So the question is...

Battlefield 3 OR Modern Warfare 3

All features and reviews and communities and issues aside. What game are you most likely going to play?

From a personal view, I have always enjoyed the Modern Warfare series and yes, The community can often be frustrating and annoying. The Noob-Tubers can get a bit excessive but then I remember, When the game originally first came out and people didn't realise they could abuse the features like that... It was a very solid and fun game!

I am personally going to be playing both, But my anticipation is greatest for Modern Warfare 3.

What is YOURS?

I've been burned too much by the CoD series in recent times to give it another chance; I've played BFBC2, BF3's beta, and I'm almost certain that I'm going to enjoy BF3.

Unlikely I'll play either, but I love the Battlefield series much more than Cowadoody.

Generic warfare or Battlefield...hmmm.

In all seriousness, if CoD has showed me something is that you don't need to innovate to sell. I'll go for BF3 because it has way more stuff than MW3. MW3 just feels like a revamped MW2.

I think it's obvious what I'm going for. MW3 simply doesn't have anything on BF3; Tanks, Helicopters, Jets, the works. The only reason I would have MW3 is for the co-op part, much like the only reason I have Black Ops anymore is for the zombies.

Which was a revamped MW1, which was actually fresh and original!

BF3, hands down. I never was able to get into that COD nonsense. Battlefield forever.

Team Fortress 2.

Im tired of the same damn crap of just milking the uber realistic shooter, i would rather have fun than go with the rest of the world's flow.

Battlefield 3 hands down. I'm sure you've all seen my rants about Modern Warfare 2. If not, it's that the developers have obviously never seen a gun let alone fired one, and they add in ridiculous kill streaks and perks. Heard the kill streaks are getting the axe for MW3, though, but still. Plus the knife beating any gun up close, so if you're within 20 feet (Due to the CoD HALO lunge with the knife) you knife instead of shoot. Plus the insane amount of lag CoD has, from lack of dedicated servers and due to the amount of graphical shit they throw in, you have to aim to miss usually. Thought it was just a console thing, until I saw a video where a guy got banned from a server on PC because of it. He almost emptied a clip into a guy, and the last few shots went ten feet behind him, and then he got hit, and his body slid ten feet forward, and he kept doing this for everyone on the server, until his ban.

Battlefield has weapons generally realistic, give or take for balance, and in Battlefield 3, you can switch firing modes. You have no idea how big of a deal that is for a lot of weapons, such as the AN-94 which was developed around it's two round burst feature. Also, not every gun is pinpoint accurate across the map, and there's damage drop off with range. Not only do you have to take into account bullet drop (still waiting for a game to do bullet rise), but also certain weapons will shoot left or right (believe the heavy barrel fixes that as you are now firing match grade ammunition with it).

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Call of Duty, I enjoyed 4, I enjoyed World at War, I enjoyed Black Ops, but Modern Failure 2 was so horrible. Not that I was bad at it, either. Max rank in three days, consistently getting games like 40 and 10, but it's still one of the worst games I've ever played. Only game I ever got rid of. MW2 is what I'm talking about, just to be clear.

I'm going to abstain from voting today because I think both will be good for different reasons. Battlefield 3 will hands down have a better online, but I'm not sure if it'll have a deep storyline (correct me if I'm wrong). I really got into the call of duty storylines and I think that, while MW2 was kind of unrealistic and scattered, if MW3 can build a storyline like MW1, It's gonna have a great singleplayer. I think I'll end up playing the MW3 single player most and the Battlefield 3 multiplayer most.

I don't think that's a fair criticism; deep stories in the FPS genre are nearly impossible to come by, and CoD certainly has anything BUT a deep storyline. That said, both will be enjoyable.

fps games don't have a deep storyline? CoD WaW had an excellent storyline. They blended history and historical documentation with made up characters in a way that made (for me) the history come alive. It may not have been as deep as some rpg games, but you can't say it was shallow...

Every CoD game's campaign after CoD4 was shallower and less memorable IMO; sure there were set-pieces, but you don't really walk away with much. It's like an 80s action movie; it was enjoyable while it lasted, but there isn't much to take away from it and only certain moments are memorable rather than the entire experience. At least that's how I view the campaigns.

well I'm not going to argue about it. It's my opinion that for a realistic shooter, CoD overall has interesting storylines (besides MW2). Obviously it's never going to be as deep as, say, Halo (which is as much about the gameplay as the game story), but it's generally fairly solid. I wasn't making a final judgement on the battlefield 3 storyline, I was just saying that as of now they haven't promoted much of the singleplayer (that I've seen) and that I am expecting MW3 to have a better SP.

CoD is not a realistic shooter, fyi. Neither is BF, but it's leaning more towards it.

by realistic I was basically referring to shooter games other than Crysis and Halo type shooters.

Ironically, HALO could be considered as realistic as CoD because plasma kinetic shields were invented, but generate so much heat that they are unusable currently.

But nah, CoD shouldn't be considered realistic.

Let me try explaining this another way. I was grouping shooter games that take place on earth in the current or near previous history that portray 'realistic' war as realistic shooters. I was grouping Halo and Crysis as futuristic shooters and as not realistic because they have aliens, etc.

Ooooh; I was interpreting it to as close to real life while still being fun. In the sense that you're using the term, however, your previous points make more sense. Carry on then! :D

I've been boycotting Activision so I definitely will not be playing MW3, and I was pretty terrible at the Battlefield Beta (like 1 kill in three 25 minute matches bad), So I won't be getting either. I guess it also helps if you're a military/gun nut, which I'm not so...
