Far Cry 3 was a great game for the most part; excellent gameplay with some great ideas sprinkled throughout.  Ubisoft recently announced an expansion entitled "Blood Dragon."  It just so happens to be somewhat of a love-letter to 1980s culture, synthesizer music, etc.  It is coming out on May 1st for Steam, PSN, XBLA, among others shown at the end of the trailer.  The trailer itself is interesting as well; it starts off in-character as a taped-over VHS tape.  NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OWN THE ORIGINAL FARCRY3 IN ORDER TO PLAY BLOOD DRAGON.

The main theme is ridiculously catchy too;

I love how colorful the gameplay seems to be, as well as the fact that the game isn't taking itself seriously and knows its market.  I would love to see more like it.

There's some leaked beta gameplay that looks really fun, even for beta.  There's a button that flips off the enemies with your robo arm.

This is precisely what a company like, say, Activision, would NEVER, EVER approve. It's way too risky, doesn't take itself seriously, and a standalone expansion?? I can just hear someone at one of those companies going "NOOOOO". Standalone expansions are bad, evil, and they don't make as much money!!!

Except.. they do. See, I already know people who are getting Blood Dragon but haven't played the original Far Cry 3, but also want to grab the full game while they're at it.

Boom! Ubisoft knows what they're doing. They've got to be the best publisher around currently.

It looks really fun. I love the 80s craziness of it, and the music is golden. Can't wait to play it.

Neo Cyber punk meets ridiculous 80s? Possibly the greatest 15 bucks I'll ever spend.

IGN just did a video showing off the first fifteen minutes of the game.  It is amazing!  Not to mention they've revealed that it is a standalone product, does not need Far Cry 3 to run, and has nothing to do story-wise with Far Cry 3.

Everyone should buy this game just because you use a D20 to distract people.
