easy to add extra skills, but the problem is they become meaningless and generally interfear with the gameplay. For example, attributes are boiled down to 3 and many of the skills mixed together because either people didn't use them, they didn't make sence, or they just got in the way. By doing this they remove the need to people to run around in circles for a level, then use only repair for a level ect. Alot of people (myself included) never finished the main quest/had to play on easy because they would play the game for 10 hours, relise they picked the wrong skills, or hadn't grown the character right by not focusing on specific stats a level, and end up with a bad character forcing a restart. It also meant even those who played 'right' only saw a little of the contect.

In short, it allows you to play the game as an adventure, rather than you vs maths.

Ha ha ha. I post three-four times at day on Beth's forum.

Meaningless? So, becoming faster, jumping higher, dodging when blocking and all that stuff is meaningless? You have a reeeally strange concept of "meaningless". And no, attributes aren't boiled down to 3. What you have there it's just your classic Health, Magicka and Stamina. And please explain, how Mysticism, Hand-to-Hand, Acrobatics and Athletics don't make sense to you. I seriously want to understand how the hell your mind works.

Also, attributes were a pain in the ass only in Oblivion, and why? Because everything around you was levelling up way too fast for your character to catch up if you didn't get at least a x3 or x4 for two attributes. ( EDIT: I forgot to mention that Attributes's effectiveness was reduced in Oblivion )

Also, how the hell skills "get in the way"? Seriously. OH WAIT! You mean "my minor skills are too crappy I have hand to hand 5 and I can't throw a decent punch bo hoo hoo". That's only your fault for not choosing your skills by putting at least a bit of thought.

Well, duh. What you are basically saying is "I take skills at random untill I get the right combination because I don't like wasting my time to make a decent character by choosing his/her skills wisely. I'm also too lazy to make a test character.". It's not even worth replying.

It also meant even those who played 'right' only saw a little of the contect.

I don't know, I play TES in the 'right way', but I've seen a lot of the content actually.

In short, it allows you to play the game as an adventure, rather than you vs maths.

Funny. It's the game engine the one making the math, not you. I don't know what's so hard to understand about "if my attributes/skills had a higher number, I'd probably have more chances to win".

You know what's funny? People saying "duduh, iz good vey removed atributs and these skills 'couz math sucks" like you. Oh yeah, because TES is the only RPG series with these kind of things. Games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Arx Fatalis, Arcanum don't have stats for every character. No nope. That's why no one complains about them. Derp herp durrr. :V

What we got here is a case of blind fanboysm, you don't even try to criticize some of the choices Bethesda made because, lulz, Beth are Gods and they can't do wrong.

Have fun with TESVII: A Corridor to Valenwood, when you have 3 skills: Warrior, Mage, Thief; your character is nailed down to the floor and can't jump, you can't swim and you walk in literal corridors fighting Daedra, with Quest Markers telling you which NPC just farted.

Woah dude. Calm down. It's only a game.

I have no interest in starting a flame war, and given all you do is strawman and flame, I'm going to leave most of that post well enough alone. There is one thing you did mention that kind of proves my point of how most of this streamlining is a good thing. In short, the idea that you have to 'test' a character, the idea you would have to know ahead of time what skills are 'good' and the idea you have to play a certain way in a game that meant to be about choice and adventure.

In short, I should be able to say "I want to play an arogonian warrior who can summon demons" and go on an adventure without reading a wiki and testing builds for 8 hours. I don't see the problem in removing that 8 hour "not fun" bit.

I've played Morrowind and Oblivion, and gotta say, I don't see any of that problem. I build characters around how they look/what I plan to do with them. Didn't look up any formulae and what-not. Only problem I had in Oblivion at higher levels was my stealth/unarmed character, but that was because unarmed itself was rather gimped. I had no problem killing the enemies, it just took longer than it should have, but it was still faster than Morrowind's, where you have to punch them until their fatigue bar empties, then you beat their unconscious body to damage their health.

Oblivion was bad enough with removing/merging a lot of the skills and mainstreaming armour (I missed being able to mismatch pauldrons and gloves from Morrowind, which is one of the main reasons I enjoy Morrowind more than Oblivion), but with this, all this merging/removing, and removing the attributes?

I'm probably not getting Skyrim for some time, if at all. I'll just stick to replaying Morrowind, thank you very much.

From an article about it

The skill and attribute system has been rethought to make it more streamlined yet offer much more varied character builds. We’re down from 8 attributes and 21 skills to 3 attributes and 18 skills, which will probably cause gasps of horror in some camps, but actually the aim is to make character builds even more diverse while getting rid of redundant levelling. Acrobatics is gone, for instance – “who makes a character that is like ‘I am someone who doesn’t run?” Each skill unlocks a series of perks, which add multiple new abilities – such as a slow-time mode for arrow shooting. Each perk has certain requirements, not purely having unlocked the one below it. “You see a perk you like and say ‘I’m going to start using my sword more because I want that perk”, says Howard. The attributes, meanwhile, are distilled to Health, Magicka and Stamina. “What we found was those [old] attributes actually did something else. For instance, Intelligence just affected Magicka. They all trickled down to some other stat.” Again- this will cause gasps of horror. Maybe those will be justified, maybe they won’t – we won’t know until we play. Conceptually speaking, however, I dig the idea of your character build now being more about your actions than about strict segmenting into what were in some cases multiple attributes with similar effects. It does mean it’s more a game of actions than of numbers, and that’s always going to get backs up, but in this instance I’m fairly sure they’ve genuinely done it to increase engagement with your character and what he/she/it gets up to than to stoooopidise matters.
