Corneria, City or Planet?

Given we don't have an 'Earth City' and there are certain limits on what you can things (see moon crater nameing rules for example) I was wondering wether Corneria is classed as a city, planet, or is the only city on the planet?

Also, if there was an 'Earth City', where would it be? My vote is for England or Germany.

Corneria City is probably named after the planet in a way that would not happen on Earth. Planet Corneria is ostensibly unified under a single government when it is taken into consideration that the Cornerian Defence Fleet serves the entire planet and most of the Lylat System, so it would be fitting that a major focal point of Cornerian culture and politics is named thus. If Command is to be believed, Corneria City is not the only major urban area on the planet; it is likely one of the most developed planets in the Lylat System.

As for an "Earth City", the most obvious nation-state candidates are America (United Nations), Britain (London as a major financial centre of the world), Germany (European Union), or Holland (International Court of Justice).

Interesting. Wonder why there are no other governments? Maybe they formed like the UN or EU at first?

Given how often it's leveled, the Corneria defence force needs a majour overhaul. : )

Corneria is the capital city. There are areas of Corneria that are specifically not Corneria City.

Corneria City, Corneria is just like Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Kansas City, Kansas; or New York City, New York.  Also kind of like Indianapolis, Indiana.

Still, it's the same naming scheme, just on different scales.

Corneria City, I imagine, is like Mexico City for the exact reasons given by Rapidfire. Couldn't have put it better myself really.

As to the history of Corneria, I imagine it was divided by warring nation states for a long time. If you think racism is a problem for humans, imagine the conflict that would arise from different species inhabiting the same planet! Naturally, however, such conflicts do appear to have been resolved by the time period the games are set in, and we have no reason to believe that all the nation states of Corneria (if they still exist in any form) are not unified under a single world government. Any possible nation states may have autonomy with regard to domestic affairs, but as far as global and foreign policy are concerned, I imagine the world government takes charge.

Based on in-game text (in the loading screen briefing for the orbital gate mission in Assault), I think the various planets of the Lylat System (except perhaps Venom) are united in an interplanetary federation. I imagine Corneria City on the planet of the same name is the capital of this federation.

Corneria City is the capital of Cornerian Government and it is an island-city on the planet Corneria. The entire planet is not a city a la Coruscant in Star Wars. The city occupies a large island. This is extensively backed-up by in-game and documentation canon.

It is probable that Corneria City is named after the Cornerian People or the Cornerian "Country"  as opposed to the planet, but there is no canon to back up that hypothesis.

Remember, Federalism among the planets is slightly hinted in the Canon. The entire Lylat System appears to be inhabited in some form. When you look at it that way, yes, it does work on a planetary scale to name a city that way.

There is in fact a city called Earth City. It's located in my state, Missouri. Look it up on Google maps.
