DZComposer
Here are the rules for "The Pub."1. Respect people's opinions. No insults. None of this "libertarians are stupid" or "liberals hate America" crap either.2. Leave Godwin at the door. Unnecessary Hitler/Nazi/Holocaust references are to be avoided.3. Any thread that becomes repetitive (same arguments over and over) is considered finished and will be locked.4. Don't go crazy with the image macros, please. We don't need a bunch of "PWND" or "FACEPALM" images.5. Do not proselytize your religion. Telling others that they should believe in your god is not allowed. Don't proselytize atheism either.6. Easy on the stereotypes. 7. Do not discuss abortion. This one is too hot to touch.Suggestions:- Learn the formal and informal logical fallacies. Knowing them makes you a stronger debater. - Learn when to bow out. This will help keep threads from getting repetitive.

Sabre
What about justified insults? eg. "That's a stupid thing to say, here a none exhaustive list why."Also thats a crap name for a pub. It doesn't even have the word 'arms' in the name. :P
Dermot
Try to avoid calling someone stupid and instead say something like "I disagree with that."In my experience at the Salt Lake Tribune comment forums, the topics are a political bloodbath with great extremes. (Including openly-declared neo-nazis.) But things like personal attacks, hate speech, calls to genocide, death threats, etc. are strictly forbidden. Then don't actively police the place though - they depend on users to click "Report Abuse".

DZComposer
As far as cultural stuff, if there is a significant connection to politics, philosophy, or religion in the topic, it goes here. Else, general discussion. What about justified insults? eg. "That's a stupid thing to say, here a none exhaustive list why."Also thats a crap name for a pub. It doesn't even have the word 'arms' in the name. Okay, how about The Caucus and Pulpit in the Arms of Socrates Pub? Or is that worse... Dermot
How about we don't cite political talk radio either? That is honestly one of the most annoying things ever done on the Salt Lake Tribune comment boards. People constantly quoting and parroting Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter, Hannity, BecKKK... The blatant racism, sexism and homophobia are palpable.

Furthermore, I find it interesting how you mainly quote conservative commentators here only.... I know you have liberal views but come on....show some balance instead of this implied right winged anti-bias :/

But the reason I didn't mention left-wing talk radio is because...it practically doesn't exist anymore. It's considered unprofitable these days, and the biggest left-wing talk radio production company recently folded. Political talk radio is predominantly a right-wing venture.
