G-diffusion

Scourge

Recommended Posts

Okay... so I've got a creative storm brewing again... and it has inevitably fallen back to something starfox related...

With that said, I need to know:

Do we know anything beyond the Greatfox and Arwings making use of G-diffusion as a powerplant/maneuvering system??

The landmaster, and the wolfen in SF64

And while its not a vehicle, the telekinetic amplifier in the snes comics kinda seems to have the same  effects on remote things.

I thought the Wolfen used some "gravity defying wings" or something retarted like that... iunno, it was in the SF-as manual

but what I'm getting at here is: if the G-diffusers are the defining feature of the best damn fighters in the Lylat system, why dont more... correction... why is it that EVERYONE dosent use them?

To which, I have come up with a solution that I shall not be disclosing at this time because spoilers! ^^

Well, my guess would be that its because SF64 was a quick salvaging of the plotline of SF SNES.

In SF SNES it was clearly said that G-Diffusers are a brand new technology unique to the arwing. But in SF64 the G-Diffusers just happen to be there..

Werent the G-difussers also what caused James McCloud to die to/create the awesome black hole?

Pure headcannon here and shouldn't be taken as more than that, but my brain would have it that all ships have at least one G-diffuser  but the super crazy expensive Arwing has a grand total of +/- 4 of those mofos yielding unparalleled performance. Whereas, the Wolfen has only +/- 3 G-diffusers but a total of four gravity blades vs. the Arwing's two gravity blades...

Considering the definition of diffuse one could assume the G(ravity) Diffuser lessens the stress of gravity which a pilot feels. Which in turn should enable them to do more wicked skill shit without hurting themselves.

As for the sci-fi behind what a gravity blade does and its advantages...I am clueless. I if had to BS it...I would say that the G- blades give a craft better maneuverability by manipulating gravity fields enabling sharper, snappier turns.

Regardless of the true definition, I think its common yet expensive tech. As such, advanced ships use more of each type of G tech in different combos of implementation.

I'm not a fan of the idea that then only reason the  G-diffusers aren't more widely used is because of expense

Now... I say "only" in that last sentence for a reason

(Be warned, my own personal over-thought head canon ahead)

Something that I've been thinking about for a while was: Why do Starfox endlessly patrol Lylat?

Sure, to be better prepared for a massive event of some kind but the cost of maintaining a ship of Greatfox's size in inter-planetary space, as well as the fuel, coolant, and food and medical supplies for the crew, would just be too much to logically justify doing it willingly. Why not just park the damn ships in orbit of Corneria, and spend their off-time on the beaches living off their war-money?

So what if they HAD to keep Greatfox and the Arwings out of Cornerian space?

What if the G-diffusers are considered dangerous by the Cornerian governments?

What if they were illegal?

This would mean the team would have to keep, not only Greatfox, but the arwings as well out of Cornerian space, leading them to, in a way, be seen as outlaws.

It would also kind of explain why Pepper was so hesitant to call Starfox: They were an unknown, flying star-fighters that were considered dangerous by his government, pulling in tow with them a massive warship that literally uses said same technology as its fucking powerplant.

To me, this also explains why the Venomian fighters were able to out-maneuver their cornerian counterparts: They all had G-diffusers. Hiring Starfox would've leveled the playing field somewhat, and even turned it onto Corneria's favour, with 2 ace pilots, and a veteran pilot in combat against Venomian craft.

So, I can probably guess what you're thinking: "But how can a device that just reduces G-forces on pilots be considered so dangerous in Cornerian territories?"

To that I say: "What if they didnt just reduce G-forces?"

The Arwings in Starfox assault give us a little better picture of what the G-diffusers do; In that, whenever you break, the G-diffusers light up, seeming to emit some kind of field?

So what is that field?

My theory here, is that it's a cloud of Gravitons maintained in some kind of force field, projected directly behind the fighter, not just preventing it from moving forward, but also preventing it from falling because of how slow the arwing is moving.

Now... If you have a device that can manipulate gravitons, you can also create some pretty dangerous weaponry using the same tech

Packing enough gravitons into a singular point could generate a micro-sized gravity well, which could lead to a pretty sizable explosion if you cram enough matter into one spot (which may also explain the Nova bombs but lets just focus on G-diffusers for now)

Ergo: Due to their potential misuse as a weapon, they've been rendered illegal.

I'm likely over-thinking this, and this is probably one of the most insane starfox-related ideas I've ever had, but it kinda makes sense when you think about it

In my headcanon, the only company that knows how to make them is Space Dynamics, and they patented that shit up, yo. Since the tech was largely funded by the government, SD could only make them for the government, IE the CDF. Venom got their hands on Pigma's Arwing after he betrayed James and Peppy, and by the end of the war had managed to copy it for the Wolfen II, but not to the point of getting a full production. This explains why Star Wolf went back to flying Wolfen Is after the war.

As far as why doesn't every CDF ship use them, I would actually use the expense excuse. Even in the real world the most advanced fighter technologies are not put on every plane in an air force for this reason. They're reserved for elite units who would make the most use of them. I do think the CDF has some units with G-Diffusers but they are not Arwings. Arwing is a test platform for SD's latest fighter technologies.

I think a lot of us forget Venom's big transport technology, the Dimension Transporter. The Gorgon of Area 6, the appearing blocks on Venom I, Andross' brain, and the Stealth Squadrons of Oikonny's fleet in SFAs are all equipped with this. Note that I am only speculating on the Stealth Squadrons based on how they made themselves seemingly appear was similar to the SF64 things which are confirmed to have the device by the SF64 guide.

I sincerely doubt a piece of paper (or hologram as the case may be) will prevent Corneria from arming itself to the teeth to make sure it has a home to go to

and you do raise a good point, but then why would they let a mercenary/commando outfit have access to their best tech, so that when the going got tough, they then had to pay out the nose to have the best at their side

Indeed, that remind me the story of the B-wing bomber from Star Wars, far superior to the old Y-wing of the Rebel Alliance but still heavily used by the rebel, even after the birth of the New Republic, because the B-wing was realy expenssive and quite hard to use, it was reserved for the elite pilot, mostly Mon Calamari and Sullustean (for their superior sensory ability compared to humans, usefull for flying with a B-wing).

So yes i'm agree with DZComposer.

But the question is, what about the Monkey Arrow ?

Dash Bowman is officialy a member of the Cornerian Army in Star Fox Command, so it is unlikely that the Monkey Arrow are the personal fighter of Dash, but probably a elite fighter closer to the Arwing, reserved for the elite pilot, but how many G-diffuser this ship have ? 2 according to is model ?

1: We cant assume command was accurate about anything, because... well its command and therefore terrible

2: Where on Dash's vessel do you see 2 G-diffusers?

The two blue things on either end of the wings seem to be guns

so from what I can tell, the only place there could be the G-diffuser is at the bottom of the craft, opposite the cockpit... which poses another problem: Theres only one

I was refering to this one, and you right, I thought there was another just behind the cockpit, but i was wrong.

So for me, all I really know about G-Diffusers is that they diffuse gravity and the forces upon the pilots of the Arwings. Similar to the case of sawing off the teams legs as we see in the original Star-Fox.

Why doesn't everyone use them? Well, if I could make a logical guess, the basic concept of a G-Diff. is that a shield protects the ship (or maybe just the pilot) from the strain of gravity when hitting mach speeds. That' sounds up-the-ass expensive. Maybe the SF team had a older model that was also cheaper? Or hell maybe someone was able to recreate it or bootleg a version. I dunno.

All you really need to know about the G Diffuser

I also see absolutely no reason for ^this^.

Ehhh, it's sorta technobabbly but there's nothing wrong with figuring out why random dudes have The Magic Ship Part, it can definitely lead to justifying what makes Star Fox special.

I kind of like all these ideas, though the illegal thing kind of pushes the Star Fox team a bit too far into outlaw territory? Even though I actually kind of prefer them there, haha. Maybe--and this is pure "what if" and there's nothing to justify it in the game right now--it'd be cool if the G-Diffusers were remnants of some shut-down project the Cornerians were involved with that were dubiously-legally applied to the Arwings by Beltino or someone who was disgruntled with the project's closure.

Look up Inertial Dampeners

Inertal Dampeners just counteract newtonian physics

G-diffusers appear to do something different

They literally do the exact same thing. Your body moving around being subjected to different Gs on a roller coaster is due to inertia, or Newtons First Law. Your body wants to continue moving in that direction, but the restraints on the roller coaster keep you in place aside from your internals as well as your loose extremities. This applies to fighters too, which is why the G-Diffuser was made in Star Fox. It cancels out the inertia that the pilot experiences. If I didn't know this, I would already have been on academic suspension.

Inertial Dampeners prevent active Newtonian physics on crew in large vessels

G-diffusers reduce G-forces experienced by pilots, and seem to affect gravitons in a way that allows a ship to be more maneuverable

Those sound like 2 separate things to me.

They're pilots that stay outside of lawful locations at nearly all times unless they're going to be offered positions in the cornerian army

I dont see why they wouldnt be outlaws. They play by most of the other rules, which is why Corneria hires them, but they still have the G-diffusers which makes Corneria hesitant to hire them

I understand it quite well. I know how Newtonian physics work better than most people do. How the fuck do you think I've mastered Kerbal Space Program.

Put simply, G-forces are the felt-forces when course is changed and inertia kicks in

Gravitons are the theoretical particle that gives objects attraction

Inertial Dampeners affect the former

G-diffusers affect the latter.

Sorry, but they aren't the same devices.

You would do well to not insult my intelligence again.

Kerbal Space Program is NOT real life! Go take a course in Physics, specifically 231, if you want to learn kinematics. Until then, this aint worth my time.
