Already knew about:

Did you know that? 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

And I found this today: 7% of Americans don't know the first 9 words of the American anthem, but know the first 7 of the Canadian anthem

According to a British law passed in 1845, attempting to commit suicide was a capital offense. Offenders could be hanged for trying. :troll:

The M16 will do more damage than pretty much any 5.56x45mm NATO rifle out there, due to something in it's design almost guaranteeing bullet cavitation (where the round tumbles inside the body), which lead to the discovery of the effect full sale, and the rendering illegal any weapon designed to cause that effect purposefully (The M16 was excluded from this because it was not designed to do this, but just happened to).

The AN-94, with the right optics, ammunition, and a bit of luck, has an effective range around 750 meters, which is 3/4 the max range of the 7.62x51mm NATO. Quite impressive for a 5.45x39mmR round.

I can do it just fine. No stress or anything.

Stand in a doorway, arms to your side. Now try to push them out into it as if forcing a T with your arms. Step out of the door way and lat your arms hang. They'll gravitate up to the T shape you were trying to force by themselves.

A 10-gallon hat barely holds 6 pints.

There's a likely reason for that.

A theory is that the term "ten gallon" is possibly a corruption of the Spanish term "galón", or galloon, a type of narrow braided trimming around the crown, possibly a style adapted by the vaqueros. In essence, the term 'ten-gallon' did not originally refer to the holding capacity of the hat, but to the width of a Mexican sombrero hatband. When Texas cowboys misunderstood the word "galón" for "gallon", the popular, though incorrect, legend may have been born.

Same with the horse breed Appaloosa. It was originally Palouse horse, then gradually became more and more slurred and mis-said until the name became Appaloosa.

And because I can.

Did you know that a tomato has over 31,000 genes and there is water in space, the water is in a cloud around a huge black hole that is in the process of sucking in matter and spraying out energy (such an active black hole is called a quasar), and the waves of energy the black hole releases make water by literally knocking hydrogen and oxygen atoms together only of course if they collide in the correct orientation and with enough energy.

But we don't know that for sure, do we? That's the problem with etymology--sometimes there isn't enough evidence to prove a theory. Anyway, there must be other theories about the origin of the term "ten-gallon hat"; perhaps you can find some and share them?

Anyway, here's MY interesting fact--one that isn't speculation:

In 1644, the Manchus conquered China. The first thing the new regime did was order every Chinese man to adopt the Manchu hairstyle--with the front of the head shaved, and the remaining hair braided in a queue hairstyle. To remove the braid was considered an act of treason.

Interesting fact, the double handed arpeggio tapping technique used by Eddie Van Halen on the guitar was not actually invented by Eddie who is often credited with being the first to do it... It was invented by the guitarist for Genesis! Eddie just popularized it.
