0 Flare Posted November 3, 2014 Report Share Posted November 3, 2014 Ohohohoho, I have much experience in this area. I spent a longass time fixing my PS3's overheating problems. First, just try blowing some air through it. If that doesn't work, take it apart moderately and clean it. If THAT doesn't work, completely take it apart (even down to the fan) and clean EVERYTHING. If even that doesn't work, then change the thermal paste, and buy a new fan if you want to be extra sure. I only had to replace the Thermal Paste on mine, didn't have to get the new fan. 0 Flare Posted November 4, 2014 Report Share Posted November 4, 2014 Look up a guide on how to take it apart. All you really need is a few different sized Phillips Screwdrivers. Clean it with Q-Tips and Rubbing Alcohol, or a very soft cloth doused in Alcohol for the bigger surfaces. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Use a dry cloth or dusting brush to remove any dust that didn't come off.I would be very hesitant to use liquids. Isopropyl (in concentrations sold to the general public) is conductive and may cause a short if it isn't dried-off completely before power is returned to the unit. You need a torx screwdriver to get the top cover off. I recommend you go to your local walmart and look in the hardware department for Ultrasteel 44bit Precision Screwdriver bits set. To open it up follow my instructions carefully. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO OPEN IT. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CLEAN IT. Also, I trusted my brother (who is the Tech Prince of the family) to fix it. And what did he do? NOTHING! Look for tiny holes with little metal things inside. These little metal things should be circular and have a little notch in them. These are called screws and you need a fancy tool called a screwdriver.to take these out as they're holding the PS3 together. Stick the screwdriver so that it meets one of the screws, and twist it counterclockwise until it's fully removed. After you've done this for each screw, remove the top plate to expose the innards of the PS3, and then you should be able to just blow canned air through it. 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Don't be like this person from the comments of the phat ps3 disassembly guide I posted above: i have a SERIOUS PROBLEM. i put my ribbon cable from my bluray drive into my ps3 while it was on and i heard a pop. the drive was no loner able to recieve power and i saw someone else had the same problem but on a differnt ps3. they said it was the ic chip on the daughter board and i dont even know where that is.... im only 16 and i plan on being an electronic engineer can anyone please help me because im a SEMI-noob future genius noob now. Because where you're operating it can also cause it to overheat due to a number of things, such as improper air flow or heat not being able to disperse properly. It's about 10-20 centimeters away from the VCR and around 5-ish centimeters from the thngamadoowackers. It is sitting on carpet, UPRIGHT. It's probably half a meter away from the wall.
