Managed to read SF SNES ROM info from VL-Tone guides. I need more info (Img attached!)

Hello everybody!

I'm new here but I think you guys might like this.

A few weeks ago I tried to read all the information that was ever posted by VL-Tone about the subject and managed to find a lot... just no all of it.

VL-Tone was the guy that made this http://homepage.mac....jectDecoder.htm

I had to use WayBack Machine to find some stuff and I still have some color/texture and lighting information missing (here is one with the missing palettes that might I need http://web.archive.o...ead.php?id=6876 ).

I've attached what I did reconstruct, it was programmed in c++ and openGL. The model coordenates were obtained using VL-Tone guides, all that is missing there is the correct colors which I have not been able to find the 16 color palette used all over starfox inside the rom, nor have I found the decoded 256 RGB palette used by VL-Tone in the Star Fox Object Decoder. That information seems to be missing.

I'd like to be able to get more info on the subject, specifically find out where in the rom is the 16 color palette mentioned and the correct lighting settings.

Any help would be great and I can asure you this test will end up in the public domain as (as least) a 60fps full HD playable Corneria Stage <--- you should be able to add all the fan music covers you like to this.

Thanks! tongue.gif

I'm inclined to occur with Lord O Donnell on this one; what you've done seems quite technical and, to put it bluntly, pretty darn cool. If I had the slightest idea of what you were attempting to accomplish I think I'd appreciate it more though. :P

Hello there!

Well in summary, I´m trying to read the 3d models and stage information directly from the ROM file made from the SNES cartidge and turn it into a openGL version of the same game. Here is a demo I made for you guys. The airwing's lighting is wrong and the colors were set by me since I haven't been able to find the color palette in the ROM, that is why I am looking for more information about it, it would be even better to be able to contact VL-Tone

Ahh, okay, I see what you're attempting to do now. First off, bravo; you've undertaken quite a challenge I'm sure. It would be quite fun to play the original SNES version with properly mapped mouse controls, and I won't have to break out my SNES whenever I feel the urge. That said, :welcome: to the forums, you can start a thread in this board introducing yourself if you'd like. :-)

xD :-P Thanks crazyfooinc. Will do in a while.

News, someone on another forum directed me to the correct 16 color palettes. :-P

Of course I'm into barrel rolls so I'm doing them right now.

@Lord O Donnell

No problem. I'm curious about the project you mention but I don't really think I'd have much free time soon.

I do have a problem now, I have the palettes but it will me very difficult for me to make the connection without finding VL-Tone.
