evilwaffles
For the love of god do not flame people for their reasons. I have been wondering lately, "What is it that makes Krystal so appealing to people?" she has a large fan base, possibly one of the largest of Star Fox. So this makes me ask this, why do you like Krystal, any reason from personality to appearance. "What is it about me?" I begun liking Krystal after I played Adventures for a few times and I liked her personality but it was her tail and her fur color that sealed the deal for me, they are both unique. Mr. Krystal
I wrote about this on two occasions. http://krystalarchive.com/articles/whyilikekrystal/ http://krystalarchive.com/articles/zentendokrystalfeatures/

Sabre
She's great. No need for more then that. One thing I also like beyond Krystal herself (it affects Mira Nova too) is that she is not a 'token hot chick' to lure teeage boys into the game. Kursed
She's a girl (Honestly starfox the team needs more females) she kicks butt. she's got cool powers as well as a cool staff. She's got a kind personality around her friends. She can take care of herself she's not some helpless girl. She's blue (Honestly one of my Favorite colors something I seem to have in common with Mr.K) and the white and blue fur really go together well (as a side note my favorite colors are Blue,Purple,White)
Zwolf
She can take care of herself she's not some helpless girl. Yeah, she was sure taking care of herself in that crystal on Sauria... Anyway, I like her 'cause she's got blue fur and a British accent. Nuff said. :x

Samantha Weltzin
A few of the reasons have been said here, like her color and British accent. The main thing that draws me to her is a naïve belief that she will finally fill her potential in one of these games. She has a -lot- of potential that no one is drawing out yet. Oh, and she's hot too. There. I said it. :P

Guest Julius Quasar
Well... I'm an anthrophile, my favorite anthropomorphic furry characters are Foxes/Vixens... I love Star Fox I love Krystal's unique looks, her personality, the British accent adds a major touch of class... I also love how Krystal herself is so unique in every way, she's a real diamond in the rough...
Guest Chiro-Chan
I think she's a really interesting character, and they could do so much more with her than they are now, and take her out of the 'eyecandy' position. She's also the one character who I can relate to the most, as most of my friends are guys, and I'm kind of the 'girl' in the group. Krystal also kind of has this 'mystical warrior woman' feel to her, that they REALLY should bring out in her personality, which is what they did in SF:AD, and all of the other games kind of ignored that, unfortunately. = Oh, and she has a cool staff to hit things with. Everybody likes to hit things with cool looking sticks, right? =D *SHOT*
Zwolf
Oh. I'm with you there, Julius. If I had to pick between two similar games, but one's main character was an anthro fox, and the other was just human, I'm going for the fox every time. [T]ake her out of the 'eyecandy' position. WHAT?! Blasphemy! Burn this Chiro witch! Two/three of her outfits are eye-candy. I say keep it!

Zwolf
I think chiro ment take her out of the Crap art section. Crap? Kursed, a LOT of female characters get... "that" kind of art. Eye-candy and... "that" stuff, are two completely different things.
Guest Chiro-Chan
WHAT?! Blasphemy! Burn this Chiro witch! Two/three of her outfits are eye-candy. I saw keep it! Personally, I think they detract from the character, and basically are just to grab the attention of horny teenage boys. = Krystal doesn't seem the type to go around in skin-tight outfits with the chest open, and I'd imagine she'd wear something more conservative than that. Sauria? Well, she's an arctic fox, and Sauria's got a tropical climate. That, and it seems more like a traditional outfit rather than an eyecandy one, though I could see why someone would assume that it's for eyecandy. Granted, there are women out in the Amazon who go topless and they're not doing it to be 'hot'. It's just how they dress, and it's accepted in their culture. This could also be because I'm a girl though, and because I don't like to see women's boobs/butts hanging out of their clothing. =P Also, @ Kursed: Yeah, the crap art sucks, but there's not much that people can do to stop it, unfortunately. =
Samantha Weltzin
WHAT?! Blasphemy! Burn this Chiro witch! Two/three of her outfits are eye-candy. I saw keep it! Denying that Krystal was made largely based to appeal to teenage boys is like denying that StarFox is a video game. I'm with Chiro-chan on this one. Krystal has a lesser version of DoA Syndrome. Zwolf
Lemme give you a new perspective. Since you're a girl, Chiro, this works easier. All right. You say, making Krystal hot and have revealing clothes detracts from her character and appeals to horny teenagers. They don't go into her background and just use her as a damsel-in-distress character. Right? Well, what about all the other MALE characters that are on the Star Fox team? Hmm? I'm pretty sure that there are fan-girls for Falco, MAYBE for Bill, but definitely not for Slippy... They don't go into Falco's history or background. They give Falco the "bad boy" attitude. Couldn't that grab attention of the teenage girls that love that kind of "bad boy"?

Couldn't that grab attention of the teenage girls that love that kind of "bad boy"? In our Western culture (and Japan has been highly influenced by it, by the way), females are far more often judged by their looks than males. How often do you hear people talking about the fashion of the president of the United States compared to the first lady? How about at the Oscars when they talk about fashion: Who's always the subject of scrutiny for how they look? The problem with this is that the emphasis is placed a lot more on looks for women and less on substance. There's a psychoanalytic criticism for movies and literature based on what's called Scopophilia (see second entry in following link), where the woman is seen as an object to be looked upon and the man is the only one with real development. Think Arwen and Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings movies (not the books, where that's not really an item). http://www.answers.com/topic/scopophilia

Actually, I HAVE met Slippy fangirls. xD And yeah, I can understand from that perspective, but it also does relate some to his background. Falco's supposed to be a 'former gang member', and is obviously reflected in his attitude, with the hot-headedness, and the 'bad boy' stuff and whatnot. And hey, if you want Krystal to keep the 'eyecandy' thing going on, then go right ahead, but I was just expressing my opinion. I don't want to turn this thread into a huge flame war, but I just wanted to explain my reasons why.

PKMichael
Hey there, ZWolf. Allow me to give you a new "perspective". You see, there's one glaring hole in your logic that you failed to pick up on. The main difference between most of the male characters and Krystal is that, with the male characters, actual CLOTHING has covered a significant portion of their bodies for each of their entire separate existences, which kind of makes it difficult for people to classify them as fan service like you're suggesting. This is a result of exactly what Samantha talked about previously; women ARE judged more based on their looks rather than on substance, so a character creator may be inclined to develop a female character based on that. Female characters are given that kind of image because it is what is expected by people like you, the target audience. That doesn't make it right. Fanboys and fangirls will completely destroy any character regardless of what type of clothes they wear or what their personality is. However, it's the character developer's job to, y'know, not help that process along as much as they can. Got it?
