Xbox One-Eighty: Microsoft finds it still needs gamers to sell gaming consoles

You heard it, folks.  Microsoft is going to completely revamp their policies on DRM for the Xbox One.  Here are some of the things they are going to change

  • No more always online requirement
  • The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
  • All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
  • An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
  • All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
  • No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
  • Region locks have been dropped

This may be a reaction to their nearly 99% negative feedback on the console, or it's just the guys at microsoft finally seeing the light.

What do you think?  What will this mean for the PS4?  Are you happy with this decision Microsoft is making?

Personally, I wanted to see the Xbox One fail, but I've never liked the Xbox to begin with.

As if that's going to flood them with money again.

Those settings don't really sound implementable overnight. I recommend waiting to see what's their real agenda.

I'm actually a bit disappointed. I too wanted to see the Xbox: One crash and burn....

PS4 is made for gaming.

Xbox One is made for LoL cats and FaceBook.

Those are definitely welcome changes. My interest has now gone up a bit, but I'm still getting a PS4.

Too little, too late. Sure, the xbone will probably sell like hot cakes the first couple weeks (all the preorders, you know) but after that... Imagine the sound of a person flying through the air and landing head first in a pile of shit. Doesn't help that the damn thing will only work in rich, white countries or something. Fucking idiots, all they care about is the quick buck.

PS4 will outsell the xbone 3:1, mark my words. Holy fuck it's like I'm a console warrior all over again!

Only now I'm stating the plainly obvious!

Hahaha I want to nibble someone's face off

EDIT: As an addendum, I would like to point out that the saga of microsoft since even long before the inception of the Bone has been one of gradual but total invasion of clueless yuppie scum, desperate to suck off investors and turn a quick dime before running over to the next shiny project, leaving whatever's left of the previous project in the ditch as a twitching, mewling heap of shit. Their virtual market domination in the west has given them the arrogance of a fucking pharaoh and they think they'll be able to spin this turd into something people will want to buy. Well fuck that, even housewives know the Bone is something creepy that wants to spy on their kids now. I'm sure the Bone will sell millions, most of them to people who forget their own names after twenty minutes, but I'm suffering under no illusion that this is even remotely similar to what was happening during the showdown between the 360 and the PS3, where Sony were the arrogant fucks making their own beds while Nintendo was busy eating glue or something in the back room and still made fucking bank. Back then, both competitors Still Had Games. Microsoft's E3 lineup this time around is 'Halo tv show, mocap dogs, kallodooty, roman kallodooty, cars go vroom.' I am Laughing. This is actually really funny. I may seem angry about consoles, but trust me, I have nothing invested in either Sony or Microsoft. If anything, I'm a nintendo guy - It's the sheer pig-headed, arrogant cluelessness that sets me off. It's like they handed over the reins to develop a console to fucking Walmart.

This is the first console generation, and I've been around to witness the Snes-Sega clusterfuck, where there is almost unanimous consent that one of the serious competitors for control of the market is in fact complete shit. This circus isn't for the gamers - I mean, the consumer cattle populations - it's for the investors. Investors that don't know very much about games, but thinks all the features on the Bone sounds swell, and who like the idea of DRM, because then everyone will keep buying fresh products, and who believe that kids would legitimately try to download a car. Who cares, they just throw money at the Bone when it kind of twitches semi-sexily. Meanwhile it's a steaming heap of shit to people who actually want to play games and not have to have a fucking procedure to get them to work after buying them.

In regards to my inevitable purchase of a PS4, I must say that the game Knack looks quite interesting. :P

I'm not believing a word of what anyone at Microsoft says about the Xbawks None until I am convinced the real gamers who buy these products can confirm that the Xbox has been revised. It's honestly pathetic that a company can flat out forget what it is trying to sell to the public, A VIDEO GAME SYSTEM....not some kind of marketing tool.

My fear of jumping on the PS4 wagon right now is that Microsoft might legitimately fix the Xbox at some point in time. I'm at that point where I figure there is nothing seperating the two systems other than a few exclusives if this were to occur, even though I'm about 99% sure I get more with a PS+ account (for 10 bucks less) than a Xbox live account. The only thing really making me consider the PS4 more than the Xbox is the fact that Sony never had any plans in the first place for this DRM nonsence or anything that Microsoft planned for their system.

In response to the image crazy posted, who's to say that Microsoft can't just as easily "Flip the switch back on" as easily as they can turn it off? (if it can be "turned off" in the first place...) Microsoft going FULL TROLL anyone?

Don Matrick forgot something crucially important: apologizing to the public. These changes don't erase the fact they behaved like asses. He was also the same man that told off people with the "you don't like it, but the 360 then".

This changes are a product of many things, more likely of a private meeting where he was told "You fuckwit, you either give them what they want or we'll kick your ass out of here with our golf cleats"

Restoring the audience's trust is not an easy task. Surely some fanboys fangasm and reach climax over this, but quite the lot of people decided to change/stay with Sony. Price is one thing (even though 100$ is not much difference), but behind the smile, there still the Micro$oft who told off everyone. Look at Crazy's image and the fact it can go the other way.

Sorry Microsoft - too late. Your representitives' attitudes that went along with the whole fiasco sealed your fate. It's a lot harder to play take backsies with douchey Twitter comments that clearly show you breed a culture that doesn't care about consumers nearly as much as you do their $$$. :P

As someone on facebook said in a screencap I saw:

"Supporting the Xbox One after this is like supporting someone who was about to rape you but stopped only because they got caught in the act."

Meh, even if Microsoft makes these changes on the Xbox One, I still have just about no interest in getting one. I guess mostly because it would still not work out where I live.

I am stuck on satellite internet for the time being so I kinda doubt the whole "An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console" would even work for me. xD

Personally I have favored some of the titles that the PlayStation & Wii have to offer anyway. ;)

Microsoft might have removed their shitty policies, and I applaud them on pulling their heads out of their arses and doing what is best, we must remember that they were still prepared to do it. Even still, I am still getting Wii U and PS4, and increasing my PC library. Xbox as a whole has never had many exclusive games I am interested in, and games I like on it are usually on other platforms that do have exclusives I want.
