Nintendo says it isn't true.

Well it seems this was a lie...

Not a lie, just a slight inaccuracy in terminology. The part about him spending more time on personal projects as well as helping young developers still seems to be true.

It wasn't a lie as it was a misunderstanding. Miyamoto is not retiring from his current roll, and he is certainly not leaving game developing.

Face it, Nintendo is probably spending all of their profit on the Wii to make a robot body to insert his brain into. He will be making games.....Forever!

LOL! Love that movie!

I heard about this, I think Miyamoto will be making games for a LONG time before he retires.

What's this nonsense about Miyamoto not making a lot of money? He has a high-ranking management position, and, according to Nintendo's last annual report, has a seat on NCL's Board of Directors, and has since 2002 :/

Also, looking at this report tells me that Nintendo is not in bad shape. Over $900,000,000 in profit in FY 2010, though FY2008 was around $2.8 Billion.

The ratios are good, too.

Their current ratio is about 4.4. The line for "good" is 1. Basically, it means Nintendo can effectively turn its assets into cash if need be.

Debt-to-Equity is about 1.5, which means that they are somewhat financed by debt rather than equity. Microsoft's D/E is less than 1, while Sony's is 1.8.

Their profit margin dropped by almost 50%, likely due to R&D.
